First and foremost, I wish Tatum's recovery will be fine.
Having that said, I seriously doubt he may even be All-Star caliber player after his injury.
Many wishes Tatum to have a similar outcome like KD. But KD is almost near 7-footer who's among the most lethal mid-range shooters in NBA history.
Tatum, like John Wall, are completely different type of players as they constantly attack the rim to score in the paint. Every inch of athleticism is extremely valuable for their game as slasher, John Wall went from All-NBA caliber player to washed over night after his injury.
Is it expected Jayson Tatum will looked washed similar to John Wall? He's a slasher, not an shooter like KD.

He's one of the best pull-up shooters at his position/size. That, plus the fact that he's a great ball handler, passer, and playmaker, should insulate his game with age/injury-related resilience. He also leverages his strength a lot, which he won't lose much of.
John Wall couldn't shoot, and he is much smaller. KD can't handle or pass the ball like Tatum can; his IQ and feel for the game can't compare. By feel, we're talking about things like shot selection and knowing when to pass and when to score. i.e., making the game easier for oneself.

He's a shooter. Not a great one but a shooter nonetheless. He's also a lot younger than Wall was at the time and he's 6-9 not 6-2.

Wall was 28.
Tatum is 27.

Thought it was almost a 2-year difference but you're right. Still, Tatum's younger and taller and doesn't rely on his speed as much. In fact I'd say it's one of the main criticisms with JT that he doesn't attack the paint enough and settles for 3s instead.

This is true if youre comparing him just across all the players in the league.
If youre talking max guys, Im not sure "great" and "one of the best" really applies to anything he does offensively. The big games like last night are fairly anomalous in the playoffs. People remember them as if theyre the norm but they really arent. His contract is a bit questionable as is, if his impact takes a hit from where it already was that's gonna be a disappointment for everyone.
Anyway I really hope for the best for him. Altho Im oft critical of him as "not being that guy" in big moments, he seems like a good dude. I will have my fingers crossed he makes as close to a 100% recovery as possible.

He's a Paul George who cant shoot(but is better at everything else than PG13). He's definitely not a slasher. He will probably be around the same player when he comes back. Hopefully, he is smart enough to know to lose some muscle but it took kawhi about 4 injuries until he got the clue. So ya never know

He's not a small guard. He's young. It's not his lead foot. He'll be fine.

Speculating on how he returns is pointless because we're just guessing. The way Kobe came back is reason to be concerned whereas the way Durant came back means there is some hope. Only people with a fraction of a clue are Tatum and whoever repaired hits Achilles.
