There's nothing being taken out of context here, even if you watch the entire clip. She had just gotten done talking about how the local and federal agencies would be working together hand and hand. The reporter then asked "What's the chain of command?", which is a perfectly legitimate question to ask in that moment.

It's not like she couldn't answer the question because she was stumbling to come up with a response. You could tell by her bewilderment that she was thrown off by phrasing of the question itself. She legitimately didn't know what the reporter was getting at.

The mayor realized in that moment that she was a deer in headlights which is she intervened.

DC police chief retains command after deal with Trump administration

The Trump administration has rescinded an order replacing the District of Columbia's police chief after an emergency court hearing.

Washington DC's police chief Pamela Smith will retain control of the force after the city sued over US Attorney General Pam Bondi naming the head of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) as the district's "emergency police commissioner".

The lawsuit asked a judge to void Bondi's order and stop the DEA head from taking any position of command in the force.

After the hearing, the justice department agreed to remove the DEA head as the emergency police chief, filing a new order that made him an intermediary between the administration and police.

The city's attorney general Brian Schwalb said that his "expectation is the key issue with respect to control and command of our MPD has been resolved".

Judge Ana Reyes said that, under the act the Trump administration used to take over the police service, Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser must follow White House directives.

But she said it does not grant the administration full control of the police force.

The new order also directs the mayor's office to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement and enforcement related to the "unlawful occupancy of public spaces".

Both sides said they will continue arguments over immigration policy next week.

did thse 42 arrests result in convictions? part of the problem with NY is that those police are ready to jump the shark and harass minorities for made up crimes, so a lot of their arrests result in acquittals or charges dropped, or maybe they do arrest a criminal that deserves it but are too rough on him during the arrest and it results in charges dropped.

i said i believe in diversion programs for NON-VIOLENT crimes. clearly, if someone is a menace and has a rap sheet involving VIOLENT CRIMES, they should not be eligible for diversion programs.

i don't know enough about this guy but clearly this has to been someone that got through the cracks because i have a hard time believing most people get this lucky.

and again, a lot of this blame lies on legislators that have created dumb ass laws that incarcerate people for non violent crimes or crimes that simply don't deserve jail/prison time. parking tickets doesn't deserve prison time. driving 100mph on the highway doesn't deserve jail time - the list goes on, this leads to prison overcrowding and as a result, diversion programs with loose rules.
