It's only few hours left until the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery starts and we're finally gonna see where Cooper Flagg (the consensus No.1 overall) will end up.
As always, people will always hear conspiracy theories on whether the draft lottery is rigged. Here are each team's respective conspiracy theory on why Cooper Flagg somehow was always expected being drafted to [insert team].
Utah Jazz: White population.
Washington Wizards: Ted Leonsis (Wizards owner) revealed that he had entered an agreement to keep the Wizards in DC, thus ending the speculations on him relocating Wizards to Virginia. Agreement promised a new stadium renovation, and that the team could not consider relocation until 2045. Why the sudden change from Leonsis? He must've been promised the rights to Cooper Flagg of course.
Charlotte Hornets: LaMelo Ball is widely regarded by many as one of the most popular young players in the NBA, earning most votes among guards from the Eastern Conference. The Hornets may become the most popular team of Gen Z with Ball & Cooper on the same team. Also, the Hornets were sold to new owners in summer 2023. The new ownership didn’t give a damn about the severely underwhelming 2024 draft, so the league must’ve promised them the #1 pick in 2025.
New Orleans Pelicans: They received tons of attention after drafting Zion who needs a future All-Star teammate. Who could be a better choice than another legendary Duke prospect in Cooper?
Philadelphia 76ers: Philly is one of the biggest media markets in US, already having a superstar talent named Joel Embiid. The 76ers are currently on life support. Giving them Cooper would solve it.
Brooklyn Nets: Although the Nets are located in the biggest market in NBA, they still live in Knicks' shadow. Cooper could change things.
Toronto Raptors: Since the lottery is allegedly rigged every season, the NBA needs to make surprises to catch fans off guard. It's way too obvious if the draft gets rigged every season. Cooper to the Raptors to accomplish this.
San Antonio Spurs: Wemby is projected to be the face of the league, and he can’t become one with a bad roster. The ratings will go off the charts if Cooper is on the same team as Wemby.
Houston Rockets (PHX unprotected pick): Houston is a massive market on the cusp of becoming a potential dynasty, especially after how well they performed in the playoffs. Adding Cooper is guaranteed ratings, and also ensures a great situation for Cooper to develop into the next American superstar player the NBA needs. With the China market from Yao, and a successful franchise in Houston Is just a positive for the league.
Portland Trail Blazers: Portland absolutely refused to tank, going on a meaningless run at the end of the season. NBA wants to send a message to franchises like Utah and Washington that tanking won’t help, so they give Flagg to Portland.
Dallas Mavericks: Self explanatory lol
Chicago Bulls: Chicago is a gigantic market that’s been acting like a sleeping giant. The NBA is a better place when Chicago is good. Obvious decision to send Cooper to them
Sacramento Kings: The Kings sent their franchise player, De’Aaron Fox, to the Spurs to play with Wemby, and received a bad return. Why would they do that? With Wemby being the next face of the league in future, the NBA desperately needed a star next to him. After being promised Flagg, the Kings acquiesced and gave Fox for next to nothing, because Flagg was the real prize..
Atlanta Hawks: #1 overall pick back to back years? Obviously rigged, just like the Cavs in 2013 and 2014 was rigged too.
