Kyrie and Luka played part of the previous season together before they made it to the Finals. Had a whole year to play together then the Mavs made moves to solidify the Mavs wing and frontcourt. They had over a year to work together and figure out how to do things.

Luka and LeBron played less than 28 games together in the regular season and the trade the Lakers wanted to make couldn't go through because Mark Williams was too much of a risk with his health.

Plus, the trade wasn't made to win THIS year. It was made to solidify the Lakers in the future after LeBron leaves.
