View Full Version : Why is the awards voting filled with such ignorance?

Jalen Brunson clutch award? THIS year? The Knicks beat no good teams this year. When was he clutch? Clutch means you do something big to get the win down the stretch. The Knicks beat nobody good so what exactly did he do that was clutch? Did he have a game winner vs the Wizards? Oh wow.

Meanwhile Trae wasnt even a top 3 finalist. Multiple game winners, wins against the top seeded Cavs and also embarrassed Brunson's Knicks in the garden and shot dice on their logo. Somehow he's not a finalist, but Brunson wins the award. Like what is the thought process of someone who voted this way? Shouldnt it have to be explained when they get it this backward? And Im not down on Brunson as a player or have anything against him, but what is the logic to this particular vote? I dont see any.

Tatum and Mitchell are going to get first team NBA over and Anthony Edwards and Lebron James? Because 'team record?' But Giannis finished fifth in the East. So what the ****? How is that consistent?

Why even have a vote? Just take the highest scorer from the top 5 teams if that's all that voters think matters.

Literally none of it makes any sense. What a shit show.

Agree. Austin Reaves clearly should have won the clutch award.

NBA awards are for children.

Sometimes the media votes and sometimes the coaches vote and practically none of them are keeping up with the league compared to a hardcore fan. They often do get everything wrong. The media is obsessed with lazy thinking narratives and the coaches are biased.

NBA awards are for children.

The view that championships are the only thing to judge individuals on is also for children.

TLDR: NBA is for children.

Actually sports are just for children period.

Agree. I don't think people are as ignorant as we think they are. It's hard to rationalize. I mean, you might see someone in a store or something that you interact with and you were like damn what the **** was that dude even talking about? But professional people, they are put there for a reason.

People think differently, some don't even care, probably. Someone might say FOR THE INTEGRITY OF THE VOTING you should bow out if you don't really care, but otoh, if you are some media guy or a former player and they are like yo you can vote, you'd be like 4sho. And then you'd flip thru the web and be like I'm picking... HIM. "Been watching a lot of YouTube vids, and the MVP is..."

This is why I automatically tune out when "experts" on TV are having goat debates and start reeling off a guy's MVP's.

The only thing more egregious is reeling off stats and comparing them across generations.

OP, I hate to get "in your ass" and "burst your bubble," but Jalen Brunson was, statistically speaking, the clutchest player this season.

You know what?

Thats fair.

I forgot they have those official crunch time things that track plays in the final five minutes.

When youre just looking at it practically in the way we think of clutch plays, I dont remember any "big moments" of his this season. But there can be more to it than just what I was thinking of. I dunno why I got so riled up about something that trivial. Differences of opinion are okay.

We all need to be humbled now and then. Including Shedeur Sanders. Including myself.

And by the way?

You can burst your bubble in my ass any time Big Guy ;)
