The Charlotte Hornets have been in contact with the NBA as they explore options to dispute the Los Angeles Lakers' failed physical assessment of Mark Williams, sources tell ESPN's Shams Charania. The Williams/Dalton Knecht trade was nixed Saturday, and now Hornets weigh avenues to challenge.

Mark Williams moves extremely gingerly and gently. Always has. Despite his height, he has little to no horizontal/lateral ability to take up a lot of space or exert force. That 9’9” standing reach, and soft touch seemed really promising. But he must have Yao Ming feet…

they are wasting time. no way is the league gonna let the trade go thru after the deadline. It makes no sense. Plus it must have been something or the Lakers wouldn't have nixed it. If they could deal with what they found, they would rather take it than having to re-absorb and integrate players they just traded.

It must likely is a waste of time but if Williams is injured, injury-prone, and pissed or at the Hornets for trading him they might as well l see what can be done. It's like taking a shot from half court at the buzzer.

Long term it will be better for Lakers not to do this trade. Knecht can probably be a good third piece on offense.
I'd trade Rui, he is more replaceable for his position. Knecht has catch and shoot and length, perfect for Luka offense.
Trade Rui for a center this offseason.

Whats funny is I dunno if the Mavs are gonna be able to keep Gafford long term when theyre already paying AD and are presumably gonna pay Lively.
Be hilarious if the Lakers ended up trading for him too :lol

This is just the rigging to get the Lakers a center

They've invested too much time and energy into developing Rui, seems like they'd rather keep him.

Gafford is limited though, they can do better. They really should try to get Walker Kessler. Trade that pick if they have to.

Gafford was upset he wasn’t extended by the Mavs at a reasonable price recently, so I wouldn’t be surprised ifdaniel takes his sweet time with his knee, and then leaves this off season, to the Lakers.
Would also be surprised if LA-native Tyson Chandler doesn’t get scooped up by the Lakers when his contract as player development specialist is up. Will feel bad for lively when that happens, as the mavericks teammates and staff he is closest with are the acting family he has right now, since both parents are dead.

Trade Rui for a center this offseason.Keeping Rui, Reaves, and Knecht seems like a smart move in today’s NBA, where shooting and versatility are paramount. They just need a real starter-quality rim protector, to excuse Luka & LeBron’s poor perimeter defense (which is expected given their sizes and weights)

Not a good analogy.
Hornets have a good chance of at least penalizing Lakers for a draft pick compensation here if they can prove that there is no evidence of why a physical would fail and the trade was rescinded in bad faith. Hell Mark Williams is still playing now. Only thing I think of is Lakers backed out after learning of Williams terrible defensive stats and feeling buyers remorse from the overpay. This is a very important case as it will set precedent for how future NBA trades are conducted.

Why does that make it a bad analogy? Very obviously, the Hornets are going for a long shot benefit with no real downside.

Half court buzzer beaters are probably 5% chance or less of happening. This case has greater odds of success. The Lakers did not disclose the exact thing they found either which makes rescinding the trade seem very suspicious.

You track the percentage of successful challenges to rescinded trades?
If the Lakers truly wanted no part of this trade they wouldn't have made it. They have to have seen something bad in the physical. They didn't upset Knecht just for fun.
