I know NBA teams fire their coaches all the time, even after they've won championships, but the sheer timing of this one is bizarre to me. There's 9 games left in the regular season, they could finish as high as the 4, conceivably even the 3rd seed, and they fire him now?

His track record is solid for the level of talent he's had, 250-214 record, 4 winning seasons in 6 years, a possible 3rd 50 win season this year, one outlier horrible year last year with multiple players out, and he's done this with a star player who constantly misses games due to injury and off the court shenanigans.

Unless there was something internal going on, I genuinely don't understand the rationale for this one.

I saw a weird stat that they hadn’t beat a 500 team in like six weeks other than the mavs who were missing eight players. That said I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a coach fired headed into the playoffs. Like a solid playoff spot? Do they have some really Promising assistant, I don’t know about and need to get a look at him before firing the entire staff this off-season?

Hopefully, the bulls would fire donovan in the off-season and get him as their replacement.

We shouldn't be surprised at this point. What's weird about it is they only have 11 games left until the playoffs.

Should have just fired him last year when they made him ditch his assistants and then picked them for him. assuming the reporting on NBa today was true they not only picked his assistants but also dictated the offense. Just fire him already. Really he might as well have quit.

True, but I also think he got his fair shot. Last season's shortcomings could easily be blamed on Morant's suspension.

On another note, i guess the knicks can get him if they decide to part ways with the stubborn thibs who has issues in minute management.

Unless by fair shot you are referring to the pre-Morant suspension years I don't see how that could be the case. If a coach can't dictate the offense or pick his assistants what is he even doing? Giving speeches? Because the team play is definitely not reflecting his philosophy when he's neutered in this fashion. How much respect could the players for his authority when he doesn't have any? Just fire him already.
