WooooOOO!
I said in another thread that Kobe's resume is 100% top 10 worthy. And could be ranked anywhere as low as 5-7. GOAT? I wouldn't make the argument, but if someone based that on skillet or whatever, I wouldn't argue against it.

Kobe isn't even top 10.

Kobe is the basketball GOAT.
He personified it.

Depends on criteria. If we're talking the most skilled player ever, Kobe has an argument over anyone and I think most won't have a problem with me putting Curry, Kyrie and Kobe in the top 3. Hitting a turnaround 3 against nba defense with the OFF HAND... is something I've never seen before or since.

All Mark Cuban can do is clap and give Kobe his flowers.
Kobe's footwork and skill with his left are goat.

Who else shoots a turnaround fadeaway in the post with their offhand? The shot itself taken normally is already considered a high difficulty attempt. Kobe might be the only one with the audacity to even try.

Kobe could be argued as #2. He has the hardware, skillset/talent and carried himself with legendary status and his fans and peers all knew. The respect factor matters along with how you approach the game.

In terms of sheer skillset, he has a case for no.2, just on *that* basis. I'm not saying like the traditional "full career analysis" type thing but if we're just talking about who was the baddest to ever step onto a court ...
He probably is the 2nd greatest scoring threat in the history of the game, scoring 81 points in the mid-2000s is fu**ing bonkers.
There was also that stretch where he was putting up 40+ point games like it was nothing to him and Phil Jackson had to tell him to stop because Shaq was getting jealous. But you consider that ... I mean how many players in the history of the game could realistically stack 40 point games in a row like it was nothing?
Maybe Jordan, but the list gets real thin after that. Durant might have the skillset to do it but he doesn't have the drive to do that.
I think Kobe is better than Magic or Bird or Russell or Curry honestly, maybe there with Kareem.
But the sometimes abrasive personality and sometimes the lack of efficiency are fair knocks. He could get baited into playing stupid basketball at times, but still you can't deny the skill level being off the charts.
Back to back titles with Gasol is not too shabby either ... Gasol was a good player, but he wasn't really a great player.

Kobe was basically MJ with an AND1 handle.
That is GOAT.

I've always said the Mikan/Kobe line is Mikan is as bad a player you can be and still be considered GOAT, Kobe as good a player you can be and not considered the GOAT.
Second best Shooting Guard of all-time, maybe the best one on one guy ever. He just never really broke away from his generation of guys he came up with.
