There is a lot more to such a comparison than scoring numbers. Most importantly, the question of who was the better defender should be addressed. Honestly I can't answer that question because I ignored that team (MJ was clearly no longer the player he once was so I felt no need to watch) but figure that should be addressed.

One thing I will bring up that I do remember from the year before: Stackhouse got destroyed on both ends of the floor the season before in the playoff series vs the Celtics by Paul Pierce. Dumars didn't say that was the reason that they traded him but I believe him being exposed like that showed Detroit that he was not superstar caliber, because as great as I believe Pierce to be a true superstar level player might get outplayed but it would be a competition. Maybe Pierce could do that to old Jordan but I doubt it would be like that.

MJ was 40. He wasn’t a good defender by that stage either, although the advanced metrics suggest he was better than Stackhouse that year on defense while Stackhouse has the edge on offense. They seem pretty much the same caliber of players in terms of impact.

Wizards were 6 - 6 without Stackhouse. Jordan had better advanced numbers and on/off. Stackhouse played pretty badly post-ASB.

I'd say they're pretty much equal but Jordan played more games so edge goes to him.
