I was thinking about this last night. I mostly think anyone over 40 will always remember Reeves for his role as Neo in The Matrix. It was a ahead-of-its-time film and one of the greatest action sci-fi films of all time. Not to mention we hadn't really seen Reeves in a role up to that point involving martial arts and he kicked it out the park with his performance. This is what I will remember him for.

I tend to think the young generation will know him more for John Wick. This film series made the action sequences of "Gun-Fu" popular and ushered in a new type of action movie genre that was copied (ie: Extraction and Extraction 2).

What popular movie role will you remember him for or will pop culture remember him for? Maybe something I didn't mention?

both are filled with sometimes cheesy and over-the-top action scenes that are built to please the masses. they're made so they can draw in crowds and people pass the time for 2hrs and call it a day. though the matrix does have a philosophical aspect to it, and the general premise is not just more profound, it's interesting to think about well past after the film is over. the only thing people are talking about after watching wick is how nice the mustang was, how ridiculous it is to go on a mass killing spree for a dog and whether you love dogs enough to *theoretically* do the same, or how sad it is to no longer have the late Lance Reddick with us.

and if we really want to argue over this, let's just revert to our ancestral selves and allow hormones to drive this discussion: the matrix featured far hotter characters...trinity, of course...but you know who always gave me a hard boner aside from walk on water's mother? monica bellucci, i would take whatever pill that would result in me motorboating those t1ts

I did not enjoy John Wick at all. To me it's a terrible movie.

So Matrix. Specifically the first one.

Remember, I'm not asking you what you enjoyed watching. I'm asking what role do you think Reeves iconically be known for when his career is done and what do you think pop culture will remember him for?

Basically, what is Keanu Reeves Terminator? Arnold will forever be known for The Terminator no matter what. Harrison Ford will always be known for Indiana Jones first and Han Solo second (I think), even though Star Wars was a bigger franchise.

Why not both? Like both Indiana and Han Solo are iconic roles. Or De Niro in Taxi Driver and Raging Bull are both iconic.

John Wick. I didn’t like the Matrix movies much. Seemed to be very popular to nerds, geeks, loners.

I will associate both equally with him. Probably Wick a little bit more given how young he was in Matrix and that I watched Wick at the time.

I think it did largely fall into that crowd. You can definitely group me into the geek or nerd crowd.

For over a decade, The Matrix Reloaded held the record for being the highest-grossing R-rated film worldwide before Deadpool took it 13 years later. The film sold an estimated 46,695,900 tickets in North America. Following re-releases, the worldwide gross of the film is $741.8 million.

lots of nerds, geeks, and loners out there that went to go see the sequel.

Do people even realize the John Wicks movies are about the Illuminati? Or do they just think the movies are about assassins?

Not directly I think. It was just symbolism.

In terms of modern pop zeitgeist, John Wick but there isn't much to the character in and of himself, it's more the world he inhibits that's the real attraction( and that world has just gotten more ridiculous with each film). They're enjoyable popcorn action flicks.

As far as an enduring film that is and will be looked at as a cult classic, the Matrix( the first film mostly) is along the lines of Terminator 1/2, Alien, Blade Runner etc. And Neo as a character( again, at least in the first movie) was a more interesting protagonist as the audience surrogate into the world it was showing.

The first one not so much.... Part 2, 3, and 4 was pretty much about a global underground society that has their own rules & laws

The first John Wick was pretty much a proof of concept, but they couldn't just give us four movies exactly like that without heavily expanding the lore to show this underworld that operated by its own rules.

That probably read like insults which wasn’t my intention. Just me generalizing from the folks who really loved the Matrix movies.

Don't know. He's had a pretty awesome career all things considered. Matrix, John Wick, Point Break, Speed, Bill and Ted, etc. Not the most talented actor, but he stands out, which is half the battle.

No doubt. A few others The Devil's Advocate... with Al Pacino, Constantine and one of my favorite chick-flicks or rom-coms (not that I watch a ton of those), Sweet November with Charlize Theron. The ending made me cry.
