View Full Version : Fellow Sixers fans
Sixers without a first rd pick are still a playoff contender. So having the ability to draft 3rd overall is a nice luxury coming off last season disappointment. At pick 3 you take BPA regardless of position. You go for need? Fit? You’re not too bright.
What prospects do you want? Harper if Spurs pass him up? Bailey who may meet the BPA + fit? VJ, 2 way potential? Tre Johnson, probably the best shooter in draft? Whoever we take isn’t expected to play immediately nor impact the team next season. This is more of a future talent to add when Embiid/George marriage ends…and it’s coming
Drummond, Oubre, Gordon picked up options and will be back
McCain is set to come back from injury. I like him but not to the point he can’t be traded either.
Q.Grimes will be given a team. Only the Nets have the space to really snag him if I’m not mistaken. Why would Nets overpay for Grimes? They failed in the lottery. This would add more laughs. Grimes showed some promise during the year where Sixers didn’t care about winning.
Yabu will also receive a deal from Sixers. They cleared room by ridding themselves of KJ Martin deal. Whether he decides to play elsewhere is his decision.
Sixers have some young talent currently on roster but nothing that screams anything other than role player to me. Outside of McCain it’s pretty bland.
Embiid/George/Maxey should all be healthy at the same time. Maxey I have no problems with. The other two? Eh. George was a terrible addition last summer. Typical of Morey
I was definately on the Ace bandwagon but something about VJ is pulling me more towards him at 3. What say you?

My understanding is the no 3 pick will squeeze the salary cap room due to higher picks getting bigger contracts. This makes it harder to sign Grimes and Yabu, so it is possible they won't both return. I assume they are more likey to sign Grimes but I would love both back.
I see the need get BPA and the value that has, but also having someone playable, NBA ready, and on a rookie deal is also a huge advantage going forward for the roster if they are still going to try compete for a championship.
That being said, getting the BPA at number 3 means the player should be NBA ready and able to contribute straight away.
My only fear is another small guard already having Maxey and McCain. Ultimately they need to start planning a likely situation of a post Embiid era beginning sooner than they anticipated.

This is becoming an interesting issue for a lot of teams, with the growth of the game far outpacing league expansion. The league is brimming with talent already and teams are gonna be drafting high value prospects onto rosters that dont really have any obvious openings for them.
It's gonna be great for creating competition within teams, but also gonna lead to some frustration among some players who see themselves as starters but may struggle to get minutes.

I'd be shocked if you guys don't pick Bailey. High motor guy on D and on the boards who plays well off ball.

Outside of scoring ability what else does he do? Shot blocking is cool but is he playing above average defense? He leaves a lot to be desired as a playmaker. I was high on him but I may need to convince myself again.

Spurs are interested in Yabu I read. Typical
Outside of Cooper Flagg run off the prospects you think are NBA ready.

He's 19/20, he's a prospect. He'll be fine. Defense is the hardest part to learn going to the NBA, but the raw tools are there

Same thing said about Michael Porter Jr until it is what it is….

He is a little like Westbrook in that his motor runs hot all the time. That is a big plus on defense. I would say his on ball defense is good already. Off ball can be good but his awareness isn't always there which is typical at that age.
I would also say he is coachable. The guy I saw in the first 10 games wasn't a top 10 prospect. Then the next 10 games you could tell he was responding to coaching. Less fadeaway jumpers, more taking it inside, fewer turnovers and more assists.
Towards the end of the season it looked like he shut it down a bit since it was clear they weren't a tournament team.

TBH I'm not really sure right now. No doubt there will be endless analysis and talk about it between now and the draft. Morey may even trade the pick, which seems to be a big possibility at this stage also.
What is alarming to me and isn't talked about is the fact that the Rutgers team with both Bailey and Harper sucked this season. One of the main red flags about Ben Simmons pre draft was how LSU didn't make the tournament that year. I haven't seen anyone address why a team with the project number 2 and 3 pick not only missed the NCAA tournament but had a losing record.

Their only interior D was Ace who plays the wing. Harper had almost as many blocks as their starting center.
After Harper merked Alabama early in the season he started getting doubled a lot. The other guys weren't great with the ball. It was a comedy of errors at times
If I could label Rutgers one thing it was Inconsistent. That was an overall team thing. You can point to a wide variety of issues. I don’t think you can pinpoint the issue with the two freshman. With Ben it seemed like he bailed quick at seasons end. Decided to go workout and prepare for draft. Maybe LSU canceling the NIT invite went hand & hand with it? Maybe Ben showed he was done before it was announced? I didn’t hear about Harper and Bailey focusing on the draft vs finishing out the year.

Ace Bailey's shooting numbers are concerning.
Below average outside shot and not a great free throw shooter last season.
More red flags.

His FT% is misleading and not a concern. He only shot bad from Ft 4 times in his 30 games. But he avg under 4 FT per game. If you want a concern it’s his driving to the rim rate. That’s extremely low.
It’s going to be tough to find a prospect after Flagg and Harper that have glaring concerns. Guess it’ll come down to Ace or VJ. Unless Sixers find someone we don’t know about.

How many times did you watch him? Sounds like not at all. Nobody that watched him would say he is a below average shooter.
