The gist behind Elon's video, is that to make that cheap pencil it took lots of people and multiple countries who all have those specific materials.

So Trump's incentive behind that tariffs, that we should set up and manufacture all of those things in the US ourselves, isn't a valid or feasible incentive and would result in a more expensive pencil made out of worse materials. Which is worse for the consumer. In order to get us the best pencil at the cheapest price, a free market is required.
