Assuming Trump totally shits the bed and has a disastrous term, that doesn't mean it would automatically set the table for the democrats. You can afford to play bad when the other team is playing worse.

Even if people decide it's time to move on from Trump, I can't image they'd be willing to settle for communism and all the other weird shit on the progressive agenda. So long as they keep moving further left I would guess republicans have little to worry about. It would require a total revamp of the party for the dems to start gaining momentum.
