Somehow he is able to still get some impressive chase down blocks, which are very impressive since he's a tank. However, you cannot just use isolated plays to judge someone's athleticism, but you have to average everything out. Look at his block yesterday. The irony is he got blocked twice in a row after his block.

Then you have to look at all the times Lebron is so lazy on defense. So maybe he'll have one impressive play but then 10 other times he'll hide on defense and will move like a snail. There's a reason why Lebron has a negative impact and has a negative plus and minus for a whole year. He makes some impressive, athletic plays once in a while. But for every highlight block, you have gives up 10 times more baskets and cannot move at all while he's trying to defend or conserve his energy.

So his stats on the surface mean nothing when he's statistically a negative, impact player. The plus, negative stats don't lie. The only reason he's still in the top 10 percent for free throws is because of the refs. Lebron had that one impressive chase down block and then got rejected TWICE in a row on the other end. Also one of the reasons he still gets his chase down blocks is because offensive players underestimate him. He moves so slow 95 percent of the time, that 5 pct of the time he catches them by surprise. Overall, he's a negative plus minus player.

His defense is actually one of his better strengths now, it's his offense which has cratered completely. He can't get to the rim anymore unless on fastbreaks. Post and 3s only, but he still tries to create too much from the perimeter.

The Lakers defense only looks good when teams miss their 3's. They're forced to pack the paint to cover up their lack of size. They need a legit big and they'll need to get rid of AR to do it. When you have Luka on the team, the players around him need to be that much better on defense. AR can be more valuable to another team.
