We are about to have a ton of players cross the 25,000. Players that good, but nothing "special". Soon 30,000 career points will look crowded.

More wide open game is a big reason why. The BIGGEST reason though is simply MONEY. You got old players making 25-50 million dollars a year. Previous generations had nothing close to that.

lol prev eras had plenty of offense inflated eras, shortendd 3 pt lines, rule changing adjustment scoring breakouts etc.

The money has nothing to do with it either. Doesnt even correlate in the slightest.

Its all about the time people stay in the NBA / play before decline.

I think defense comes back soon. This shit will be looked at like the 60s. I think they need to look at all the b level stars who killed in this era. Just like I think we changed how much a triple double matters.

It was inevitable as more time passes and the players are playing longer. At one point scoring 20,000 was a big deal and I don't recall the last time that got more than a brief mention, if anything at all. DeMar Derozan is gonna have 25,000 points before month's end.

I've got 7 guys that are going to likely hit 30 which isn't great but with load management it's not that bad

Yeah there's quite a few 'he has 20/25k points?' guys. It's not out of the realm that Derozan ends up with 30k if he plays another 3-4 years, stays fairly healthy and can keep his scoring in the 18-21ppg range. You just don't think of guys like that as being 30k scorers but the math will always math.

Mitchell is turning 29 in September so I don't know if he has enough time to get to 30. Tatum is interesting

Tatum is interesting Tatum is only a year older than Doncic while missing less games and having a thousand more points. If neither guy suffered a catastrophic injury he'll hit 30k before Doncic. I'll concede O didn't know Mitchell is as old as he is though.

Yeah...it's possible but I think Luka is going to lap him at some point just because Boston has so many scorers and one ball

Tatum will obviously score at a higher clip over the next 8 years of his career as compared to the first 8. His first two seasons he averaged 14 and 16ppg. He's likely to be a 25-30ppg guy into his mid thirties so really it's about staying healthy, and as of now he's on pace.

Is Boston going to keep him that long though...Boston does have a history of pushing guys out in their mid-thirties.

Pierce - 15
McHale - 14
Russell - 13
Bird - 13
Cousy - 13

I think it's 50/50 with Tatum getting those years

Even when James retired Doncic will be playing with at least one great scorer. LA is trying to win championships. If they don't team Doncic with at least one great player they won't get anything. And they likely need more than just one. Asking Doncic to give 35/10/9 every night will lead to 60 game seasons and loses in the first 2 rounds.

Completely unknowable whether or not Tatum is a Celtic in 8 years but even if he is traded he's still going to be a great player. No one is going to bring Tatum in paying him 70 or 80 mil per year so that he can average 15 points.

Doesn't matter if its as a Celtic or elsewhere. He's gonna be the number one scoring option on at least 25-26 teams. The other 4-5 teams he's either a 2nd option or 1B to guys to Jokic, Giannis, SGA, Luka. So there's no scenario where he's not going to be at least a 25ppg scorer. It's about how many years his plays and his health, not where he plays.

Everyone who's not a Bronie fluffer has been saying that cumulative career points is an interesting stat and a cool milestone, but it doesn't mean anything when it comes to rankings.
