If I had to guess they are probably going to try to offset it onto the consumer and start forcing people to get solar and or tesla whole home batteries.

Also Im pretty sure most electrical power in the U.S. is from burning fuel. I think Germany is the only country who has actually been able to use renewables as a major source of power.

2. When they break down they really break down and you have to replace them

Torque is actually more important for that purpose. That's why heavy rigs that have diesels are so common because they provide a lot of pulling grunt in the low range. But with electric power, that torque can come instantly depending on how the throttle is stepped on.

Now I think electic cars make a lot of sense for the majority of American's but they do have issues.

That's why electric motors are the industrial standard for powering/moving big loads. Devices that have to carry huge masses are powered by dieselelectric drive combinations like trains, haul trucks etc.

I personally enjoy driving. I can't say that I've driven an electric car but from what I understand they're far superior in a lot of ways but the joy of it isn't there.

That said, ever since having kids I have two clunky v8 toyotas that are reliable workhorses without any thrill.

Driven 5 class BMW hybrid once with I think 150ish kW electric power and just as much from the combustion engine. It's insane but you have to like it. The first few times hitting the throttle felt absolutely "unnatural". Instant torque. Yet to drive a pure EV, but I guess it's similar but even more insane.

If you're an avid fan of stickshifts, then obviously you won't find any with an ev. Sometimes driving manuals can still give a good kind of fun as long as the roads are free and open. The problem with evs is that they're less efficient in long drives that involve cruising for hours. However, their immediate acceleration is definitely a winner which makes them useful in roaming around cities.
