Sad. Moments like these make me think about their final seconds. I think about Kobe Bryant's death imagining him holding his daughter in his arms before impact. I don't know if that happened, but... :(

Kobe Bryant's helicopter crash was nothing at all like that. His helicopter did not experience any mechanical problems at all. His pilot experienced spatial disorientation on a foggy day, and all onboard probably never got the chance to know they were in danger.

The pilot probably thought he was climbing, but in reality he was in a steep, accelerating left turn and descent. They crashed at 190 mph and probably never knew they were about to crash.

I honestly wonder what happened, it looks like the helicopter was breaking apart and falling upside down. As jstern said, it was nothing like Kobe's crash which happened under completely different circumstances, I get the feeling they didn't even know their helicopter was in danger and the crash happened instantly. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the people on this one.

Does anyone remember when a Yankees pitcher crashed his plane in NYC? This kind of reminded me of that.

Cory Lidle. Damn, I just looked that up. Can't believe that happened in 2006.

Pilot was a retired navy seal who just moved to nyc to continue his aviation career. The family photos right before their fatal flight is crazy. What’s more crazy is the full video from a clear angle where you can see the propeller break off and sent the helicopter into a violent spin before it ultimately went down and smacked the water. Curious if they died instantly. Reports were one was two were in critical condition before it was announced all passed.

The company better have up to date maintenance reports on that helicopter becuase that shouldn’t have happened. RIP to all. Sheesh.

If they didn't die instantly they were at very least knocked out right away. Doesn't completely make up for the few seconds leading up to it.

I've never ridden in a helicopter and I never will.

apparently the helicopter hit the water upside down. so i'd guess in all likelihood they snapped their necks and spines killing them instantly. so yeah, a split second of extreme pain then nothing. poor family.

RRR3 and his single mom could only hope for a fate like this.

"Witnesses reported hearing a loud noise reminiscent of something breaking and engine failure. Officials said the helicopter was operated by the tour company New York Helicopters. Michael Roth, the CEO of New York Helicopter Tours, told The Telegraph that the pilot had said he needed fuel before the crash.

How does a expert pilot not know he won't have enough fuel for the entire tour he was taking that family on?

That happens to people in car crashes everyday though and those are probably more brutal than helicopter crash which has so much more force, instant KO.

What does that have to do with anything?

Yeah the helicopter was upside down when it made impact. So probably instantly knocked out. I was just curious how two weren’t dead on the scene (4 were) and died at hospital. Tragic all around. Apparently the place that loans the helicopter wiped away its website. Not sure how true that is. But I’m sure more will be discovered after an investigation.
