gotta love how the democrats fight tooth and nail for the most trivial shit. this is almost as rich as calling homeless people "unhoused".
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., forced a name change for President Donald Trump's "big, beautiful bill" moments before the legislative package passed the upper chamber of Congress.
While Sen. Pete Ricketts, R-Neb., was chairing the Senate, Schumer raised a point of order against lines three to five on the first page of the legislative proposal that said, "SHORT TITLE. This Act may be cited as the ‘'One Big Beautiful Bill Act.'"
Schumer argued the title of the bill violated Section 313 B1A of the Congressional Budget Act of 1974, or what's commonly referred to as the "Byrd Rule."
Ricketts said the point of order was sustained, meaning that text will be stricken from the bill.
"This is not a ‘big, beautiful bill’ at all. That's why I moved down the floor to strike the title. It is now called ‘the act.’ That's what it's called. But it is really the ‘big ugly betrayal,’ and the American people know it," Schumer told reporters. "This vote will haunt our Republican colleagues for years to come. Because of this bill, tens of millions will lose health insurance. Millions of jobs will disappear. People will get sick and die, kids will go hungry and the debt will explode to levels we have never seen.
"This bill is so irredeemable that one Republican literally chose to retire rather than vote yes and decimate his own state," Schumer added, referring to Sen. Thom Tills, R-N.C.
Asked whether he hoped to irritate Trump by changing the name of the bill, Schumer responded, "I didn't even think of President Trump. I thought of the truth. This is not a beautiful bill. Anyone who loses their health insurance doesn't think it's beautiful. Any worker in the clean energy industry who loses their job does not think it's beautiful. Any mom who can't feed her kid on $5 a day doesn't think it's beautiful. We wanted the American people to know the truth."
The Senate narrowly passed Trump's $3.3 trillion spending package by a 51-50 vote on Tuesday after an all-night voting session.

The Republicans who passed that bill today are traitors to their nation. They gave up on their constituents and pushed something through that primarily helps themselves and the rich. If you are a middle-class or lower-class Republican and cheered for this, congratulations. You got what you wanted - a grave dug for your future and most of the people you know. If you were in it just to stick it to the libs, congratulations, you stuck it to every lib who isn't filthy rich and every republican who is middle-class or poor by gutting social net. And the taxcuts are so massive that it's still going to add 3.3 trillion to the debt even with those massive guts. If you were in it to cut the debt/deficit, congratulations on getting the exact opposite. Any work/savings that DOGE saved to the deficit is going into these taxcuts 10x worse. Congratulations, you got what you wanted.

Aside from no evidence that trickle down works this bill is "trickle up".
I don't how people still think there's some swamp draining going on while it's all nepotism that's happening.

Then you should educate yourself on the bill. It's extremely unpopular, and Republicans are going to pick up a ton of hate from this. Blue wave is on the way next year, and you need to educate yourself before you yell conspiracy next year. But this depends on how much of Project 2025 things they implement as it pertains to election laws by then. The America and the American way you thought existed is under threat by extremely wealthy oligarchs and corporations in control through Republicans in power (Doesn't excuse Democrats either for the lobbying money they take, but lets call this what this was - Republicans writing it and pushing it with majority across both houses). Educate yourself on this bill before you say anything about trickle down economics.

I'll say this right off the bat.... f*ck SNAP, I don't believe in Food Stamps. I'd rather be hungry than have the government feed me, so I support cuts to that. Where is your pride America?
In FY 2023, SNAP served an average of 42.1 million participants per month. Federal SNAP spending totaled $112.8 billion and benefits averaged $211.93 per participant per month.
For years I once qualified for SNAP and never took advantage of it like others did... Seriously, where is your pride? 42 million people? That number should be closer to 30 million... learn how to fast.
I support the child tax credit increase (it should be more). I support no tax on tips & overtime (100%). I do not support MASS deportations, I do however support border security and think we need to stop the flow of illegals. ($200 Billion seems excessive).... and as far as the deportation thing goes, I think women & children should be spared. If we insist on deporting illegals... lets have some decency and start with the Men first.
Clean Energy is not a priority in my opinion. Tax Cuts for all individuals works for me, even if they are wealthy individuals, it boosts the economy and keeps unemployment low.
CHIP is a bad one to make cuts on, I don't think I can support that at all.
from what I've heard the $3 trillion added is spread out several years... either way, never a fan of increasing the debt
Cuts to the Affordable Care Act doesn't seem like a horrible idea... Obamacare is bull$hit.
$700 Billion from Medicaid doesn't seem fair, but life is unfair. Many can argue that their tax dollars shouldn't have to pay for your unhealthy lifestyle.
Overall... based on the information blade has posted... I'll give the Bill a score of 2 stars out of 5.
There's some good things and some bad things... but overall more bad than good (that much is obvious).
Even though it increases the debt, it adds more capital back into the wallets of "We The People" and is very pro Capitalist in nature.
I have very little doubt that UBI will introduced by 2030... if not 2030, definitely by 2035.

Just 2 months ago you all swore to the heavens that we were headed for a deep recession and that the stock market would never recover. None of you know what you're talking about. You're all just led by your emotions. Show some humility and be quiet for once.
If you guys knew what was best for the economy you wouldn't be so angry and miserable from having no money.

yes, there are people that take advantage of it, don't need it, can do without it, etc.
but the people that indeed need it shouldn't suffer or be inconvenienced because of those bad apples. people with health issues and disabilities go through enough trouble, stres and frustration in their lives, a lot more than you or i can even imagine. i witness it first hand, everyday.

5.5 trillion, by the time it's all said and done. and by then, the beneficial parts of the bill such as no tax on tips and overtime pay will have sunsetted while the tax cuts remain permanent. all aboard the gravy train.

Food Stamps should be for unemployed, homeless, living in the ghetto type folks.
Not middle class citizens.... and many middle class folks are receiving food stamps.
I just feel like you should go full "Cinderella Man" before accepting food stamps.
also food stamps creates a mindset of government dependence.
Not defending the bill, especially if it's adding to the National debt.... just disagree with Food stamps

I'm not advocating to scrap food stamps all together... I'm just saying it should be a little bit harder to qualify for Food Stamps than it is now.
You get a $500 child tax credit to help with some of that burden if you have kids. You have 2 kids? There's an extra $1000 for the year.
I'm sorry but Food Stamps should not be for average middle class Americans and that's what I've encountered in the past.

The problem is you’re only looking at this from one perspective. I’ll raise you that someone with a full time job should be able to afford at least a shitty apartment, not live in a tent on the side of the road. I do agree food stamps is a shitty bandaid fix, what we really need to do is heavily price control inelastic goods and services: housing, medicine and food… at least at a very baseline. Privatize/ tariff/ what-have-you luxury goods all you want- capitalism, but in a society where we can support this kind of wealth there is no reason we can’t make sure the average working household can’t live a respectable life with access to the necessities and are able to retire with dignity. The problem is we keep trying to subsidize with govt programs, what we need to do instead is regulate labor rights and limit greedy corporate price gouging necessities.

obviously this bill sucks for a lot of reasons, especially the allocation of funds for critical programs like medicaid to other not so critical areas. 150 billion budget for ice. their current budget is 10 billion. the marines budget is 50 billion. neither federal law enforcement agency has a budget that touches 150 billion. that's absolutely insane and i gurantee you that it will be given out in mass contracts for detention centers to be built and operated by donnie's donors. that sh1t is so fcking corrupt to the max level. not to mention the police state concerns.
$45 billion for building new immigration detention centers
immigration is an absolute joke in this country. the conservatives have used it as the boogeyman for decades to scare their vote base into voting against liberal policy immigration laws, but they themselves are using it for nefarious reasons including cheap labor, syphoning money through building expensive detention centers and overcharging for immigration transport.
only one other country has a bigger military/defense budget than ice's current budget, and that's china.

I never want to hear about fiscal responsibility or DOGE from any Republican again. Anything they saved went into massive historic taxcuts and insane increases in things like ICE funding. What the hell does ICE need 150+ billion dollars per year for? More than total military budget of every country other than US and China.. Our military budget is also going up past a trillion.
Medicare is going to be impacted too. "The legislation allows more medications to be exempt from Medicare’s price negotiation program, which was created to lower the government’s drug spending. Now, manufacturers will be able to keep those prices higher."
Adding 3.3 trillion to the debt. Whatever happened to using "fiscal responsibility" as a counter-argument and goal?
Mostly crickets in this thread from MAGA on this board after this bill passed (a couple of personal attacks but no defense of the bill). Where you at, MAGA??
Did Trump cut deals for you too to fall in line like Republicans in both houses?
Representative Ralph Norman, Republican of South Carolina, who staged an open revolt against the bill but ultimately fell in line with his colleagues to support the legislation, refused to detail what he was offered in return for his support.
“It’ll be sometime next week,” he said about when the public would learn the details of what deals were struck to coax him and others into backing the multitrillion-dollar package.
