Even though Lebron is 40 years old, he technically could out last Luca Doncic since Lebron is always in shape. Luca is in shape for now.
But right now there are several reasons why Lebron is still better than Doncic. He averaged just as many points last year while shooting a 5 percent higher field goal percentage. He averaged even more assists than Doncic last year. Also, Lebron is still doing amazing chase down blocks. Luca could never do that, even now.
Lebron is still stronger and faster than Doncic. So I think they made a mistake for not extending Lebron. Just because Lebron is old doesn't mean that he isn't close to the same player. He doesn't age normally. He could play another 5 years at the same level if he wanted to.
Remember defense is half of the game and Lebron is still better at defense than Doncic. He guarded 1-5 last year. How come Doncic couldn't guard Rudy Gobert in the playoffs? Lebron at least held his own, he didn't too bad against Gobert.
So I don't understand why they didn't extend Lebron, when he was always be better than Doncic, and will be as long as he's still playing.
