I'm not one to count people's money, but in 10 seasons Booker has 4 all-star nods, 2 all-NBA( one 1st, one 3rd). I'll just say it's....interesting to have that much tied up in a player for which much of his first and only deep playoff run( 2021) should fairly be attributed to CP3's leadership. You can pen him in for 25-28 a night but I've never thought his numbers had any tangible impact, not as a lead guy anyway. But hey, get that bag.

This might turn into the Beal contract in the final years

I've been retired now for a decade ... best I ever did was 45k ..
And most of these posters on here never saw that - and yet except Booker making 42k a SHOT.
I remember when MJ was making 33k .. I was amazed at that ..

The salary cap is going up every year, by the time this extension kicks in this salary is going to look a lot more normal.

it's still a massive overpayment and it comes at the cusp of a financial sh1tstorm this team got themselves into by taking on massive salaries...all for a player that can't bring the team to the playoffs without cp3 or kd, and sometimes even with kd he failed. but he's about the only top 20 player that's going to play here in the next 4-5 years so i guess they are stuck.

It's only a bad deal for them if he has a no trade clause. Otherwise they can definitely move him for some says of they decide to blow it up. Even Beal could have been dealt of not for the no trade.

You can say the same thing about so many All Star level players. Shit at least Booker made a finals as the lead guy which is more than some others can say, and even less can say they won a championship so you can't exactly use that as a standard. And All Star nods are a popularity contest especially with all guards being grouped together.
The fact of the matter is Booker is one of the top SGs in the league, it's not easy to find players who can give you around 27/7/5 on efficient numbers and solid defense. He can run the point if needed(and he will be a lot this year). He's played in Phoenix his whole career, thus he's a fan favorite, sells jerseys, and never been one to start drama involving the team nor request trades. He's made it clear he wants to stay loyal to Phoenix and the team is rewarding him with some loyalty in return.
Will the Suns be a legitimate threat or not remains to be seen. I like the way they're building up this roster now though, they just had arguably the best draft in the NBA with the value they got getting 3 very promising players at far lower picks than expected. They are finally prioritizing defensive talent again which is nice. Beal's contract is obviously a handicap, but if they can buy him out and stretch it then it will still be a handicap but not nearly as bad and they can get back under the tax aprons.
A lot of people are writing the Suns off completely but I think their near future will be better than many expect.
