a lot of these wasteful expenditures date back decades, why didn't trump do anything about it in his first administration? it makes him complicit. pretty sure he even signed off on one of those woman initiatives, there's pictures of him in the oval office and everything.

it's a fair question, your post sounds like TCSS (Trump Cawk Sucker Syndrome), you would sooner avoid answering a question and go straight to insults, much like donnie boy.
I want our economy to regain it's supremacy, like in his first term, but this is not 2016 Trump. This is Trump that sold his soul to the highest bidders to destroy it internally for their personal profit. But when we hit a recession, you'll find a way to blame dems.

ummm what? things were on the up and up and the markets, both investment and expenditure seemed to regain a lot of momentum when trump won the election. then he took office and opened his mouth about tariffs and all the momentum went out the window. nice history revisionism. you just proved my last point.
quick summation of trump's first month:
- plane crashed
- china gained AI supremacy
- broken trade agreements with long-time partners
- general uncertainty in the markets
- destruction of 60+ years worth of good foreign policy and the goodwill we gained as a result
- bent the knee to Netanyahu

grammatical error, it should have been in plural form: plane crashes
i also forgot about the two domestic attacks on his watch.
after he ruins the economy, he'll have one hell of a legacy...:ohwell:
what really sucks is this dude basically was inside the 10 yard line with the economy, but he threw an INT. there's an AI boom going on, the tariffs are going to work against that and can potentially hurt us. we are in a special time in history where the government should be doing everything possible to make AI startups and established companies, grow. this is not a race we can afford to lose. now he's going to put tarrifs on the semiconductor industry...:facepalm that will definitely stunt AI growth and development, among many other things since our world depends on silicon wafers. AZ took years to build a TSMC plant and it's nowhere near the capacity of the output that the TSMC foundry in Taiwan can produce.

Wouldn't attempting to bring strong and wholesome values to areas in the middle east be a decent enough investment in theory? 20 million is barely even a fraction of the yearly government budget, much less the budget spanning over 6 years which is what the project time frame was planned at.
If we were to say that the government spends 1 trillion a year (which is very low but using that number for simplicity), this would be like a person who makes $100k giving 30 cents.
It's a complete nothing burger and is worded just to make people upset.

I disagree. The US is $36+ TRILLION in debt - that's over $237k per taxpayer (153.8 million [2022 number]) (and the average taxpayer certainly does not make $100k per year). Why should we spend $20 million dollars (money that we DON'T HAVE that further ADDS to our debt) on anything abroad (except for saving lives) especially something as frivolous as Sesame Street in Iraq.
We should cut all unnecessary spending and work toward reducing this tremendous debt - we need to take care of Americans (and legal residents) before Iraqis (or any others).

85,000 jobs lost so far, estimates of around 200k total when it's all done. The degree of what was "wasteful" or not will be in a grey for most of this. Airport control tower staff is definitely concerning. All the lost environmental jobs will probably have an impact not seen for a while. Perhaps those jobs could be recreated when the next Dem is in office though.
But in the short term? This is going to lead to recession.

I’m in the same boat as you by being alarmed at the rate of spending in general. But again, this is absolute pennies. There are far larger areas of government spending that if even reduced by 1% would have an exponentially greater impact than this. It’s like getting mad at someone for giving a couple of your nickels to a homeless person instead of the four $20 add-ons they didn’t need at the steakhouse.
To me these are frivolous talking points aimed at the anti-woke crowd. Not that one should or shouldn’t be “woke”, not taking a stance there. It’s just inconsequential.

AMERICA FIRST pal. Yeah so what if we hit a recession head on? At least we're not spending millions on Iraqui Sesame Street, instead that money is now going towards the buyouts for all the people DOGE fired. you got a problem with paying more for gas, clothes, houses, cars, raw materials for construction, being c0ck blocked by tariffs if you want to build anything? at least Trump is WINNING! Maybe you and I won't be winning, but Trump will and that's ALL that matters, because America FIRST.

it's insane how people like OP are brainwashed, to the degree that he essentially has political horse blinders on and cannot judge objectively since his principle instinct is to toe the party line and flip off liberals. there are maybe 3-4 posters on this forum who can be objective when it comes to politics.
i voted for trump because i believed he'd slide back into the chair and it would be a continuation of his first term. boy, i was wrong. he's been brainwashed by elon and the other billionaires whispering all sorts of sh1t into his ear. we literally have elon musk with a bunch of ivy league fresh out of college incel morons running around and firing federal employees, poking through sensitive information, etc. this is a train wreck happening in slow motion.

ummm the markets are reactionary...as in they will react to the current news hastily. in one month, he's done A LOT of yapping about tariffs, and you can defend him all you want, but those stocks were not red when he was elected until he began yapping on about tarrifs. he's created so much uncertainty that you cannot (and won't acknowledge) comprehend. no one wants to invest money when tariffs are reigniting inflation.

It's a shame seeing this comment, because despite all the recent news the past couple of weeks regarding USAID. It's true purpose, learned by millions of people, the vast majority just follow regular news and actually think something like this is charity done out of goodness. The fact of the matter is that if USA-ID gave Iraq $20 million dollars for Sesame Street, it's not for the benefit of Iraq, but rather some secret purpose. Part of that money probably going to groups that shouldn't have them. Also, the whole talk of bringing "strong and wholesome values to the Middle East" feels in line with propaganda to make them seem as though they are savages, to have the public more inline when we bomb them.

I disagree with this sentiment that "oh, it's just $x (peanuts) compared with the what we earn, etc." - ALL this adds up. Whether it's $20 million, $2 million or $200k, this is a FRIVILOUS, UNNECESSARY cause. 47% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck and you expect them to spend even nickels on EACH of these ridiculous causes? We should only do foreign aid that saves lives (or affects US national/safety interests).
We are in deep doo-doo financially and ALL rests on our economic strength. We better start looking about all the programs AT HOME (take care of OUR OWN) that are in trouble and stop with this insane spending.

I used to align with Democrats, but around 2021 or so I saw them becoming the party of war and censorship and left.
It's so weird to me seeing Democrats from the 2004-2012 era still being Democrats today. Something like DOGE would have been applauded by all Democrats in 2008, now they are questioning it. Just mindless people who stick to their "team" no matter how different the party becomes. You have former Democrats like RFK Jr and Tulsi now working for a republican president & people like Liz Cheney campaigning for democrats.

the "alleged" 7 billion in savings (and there is nothing empirical yet since they aren't even using forensic accountants and it shows bc they have miscalculated by billions already, apparently they don't know how to count very well), any how, the alledged 7 billion, IF ACCURATE, is only 1.9% of the deficit. sure does add up...especially when we're headed into a recession created by trump. :applause:

maybe, just maybe, focus on slowing down inflation, strengthening trade agreements and expanding economic growth...kind of like he promised he would do. but instead, he's hellbent on getting revenge on people that made fun of him, at the cost of the average american taxpayer. he just can't help himself, he has to open his mouth. just shut the **** up, let the economy get better than do what you have to do after.

In most instances, the POTUS doesn't actually have a strong link to the major happenings of the economy. Bill Clinton didn't cause the .com boom. Obama didn't cause the housing collapse, Trump didn't cause covid, etc.
But in this instance? DOGE combined with strong tariffs? If a recession comes it can be blamed directly to Trump and Musk. They will be at fault.
