Flagg can't "go off" like Bird - he has no jumper by comparison

Today's spaced out, hands-off format = robotic scorers and skills, such as downhill/PNR spamming.. It's simpleton basketball that underperforms favored talent in tougher international formats.

Otoh, the lesser spacing and physicality of previous eras produced sophisticated scorers that developed the touch and instinct to score in traffic and off-the-cuff.. This contrasts with today's spacing and predictable scoring.

TLDR: Bird was a natural, pure scorer with goat instincts that could go OFF... Flagg can't go off because he has no jumper compared to Bird.. This guys is seriously overhyped and will settle in around Gordon Hayward level.. Maybe Kirelinko.. Something along those lines - this caliber will be treated like it's the best ever, so it will take about 5-7 years before everyone admits that he's nowhere near Bird.

It's way too early to put any kind of cap or ceiling on Cooper. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he becomes an 85%+ FT, 37-40%+ 3PT, 45% mid-range level of shooter. He could become just as good a shooter as Bird. Hell, KD shot 40.4% 3PT and 81.6% FT in college; Klay did 39.0% and 82.7%.

I agree. It’s gonna be getting thrown into the deep end and seeing if he will sink or swim. Sounds like Mavs were already realistic with their expectations when they were talking about putting him out of his comfort zone.

That really isn't his game though. He is fine as a secondary ball handler but he shouldn't be the primary guy. he isn't Lebron/Luka.

I need to see the receipts on that. Who's making this comparison? And what would the comparison be, besides the obvious low hanging fruit one? They play absolutely nothing alike nor have similar attributes. I've heard more people comment on him being similar to Jayson Tatum than Bird.

Too early to make that call, IMO. He was 90th percentile in PnR Ball Handler possessions on high volume for the #1 offense in college. More assists than Cade (4.2 vs 3.5) with half as many turnovers. Comparable AST% and apg to Ben Simmons with way fewer turnovers. He could end up a Luka/LeBron playmaker and I wouldn't be surprised because the evidence was there.
