'23-24: 14-68 (.171)
'24-25: On track to 46+ win season.
That's the same win increase as when Larry Bird joined the Celtics.
Meanwhile teams like Washington, Charlotte, Utah, etc keep toiling at the bottom.
I think no one has surpassed yet what rivers did for boston, leading them to 66 wins in 2008 after winning just 24 in the previous year.
In detroit's case, bickerstaff gets a good credit for that.

They been tanking a lot longer than utah. Eventually you should start winning games. Plus they play in the least. That helps a lot

Coach + free agents + young players developing.
They're getting it done with defense (1.9 rDRtg) more than offense (-0.1 rORtg).
DET has the #1 defense in 2025 - 109.6 DRtg (-4.6 rDRtg) over 33 games. Over this period, they rank 1st in opponent points in the paint per 100 poss, 10th in opponent fastbreak points per 100 poss, 5th in DREB%, 20th in opponent points off turnovers per 100, and 6th in opponent second-chance points per 100.
So, it's a conservative style of defense. Van Gundy/Clifford/Bud/Vogel-esque. They're locking down the paint and rebounding really well. Prioritizing paint defense and defensive rebounds over turnover generation.
That points to a collective defensive effort spearheaded by coach B. Standout defenders are A. Thompson and I. Stewart.
There has been an offensive improvement. I think that's got more to do with improved shooting than anything else.

Wtf?
Had nothing to do with kg and allen. No reason piercevand rivers should have been winning games in a weak conference before that

The biggest reason is Bickerstaff. He's good at getting young players to buy into his system. He did the same thing for the Cavs before Atkinson took over.

Idk if you can put it on one guy. The young players (Cade, Ivey, Duren) have all improved and Malik Beasley was a great pickup for them. Beasley is shooting 42.1% from 3 on 9.3 3PA and has played every game. What a steal for 6 million. Would probably credit their FO the most because they got a decent combination of young players & vets who are still productive.
Wtf?
What? Their 42-win turnaround is still the biggest leap, regardless of whatever expectations they had bt.

Getting an actual competent coach, plus the improvement of Cade Cunningham & other young guys. Also, some veteran free agent signings.

Got the pistons to sign the right players.
& sign the right coach.
Same dude who was actually responsible for the PJ Washington and Daniel Gafford trades, as well as drafting lively.
