View Full Version : Carrying the "star" category of scoring allows less stars, so GM's can get defenders

This is why weaker defenders like Bird, Curry and Jokic still produced #1 defenses or record-setting defenses... Their ability to carry the scoring load allowed GM's to find cheap defensive help, while players that can't carry the scoring load require GM's to find expensive star help - the need for star help makes it impossible to fill out the roster with good role players, which is the problem with Lebron's teams.
This is why individual defense matters LITTLE when comparing 2 players if 1 guy can carry the scoring load... Carrying the scoring load has a bigger impact on team defensive capacity than the individual defense of any 1 player.... The only exception are all-time shot-blockers but that's actually more important in prior eras that relied more on 2-pointers and paint buckets.
If you guys ignore this FACT about basketball (italicized above), then you're choosing to wallow in ignorance and inferior understanding of the game..

just because the journalism majors that you watch on TV don't understand the game to this level and don't say any of this stuff - it doesn't mean it isn't true.
lebron is too ball-dominant at high scoring levels, so he can't carry the scoring load vs top teams and needs all-time scoring help, thereby preventing GM's from getting good defensive help.
Accordingly, carrying the scoring load has a bigger impact on team defensive capacity than the individual defense of any 1 player.... Btw, since Lebron can't carry the scoring load on the championship level, so he can't defeat max defensive attention

This makes no sense.
'09 and '10 Cavs were great defensively and he barely had any scoring help around him.
'94 Bulls were pretty damn good on D and Pippen wasn't an elite scorer nor were they even above-average on offense as a team. There's plenty of teams that were great on defense but mediocre on offense.

Bird got almost equal scoring from McHale for one of his rings lol. And outscored in the finals and losing FMVP to Cedric Maxwell in another. What scoring load was he carrying?
