That is freaking wild. NBA introduced the shot clock in 1954, what the hell took college basketball so long?
Hell, women's college had a shot clock since 1970.

The Tar Heels had the famous four corners offense which would just hold the ball for an insufferably long time before trying to score. Phill Ford was a master at running it.
