The Chinese restaurant I’m having dinner in is playing a 2003 Cavs/Grizzlies game.

There are 4 TVs in here. ESPN on one, ABC News on two of them…and a 03 Cavs game on the 4h. I figured it was nba tv doing a classic game but…no. Nba tv is showing a G league game right now.

It has yet to go to commercial of any kind. It feels like…a YouTube game with commercials cut out.

I sit down to dinner and Desagana Diop, Ricky Davis, and rookie LeBron are out here against Pau, Drew Gooden, and Shane Battier.

I want to ask for an explanation but I suspect I won’t get an answer.

I’ve not left the house all day.

One of my two best friends died a few days ago. He’d recovered enough to wake up and talk to(though he couldn’t respond through the breathing tubes). We thought he’d be home by now. Turns out he didn’t have pneumonia. He had a weird fungus in his lungs that may have come from his vape pen and we went from “He’s gonna be fine” to me being asked to do the eulogy in about 3 days.

Long tragic story short…this is probably the only time I’ll see sunlight today.

And the universe gives me Cavs Grizzlies.

I guess seeing Lebron and Boozer out there is the Universe's reminder that you might think things are set up to be one way for a long time, and just like that the trajectory can change.

He was a Laker fan though primarily a Kobe guy. He was back long enough that I got to show him the Luka trade he was under sedation for. Never got to see them play though. Or maybe he has. I’ve been having a lot of conversations about the unknowable nature of the universe this week. I’ll leave all that out of the eulogy though. For the first time in a very long time I have no idea what to even say. Tongue tied isn’t a feeling I’m used to but here we are. And everyone seems to think I’ll have the words by the time I’ll need them.

Im a pretty good writer when I have to be but I’m one of the great bullshitters of my time. I’m gonna freestyle it off the top when the time comes. I have a basic idea or two about living a life that has people glad you lived and not just sad you’re gone.

I’ll flesh it out on the spot.

I know for a fact he wouldn’t even want a funeral but you can’t tell an 80 year old mother that. We all have to play along. He told us once that when he died we should setup a big glass container in Blue Flame(Atlanta strip club) and he would appear like Zordon

If it were up to me the whole function would be at a club playing his favorite music serving exclusively his favorite drinks and with an assortment of dancers he’d both dated and had flings with.

Mongolian Steak with an appetizer of crab Rangoon. I mysteriously became allergic to shellfish deep into adulthood, which will never stop pissing me off, but I can have crab Rangoon outside higher end Chinese places that use real crab meat. So I always ask. They always think I’m hoping it’s real crab meat but I’m always hoping it isn’t.

I’m mad at myself for not having money in my youth when I could eat whatever I want. By the time I had the money to eat at the best restaurants I had an allergy.
