Honestly a great comparison in my eyes, probably one of the most interesting debates you can have between two players.

I think I'll take Harden here, but both players have had so many embarrassing moments :lol

I can't imagine anyone who would have Westbrook ahead of Harden, or frankly have them even that close. Even if you despise his game and think he's the biggest playoff choker ever, you'd be hard pressed to find 30 players to rank ahead of Harden, while Westbrook would be like top 50. I know all-time lists are subjective, esp after the top 25 or so, but I'd say Harden's a good 15-20 spots ahead of Westbrook.

Harden has far more top level seasons.

Harden was an MVP caliber player from 2017-2021. 6 All NBA first teams to Westbrooks 2.

It's definitely close if we're talking all-time rankings. Their accolades are damn-near identical and they had similar peaks.

Well you could argue that Russ would've had more 2017 type seasons had he left OKC early like Harden did. 2015 kind of proves that.

I've got Hardem. I really think very little of Russ as an all-timer. I'm not sure I would rank Westbrook ahead of guys like Dave Bing and Billy Cunningham,

Overall career I'd say Harden but I think Westbrook's MVP season was better than Hardens

He carried a team to near 50 wins averaging a 30 point triple double whilst playing with literally zero spacing on his team

I'd argue 2017 Westbrook being the best floor raiser ever outside of LeBron

Harden, despite his shortcomings his MVP in 2018 was legit, although you could make a case for LeBron that year.

Westbrook won MVP just because he averaged a triple double, didn't even lead his team to 50 wins and got smoked in the first round, by Harden. LOL @ calling 2017 Westbrook the greatest floor raiser ever behind LeBron.

If he's the biggest playoff choker ever, then he's nowhere near top 30. Not mine, anyway.

Might go for harden in the playoffs. He overcame a 3-1 lead by the clippers in the 2015 wcsf while westbrook did the opposite against the dubs in the 2016 west finals.

After that, i'm guessing the thunder were expected to miss the playoffs on a whole in 2017, when kd left the team for the warriors bt. But westbrook kept them afloat for the season and got a chance to win mvp because of his efforts.

Sometimes expectations do play a role on this stuff. Aside from the usual ones, such as stat lines, impact, voter fatigue, etc.

Harden may be better but there may not be a superstar whose game I hated more. Even Kobe, when he beat you, yeah, he got some whistles that I didn't like but overall I would come away with respect for what he did or there on the court. Harden was just such blatant, awful whistle abuse. It's not how the game should be played. He seemed to just be playing to get a foul called and many of those calls were not fouls or at least not defensive fouls. I wouldn't want to see that style succeed.

I'm not sure you can base a great offense on the crazy Westbrook ball domination but he's playing hard and not just trying to get whistles. So although Harden took his teams further as #1 option I respect what Westbrook was doing more.

Westbrook would still be putting up Triple Doubles if he was given the green light.

As much as I don't like the guy, I would say it's pretty easily Harden. Mind you, it's not like I like Westbrook either.

There's a good reason that super talented OKC team with Durant, Westbrook, Harden, Ibaka, etc never won it all. Except for Ibaka (who doesn't really belong in that group), all of them are flakes to some degree.

Or, it was because they traded Harden for pennies on the dollar after making the Finals with their core at 22-23 years old.

Harden.

But Westbrook is one of my favorite players all time. He has the same intensity, energy, approach as Allen Iverson. Leaves it all on th floor. Doesnt short change the game or his fans.

Why not? Russ was one of the most exciting players in his prime and carried bad teams to a decent record in a very tough Western Conference and when he had more help with KD they made multiple WCFs and the Finals and came really close to beating the 73-win Warriors. Say what you want about him falling short in some big games but he was a floor raiser and had one of the greatest motors in NBA history.

Harden was probably the better player but it’d definitely rather have Russ and put up with the idiotic shit in big moments. He was a good teammate and played his ass off.
