That's bad but not Simmons bad... I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and say he thought it would be better if he attacked the basket. Simmons passing up a dunk is still worse... but that is a Simmons kind of play.
Embiid should consider retirement. As I'm sure you know he allegedly needs another knee surgery. And when he gets it he'll be a little more or of shape and still injury-prone. He should consult with a doctor and get focused on post-career longterm quality of life. There will be some fans that never forgive him but they won't be the ones pushing him around in a wheelchair. Rational people will understand.

I'm not sure why he was playing but at least he knew they need to start losing games at a high rate now.

I can’t give embiid the benefit of the doubt. Why? He’s been taking ill advised 3’s for so long. One of the many criticisms outside of his health is the fact he shoot's too many 3’s. “Get down on the block, you’re bigger than everyone else”. Here it is he is wide open for 3. In a spot he generally shoots those ill advised 3’s from aaaaaaaand he doesn’t shoot? He tries to dribble the ball which he isn’t very good at and loses it. Let’s for fun say he doesn’t lose the ball. Tell me the play? Because he dribbled into the defense where Barnes stepped up in position for a charge/alter shot. And you have two defenders collapsing on the sides of you. The corner guy does so where embiid can’t even kick the ball out to the corner. Maybe if he was Jokic as a passer he could? I just don’t see the play if he didn’t lose the ball. Maybe he flops to try and get a foul call and falls to ground?
Just a bad decision by him. When we as sixers fans scream for him to stop shooting the 3. He decides in a moment time expiring down 2 to pass up a wide open 3. And he says he needs surgery. So uh yeah awesome. Not sure why sixers haven’t shut him down.

When his star was the brightest he was the best scorer in the league and best 2 way player in the league. And tho he never managed to catch steph and lebron as the best player in the world, he made one hell of a mark. Even to this day i still see players doing his signature and 1 celebration(double pointing finger guns). Im proud of him. All decade team member, 1st Ballot hall of famer, and one of the best bigs to eva do it.

Joel Embiid is sadly no longer a top 10 player in the world. He had his day in the sun and now its time for the next era

It's always been a mental thing with him. And Ive always believed SOME of the injury stuff has been exaggerated in order to take pressure/expectations off himself.
He shouldn't be playing at this point because hes not mentally checked in, hes not committed, his teammates even called him out on that. But theres so much money to make because fans are extremely reliable consumers of basketball, even when they claim to be upset or disgusted. The NBA doesnt need non-guaranteed contracts to keep players motivated, because they dont need motivated players in order to make money. They could let Embiid put a hammock up on the bench and take a nap in gold and diamond encrusted pajamas during the game and fans will still be around to profit from. The fans are never turning away.

If it's true that he needs surgery after the season he should just do it now so he has more time to recover and get in shape for next year.
I have to wonder why he was playing in the Olympics.

I have to wonder why he was playing in the Olympics.I have a hyper-cynical theory that Philly figured if he had to medically retire it wouldnt be the end of the world.

I’ve been saying he shouldn’t have played in the Olympics and got himself taken care of. I guess it’s a once in a lifetime moment to play for Team USA and go for gold with bron, curry, Durant etc. being as tho 4 years from now none of them will be playing in the Olympics. Sixers dropped the ball with that tho. This is the bed they made.
Before, he's usually bound to the semifinals. But now? Not anymore i guess. :ohwell:

The Olympics didn't mean shit. The issue was he came back early for the playoffs. He came back weeks before the playoffs and was struggling. The Olympics may not have helped but it wasn't the root of the problem.
Morey came out and said his knee will be ok with rest, less than 24 hours later Joel himself says it won't be and probably needs surgery.
If he needed surgery than now is the obvious time to do it. I don't know what they are all thinking because the season has been over for some time. They are going to lose their draft pick most likely now and I think Morey and Nurse are going to be on the hot seat as soon as the city stops celebrating the Eagles win. Bob Myers is after Morey's job and Morey is doing everything possible to give it to him.
In other news, apparently Cooper Flagg wants to return to Duke next year, so that could be a spanner in the works for some teams that will have ramifications league wide.

Maybe he doesnt really need surgery?
Maybe the 'injury' is all in his head? :confusedshrug:

He has had surgery on the same knee twice. I'm not privy to his medical records but I'm not sure what another surgery could do.
It seems like his knee is just degenerative and his best years are well over.

He might. Whats the rush? I dont think he needs the money right away and Im sure he has a hefty insurance policy.
It's gonna be more expectations and pressure when he gets to the pros and less fun. Hes gonna be on some shit team like the Wizards or Hornets or Pelicans. I believe he enrolled at college a year early too so hes gonna be very young. He'll be more NBA ready after a second year and he'll probably enjoy that second year of college more than his rookie pro year anyway.
Im not saying he will but I dont see any reason why he shouldnt. Except that he'll end up in Bryce James draft and lose the #1 spot. But you still get paid a lot to go #2.

Stop the nonsense there is no chance Cooper stays at Duke. Nobody expected to be a high pick stays in school. Zion said he wanted to stay at Duke for another season. Didn't happen.

Zion nor any previous elite college prospect had the opportunity to make that decision in the NIL era.
Im just saying it's not an unreasonable possibility. The only reason to do it traditionally is to guarantee yourself the payday. Cooper's making an estimated four million dollars already this season. He'd make even more next year and could enjoy another year at university competing for an NCAA Championship instead of playing for a joke NBA franchise right away. He has options.

One more year in school means one year longer to sign a big max deal. Until it actually happens I am not buying it.

No doubt.
Im not saying he does stay, just that I wont be surprised if it turns out he's being sincere. He's already a millionaire. His family has means, he doesnt have to support anyone. He can get insured up the ass. If he genuinely wants to stick around in college another year I dont think he'd be "crazy" to do it.

Yeah, I too think it is unlikely but also possible.
I can see a situation where he loses a heatbreaker in the NCAA championship game and wants to come back to win.
Duke would do everything they could for him to return.
