View Full Version : The Rockets are Strong when the Refs are AWOL

Bob Fitzgerald, announcer of Warriors games, had an interesting point on the Rockets. Lately, the refs have been so favorable- that when the Rockets played OKC, Shai shot just 2 free throws despite Rockets physical defense. This is very unlikely with competent officiating.
The refs are allowing the Rockets to play physical defense that other teams would be called for fouls for. Fitz. pointed out that no team can win against the Rockets if the refs refuse to call fouls. He's right.
Van Vleet is an expert at this; getting away with hand-checks (that impede progress) that have been illegal for a long time; realizing modern-day refs are so stupid as to not understand the most basic rules of the game.
And he got away with that on Toronto in the post-season before. Dylan Brooks and Ime Udoka are in the same camp- testing what they can get away with.
Udoka said recently that when the other team complains about fouls; you've won the game. He said they should keep pressing to see what refs will let them get away with.
The low wattage modern refs (low caliber compared to the refs of the 1990's for example) can't be predicted because they are remarkably inconsistent.
So you might actually have a team with van vleet, brooks, and sengun be a dominant team because the refs are letting them mob opposing teams.
The Rockets are good but they're not good enough to justify their dominant record. They'll get to be even more physical in the playoffs.

This is how NBA allowed Minny to beat Nuggets too.

You post this the day after Curry and Butler get 30 free throws?

He's panicking about losing the upcoming series that the Warriors should win.

The thing is playing tough defense is generally h0w most playoff teams start to play, so that comparative advantage kind of dissappears in the playoffs. You think Jimmy Butler and Dray and Podz and Moody GP2 are gonna play soft? We just got a glimpse of the effort they can expend. When I was watching that 1st half yesterday the Dubs defense was super locked in. I'm surprised Memphis came back and made it a game.

Warriors losing to the Rockets would be a legit upset. The Warriors seeding would be much better if they had Butler all year.

They're barely a 50 win team though, I don't think they've been that dominant. Saying that, both them and OKC get away with a lot defensively (Warriors do at times as well). If Rockets were reffed like an average team, they are the second worst team in the West. As it stands, they'll be a tough cookie but I'm still taking the Warriors in 5 if Steph and Jimmy get healthy enough by then.

Ehhhhh. 5 games would really shock me. I definitely have the Warriors to win but Houston plays with such energy and intensity that I fully expect them to win at least 2, particularly at home. If anything I could see the Warriors stealing game one and then almost punting on the second game to conserve energy before going home. Then later in the series and do think that the Rockets athleticism will give them problems.
I've got Warriors in 6 but wouldn't be surprised to see it go 7.

I have to say any statements or feelings from Bobby Fitz do not represent warriors fans as a whole.
He used to be their number one company man back in the day tasked to shilling fake hype for terrible teams and prospects while we were the worst team in the league. He is a clown.

Oh rrr3 wasn’t watching the game and signed in to make emotional posts the day after with no factual base.
I’m so surprised.
