View Full Version : Curry: Hits the shimmy with the game still in the balance, proceeds to shit the bed

Reminds me of when Embiid hit the shimmy as the Sixers went up 3-2 on the Celtics. As soon as he did that I called it for the Celtics. Guy is not about business.
As soon as Curry hit the feminine front-runner shimmy to take the lead with a minute and a half left... I knew it was a W for the Clips. Thats his calling card. Celebrate too early and then needs Dray or Iggy or Klay or Butler to bail him out. VINTAGE Curry.
It's incredible how SO not about business the guy still is after all these years. Hes so not a killer. He's like the Embiid of guards, altho with a better team and no fake injury.
Lotta cool regular season records, loves to clown it up when things are going smoothly. Total chump in the face of adversity.

I mean... dude balled out in the 4th quarter and OT... he had that one bad turnover with Zubac but produced ridiculous outside that. Game wasn't really on anybody in particular. Kawhi, Butler, Curry, and Harden all played well. There were like 25 lead changes in this game it was insane. It's goofy to just blame it all on Curry.
Guy has 4 rings one with Andrew Wiggins as his 2nd banana. And absolutely went nuts in that one along with averaging superstar production in the other 3. That's embiid?
Nah... :lol That's corny.

First of all I didnt blame it all on him, second he has one FMVP in six appearances.
Read the thread. He did EXACTLY what I said he always does. Like clockwork. Prances around like a mamas boy whenever things are looking good, then absolutely folds in the face of adversity and needs to be bailed out. He is a turnover MACHINE in crunch time and he's like 1/30 on career buzzer beaters. He had multiple big turnovers late this game, as usual, altho to his credit this time none of them was a pointless behind the back out of bounds pass with the finals on the line.
The guy acts too cool for school when he hits a big shot in the middle of the game. Then inevitably goes stumbling to the finish line with his nerves falling apart and still tries to act slick like he doesnt care.
Hes talented as hell but as a competitor hes weak.
Lol the gerbil is probably scared of being in the play-ins again. But he must be thankful now that he has jimmy butler this time around.

He was on fire at that point though. Curry totally took over that 4th quarter. Which is... crunch time. He went nuts so the context of your post is wierd and backwards. It was in the 1st 3 quarters he played poorly.
It's just wierd timing. Curry was lighting it up down the stretch in this game but ended up falling short to other superstars who also played amazing. Harden of all people sealed this game, not Kawhi. He hit B2B dagger 3s in OT and was leading scorer of the game with curry 2nd. James Harden.
Sometimes it goes that way.

You don't get it. Thats fine.
As soon as they took the lead on that shot and he did his little "I got this" shimmy, I knew that was it. Clippers win. Theres still time left in a big game and hes acting like its over. Thats how you lose. Not a killer. Not about business.
Just as I said when Joel Embiid was shimmying as the Sixers put Game 5 on ice to go up 3-2, the series was for the Celtics. Odds were with Philly, how did I know theyd lose? Joel was too quick to celebrate, too much in a hurry to dance, not gritty enough to leg it out to the finish line. I could tell he checked out prematurely.
It is what it is. I tend to notice these granular nuances, not everyone does. Not a big deal but Im just sayin.

Embiid has never made it out of the 2nd round and Curry has 4 rings bro with elite playoff numbers. It's just a goofy take to compare them.
I get you don't like Curry. That's fine. I don't like some players too but you're just off on this one in the context of this game. I don't like Harden. He iced the game. Is what it is.
If Curry played like shit down the stretch of the game I would agree with you when your specific gripe here is "crunchtime" but he had 21 points in the 4Q and OT combined. You're windmilling at empty air here.

If you think Curry is a hard nosed competitor, youre entitled to that opinion.

Weird thread.
Edit: 21 points on 8 shots in 4q and OT lol.

He's out there shimmying with 2 minutes left in a one possession game. That's what I'm pointing out. You can act like it's not a big deal but I knew right then and there they would lose that game, and they did. And that's his MO. I didnt just suddenly make this whole thing up today.
They fell behind with him out there through the first three quarters, then erased the deficit while he was on the bench, then he comes in and hits his shot and is shimmying while the game is still hanging in a precarious balance. Then he fumbles it away down the stretch. And that EXACT sequence is his well documented reputation. It's happened so many times.
Yes he revolutionized the game. Yes he won some titles with stacked rosters against injured opponents. And in '22 he had a good individual run. I'm not taking those things away from him. But the reputation exists for a reason. As a competitor he acts like a front running sissy. He doesnt stay locked in, he's not gritty, not mentally tough. Tonight was just the consummate example. Shimmying like that while the game is still tight, after his teammates pulled them back in it and he hits the go ahead shot. Then proceeds to gag and sputter at the end.
It's classic Curry.

He checked in with 9 mins left in the 4th and scored 15 points in 7 minutes lol.
If a player does that they can shimmy, stand on their head, do whatever the hell they want
if you want to twist the narrative that curry sucks because he was celebrating during an incredible performance and they lost the game because of that and not because draymond misses a wide open layup….okay
It’s just a pretty weird way to look at it.

I'm not saying he sucks.
He's just mentally soft for a superstar in my opinion. Whoopin it up before sealing the deal, often to disastrous effect. It's happened over and over. He celebrates like the game is over and then starts throwing lazy passes until it comes down to a buzzer beater where he's 1/30 in his career. Or in this case just plays the decoy for a Buddy Hield brick.
I dunno. I'm just saying, when games end in exactly that fashion multiple times, it makes the shimmying look a bit ill advised. Just my opinion. Why doesnt he just stay locked in and battle to the end? His premature celebrating just strikes me as... honestly kind of effeminate. It's the kind of thing Ja or Joel would do. Not Giannis or Joker or Kawhi or LeHung.
Curry's out their prancing and shimmying during the most intense part of the game, and then throwing passes out of bounds in a crucial moment the next possession.
What a jester.

This is a 3ball style take. Curry was getting swarmed all game by one of the best defenses in the league and he checks into the game in the 4th and drops 21 on 8 shots.
Takes some real mental gymnastics to take some shots at him after that

Well, we disagree and thats fine. It's like that "what color is the dress" thing. No objective answers, just opinions. I stand by mine.
I do think minus 16 with 8 turnovers more or less balances out the big shots he hit, but it's not even that. A guy can make mistakes. His play wasnt the point of my thread. It's the nonchalant attitude when it matters. Shimmying like the game is over, as if hes taking a bow and collecting his flowers when theres still time to go and hes almost certainly gonna find a way to choke it before the very end. Just such a bad look. And these things matter. It's easier to stay locked in than it is to shimmy and twirl and strut back like youre already the hero and try to go back to being locked in. Acting like hes this suave johnny on the spot while his teammates are still busting their ass trying to close the game and then he comes back down still trying to be cutesy and turning it over. Guy is more concerned with being a hot dog in those spots than with fighting to the finish line.
You dont think thats fraudulent and feminine? Its ok if you dont. Again, it's all just opinions. But to me thats such tacky 'leadership.' Not impressive. His shooting? Yes, impressive. His leadership in big moments? Always been a weakness.

It wouldn’t have been a bad look if draymond hits a wide open layup.
Raw plus minus is always a bit weird. Draymond has a higher season plus minus than Prime lebron has ever gotten. I think austin reeves has a much higher plus minus than lebron this season. I don’t know how you can watch that game and say Curry was a negative.
The curry not being clutch is an insane false narrative with no real basis behind it. It’s an empty talking point. In Curry’s first finals he scored almost 11 points per 4th quarter on insane efficiency. Way better than anything Shaq or MJ did.

I agree plus minus isnt everything, in this case tho it basically confirms what I saw with my eyes. Curry started slow, the game was even at half. The Warriors fall into a hole in the third with Curry on the court. He sits down, the Warriors climb out of the hole. Then he comes back in and hes hitting shots but hes also turning it over so they never get a sustainable lead. They erased the deficit without him, when he came back they just trade scores. So overall they were a lower net rating with him on the court. It's not some weird lineup anomaly that sometimes can produce funky results. He didnt impact the first half, he gave up a lead in the third and then broke even in the fourth due to the turnovers balancing out the threes. Overall you can clearly pinpoint the good and bad and how he ended up -16. It wasnt some amazing performance for the game on the whole. Quiet first half, three pointers AND turnovers in the second. With shit tier hubris down the stretch. Minus 16 overall on the night.
And again my real crux is just the shit tier 'leadership' down the stretch. Thats typical Curry. Hes known for this and it doesnt just come out of thin air. He has positive qualities like shooting, dribbling, endurance. And he has negative qualities. Toughness, grit, focus, humility. Usually when he comes up short it's because of those deficiencies.

Plus minus is garbage and it’s a self fulfilling prophecy when you say “curry is soft because he should have hit 7/8 of his last shots in the 4th instead of 6/8, and because dray can’t make a wide open lay up”
You have taken the narrative too far, you aren’t reading between the lines anymore you are creating things that aren’t there.
