Ignoring 1994/95, when he return only for last 17 games, he played 14 full seasons: 12 with the Bulls & 2 with Wizards.

Only 4 times he was not in top 3 MVP voting:

Rookie seasn - finished 6th
2nd season - missed almost full season due to an injury
1st Wizards season - got some votes, 13th
Last season - no votes, too old.
Other thant that 10 seasons looked like: 2nd, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 1st, 1st, 3rd, 1st, 2nd, 1st.

When he finished 3rd, on both times Sir Charles was in front of him: 1990, with one of the closest 3 horse races. Magic won, even Charles had most 1st place votes.

1993 - Charles won deservedly, while Hakeem was 2nd in front of MJ.

In total, even MJ played only 14 seasons, he's 2nd in all time MVP votes share with 8.11, behind Bron with 8.8. KAJ is 3rd with 6.1

Among other active players Jokic has 4.5, good for 7th place.

Barkley robbed in 1990.

We can say this about many players in many seasons. Usually we're being hyperbolic. But with Charles in 1990, robbed is the correct word to use.

He should be regarded as a 2x MVP.

Just to clarify this point, Barkley had 38 1st place votes to Magic's 27. But a bunch of voters left Barkley off their ballot completely, due to off-court stuff.

It's almost like media awards are BS. But it's different era's, John Stockton was never top five while he was doing things that had never been done before or since. He was behind Malone because PPG and 30K was a much bigger deal then than it was today. A lot of great players got hurt, and other guys weren't getting votes if they weren't top six teams.

Harden, Rose, and Westbrook would have never won MVP's during this era.

What made Barkley deserving in 1993? The Suns were already perennial WCF participants before he got there and had a bevy of stars, while Barkley's dominance and stats were nothing compared to 93' MJ... The media simply gave it to Sir Charles because they LOVE him ... still do...... And it was a nice cumbaya story with him on the Suns, so he was advertised as the winner all year long

He led the Suns to 5 more wins despite Pippen outscoring all his teammates on Phoenix, he absolutely deserved MVP, esp considering the Bulls dropped off by 10 wins from the year before.

He would've won the Finals too if he had a teammate averaging 21/9/8 and teammates bailing him out with title clinching 3's like Jordan did. There's a reason the Bulls won 55 games without him the very next year, his team was stacked.

Bro, stahp it:

93' Barkley........ 7.8 BPM..... 7.1 VORP.... 25.9 PER... 0.242 WS/48.... 25.9 ppg on 60 TS
93' Jordan...... 11.2 BPM... 10.2 VORP.... 29.7 PER... 0.270 WA/48.... 32.6 ppg on 56 TS

The pre-Barkley Suns were a perennial WCF team with far more weapons than the Bulls, so they had 3 guys sharing the load and getting close to Pippen's PPG... KJ in particular was a dominant player and top 3 PG - he was a much better scorer, passer, and leader than Pippen, while leading multiple teams to the WCF (and upset Magic's 1-seeded Lakers)..

Furthermore, the Suns could win 50-55 games every year - they weren't a one-off and then barely .500 the next year.... The Suns were a REAL 55 win team, while the 94' Bulls were the only team that lacked a 2nd scorer, thereby winning via 3-peat chemistry and effort/chip on shoulder (not talent).

* media darling and favorite
** MJ fatigue

People forget that the 93' Suns had Ceballos for 74 games - he was a much better scorer than Pippen and one of the goat off-ball players, and the Suns also had Tom frieking Chambers at 5th option.. So in addition to Barkley and KJ, the Suns had 4 guys that were equal or better scorers than Pippen vying for 3rd option, i.e. Majerle, Dumas, Chambers, Ceballos..

This is why the Suns won 53-55 games every year from 89' to 92' before Barkley arrived - they weren't a one-off and then barely .500 the next year.... The Suns were a REAL 55 win team, while the 94' Bulls were the only team that lacked a 2nd scorer, thereby winning via 3-peat chemistry and effort/chip on shoulder (not talent).

I don't think I have a basketball hero. I was too young for the dynasty era's of the 80's. All the guys that were big deals that came in when I was of the fan boy age let me down or weren't my cup of tea. Now I'm too old to really value other guys.

That's really f'n depressing Axe you ruined my day.

It wasn't like the Suns just added Barkley and won 5 more games.

They lost an all star in Hornacek, they lost Chambers from the starting lineup (bc he was their starting PF) and they lost KJ to injury for half the season.

The Suns had the #1 offense in the league and secured home court for the playoffs and finals with 2 weeks to go in the RS, despite missing their All star PG for half the season.
