b2b unreal 4th quarter collapses. Unreal stuff.
Should be 4-1 ing right now instead theyre facing elimination.
Embarrassing stuff. Not just offensively, also on defense just a horror show.
Probably missing Mike Malone on that end.

Losing as a heavy underdog. So - to be expected.
I'd put the leaders on the Lakers team as heavy favs against the Wolves close to the top.

Youre having trouble with words and definitions.
Im not talking about upsets, Im talking about choking. Sucking in the 4th quarter with big leads.

Thats games 1 and 2.
But this, this is almost unparraleled... not sure Ive ever seen anything like it, doing that up 2-1 for 2 straight games.

I was assured by the stat dorks that Jokic was this legendary once in a lifetime offensive player. The best ever according to the advanced stats and made up tabulations.
How do you not close that game?

I said it in the GT, he was way too passive the first 6 mins and let the lead slip away by doing so.
But he did end up with 13 4th q points on like 5/7.
Trash defense though.
Mixed bag.
Great game but not cut throat.

Losing like that as the favorites is worse IMO, Denver's just worn down and worse than OKC.

He had that miracle turn around 3 but that was a prayer. The Nuggets had multiple chances to put this game out of reach. Should be an easy enough task if you have that type of lead and the greatest offensive player of all time.
Keeping your team in the game for 3.5 quarters doesn't mean shit if you can't close.
Choking? They are nowhere close to OKC, they're doing better than expected tbh.

Im not sure Ive ever seen consecutive chokes of this caliber in the middle of a series up 2-1 in the conference semifinals.
Game 4: Up 8 with 11:30 left, from 10:43 to 6:17 they missed 8 straight shots + 2 turnovers. Jokic then went 1/4 on FTs.
Game 5: Up 9 with the ball and 8:30 left, go awol. Hit 1 shot the first 8:45 mins of the quarter. 4/18 at one point at the end.
For a championship team thats disgraceful territory.
OKC didnt deserve to get away with either of these games.
AlternativeAcc.

They were insanely lucky to win games 1 and 3. OKC had been in control the majority of the series. Both teams gave away 2 games late, the difference is OKC had a massive blowout and Denver has only won by squeaking out two games where Aaron Gordon had to hit a game saving 3.

It's not choking when you're out manned like this. You're bound to lose steam when you have to overplay your top end talent. OKC is a deep team. They played 10 guys today. Nuggets played 8 and that's with Strawther only just entering their rotation.
Choking is when you fail to execute due to pressure.

I did, he had a good game.
But there was a whole pocket in the 4th quarter where not a single Nugget could do a god damn thing. And believe me I don't enjoy having to say this about Joker because I am rooting for him, but stat dorks leave me no choice when they try and gaslight the public about this guy.
As the team's leader and so called greatest offensive player ever, he needs to keep the game under control and put the Thunder to bed there.

Jokic tried to get his teammates going because he knew he'd need them down the stretch, and doing that with an 8 point cushion is smart. The fact that he had to go aggressive carry mode earlier than he wanted resulted in worse defensive effort due to fatigue. You can't score at will all game because stamina is limited, smart players choose their spots, if your teammates fail you like tonight there's just not much one single person can do.
Game 6 of the 2018 western finals was a notable one. 27-straight threes missed by houston, wtf. :oldlol:

Losing an 8 point lead is just basketball.
Denver's strength over the last few years has been late game execution. They win a high number of games in clutch time, including 2 this series. They obviously aren't going to win every one.

The Nuggets have been the best crunchtime and 4Q team in the league I believe. They've won 2 games in this series solely off their clutch essentially otherwise it would've already been a sweep.
And you're flipping your wig off over 1 game they were heavily favored to lose anyway. I think the odds were -350.
Stop getting so emotional arby. You're a prisoner of the moment here.

Updated choke specifics:
Game 4: Up 8 with 11:30 left, missed 8 straight shots + 2 turnovers from 10:45 to 6:15. Jokic then went 1/4 on FTs after that in a 2 and 4 point game respectively with 6 and 3 minutes left each.
Game 5: Jokic teammates 0/15 4th quarter, until Murray garbage time layup with 15 seconds left. 0/15... Nuggets went 1/13 until the 3 minute mark, 10 straight missed shots with 2 turnovers. Up 9 with the ball and 8:30 left.
The biggest 4th quarter offensive collapse / choke of all time, especially relative to previous 3 quarters and offensive quality.
To do this b2b as a championship team is damn near disgracing this league. What an absolute stain on high level professional basketball. I cant believe I considered this team clutch.
Never have there been consecutive chokes of this caliber in the middle of a series while leading it, conference semifinals onward.
Never.

Down 8 after 3 in Game 1, and still down 9 with 3 minutes left, Denver comes back to win on the road against a 68 win team. They must be the best clutch team ever.

We’ve seen far worse chokes this postseason alone
The Celtics blowing b2b 20 point 2nd half leads at home
The Bucks blowing a 7 point lead in 40 seconds
Even OKC in Game 1 was worse than either of these losses, ditto the Cavs in Game 2 against Indy

Relative to offensive quality, these have to be BY FAR the biggest crunchtime collapses ever seen.
Can anyone name any remotely similar b2b 4th quarter collapses from a championship team and a team of such offensive caliber?
It starts with the leader isnt that right @tpols

How about OKC in 2011 against Dallas?
They blew a 15 point lead with under 5 minutes to go in Game 4, then were up 7 with under 6 minutes to go in Game 5. That's worse imo

Good one for sure.
But Mavs led the series and were the more experienced team.
OKC was always gonna be the more likely team to choke.
What we saw from this Denver team is unprecedented.

Nuggets have no bench and struggle to finish games, especially against a superior opponent like OKC.
This isn't really choking, OKC just has far more talent and depth.

This doesn’t really count as a choke job until they lose the series, which they probably will.
In 94, the Houston Chronicle dubbed the Rockets “Choke City” in a huge headline after they dropped the first two games at home against Phoenix. That’s how they later took on the moniker of “Clutch City.”
If Denver wins at home in the 6th (a very good chance), then the only question of choke or clutch will come down to game 7. If they lose in six, this will be seen as a huge choke job. If they win the series, then no one will care about these (until years later, when 3ball junior trots out a detailed, but mostly false analysis about why Joker is over/under rated).

I would agree that their performance in the 4th quarter was so bad. They really had a chance in winning game 5 earlier.
