By which I mean…. Top five dead or alive And that’s just off one LP?

in the fairly likely event you don’t get my reference ….

20 years ago Jadakiss had a verse with that line that has reverberated through the community ever since(Despite Ludacris actually having the best verse on the song for the record).

The number of things me my friends or the general culture have referred to as being top five dead or alive(off one LP) since would blow your mind if it didn’t bore you to tears first. Athletes. Food items. Movies. Musicians. For athletes and musicians, the one LP part tends to be stressed. Like… you have to bring up the fact they have only done whatever it is one time. Maybe they released a great album. Maybe they won one Super Bowl or championship in general. You have to ask if the person making the statement will reiterate. Was the one LP enough?

Oddly Enough Jadakiss himself does not fit the criteria. From the 90s on really the only two people could claim they were top five dead alive after one LP. biggie and Nas.

The only basketball equivalents I can think of? Michael Jordan was definitely top five dead alive off one LP after 91. Wilt was top five dead or alive as a rookie. He was top five dead or alive off like a demo tape.

It happens. But it gets increasingly more difficult as we accumulate more legends with more and more incredible careers or skill sets.

Like I don’t think LeBron in 2012 was top five dead or alive off one LP.

But Jokic? Am I wrong or do people seem so enamored they will put aside The need for multiple LPs and give him that status?

It’s not inconceivable he never wins again. People were acting like his style made them unbeatable for some reason even though he’s won one time in 10 or 11 years or whatever it is. Like everybody else he’s going to mostly get beaten. But if that happens….will you hold his lack of a second against him and leave him out of the top five?

4 more years something like the last 6-7 and he walks…loses this year and the next 4.

You give him top 5?

Youre gonna have to kick someone out who has like…2-11 LPs to do it right?

But…**** it?

**** it.

Right?

not the best example of a live performance because of how hectic the scene was, but the energy is off the charts

That’s a strong set of 18 LPs right there. I suppose the best argument traditionally would be to kick out wilt since people pretty much been do that anyway. Everything he did was such an outlier you just have to not count it to compare anybody. At least if you don’t prioritize winning. Which…to make Jokic top 5 without more rings you kinda can’t.

you’d still have Russell hanging around with 11 LPs, but he’s definitely the best example that people are full of shit when they say winning matters. You have to win a certain way under a certain set of circumstances they personally find acceptable.

Since the release of all those albums he dropped in the last 3 years I am confident to say Nas is the GOAT right now.

You could make an argument for Eminem, maybe, I'm sure many would. But even Eminem would say Nas better than him.

Nas = Bron?

Big Pun would be a good comparison, considering his first album, but he ran into a similar problem as Jokic. The game was too well established with legends by the time he came along. From a straight up rapping/playing point of view? He can go toe to toe with anybody. But it feels like he needs more than one classic. that second album/playoff run let people down a little. Pun more than Joker for the record.
