View Full Version : So Pablo Torre just released an episode exposing the clippers circumventing the cap

They were teasing last week that he would have a big reveal… Perhaps the Epstein list…but then he teased it was NBA related to get the heat off and call off the assassins….
I thought it might be PEDs but no.
Apparently Ballmer started a fake tree planting company that gave Kawhi Leonard $28 million for A commercial that was never filmed, and never intended to be filmed and tried to hide who the owner of the company was. He basically got a $28 million no-show job like on the Sopranos.
You can look up the episode and many many YouTube clips. I’m sure. I’ll be surprised if they are the only ones who are gonna get exposed if he stays on it. I’m not sure what the penalties are, but the NBA is gonna have to respond.

The whole Episode…
https://youtu.be/1OwzYk6OCFM?si=gwgD69VVZ_JEsUja
The papers on the desk, there are the documents proving it’s true. If you get bored enough to watch it all, you’ll see he has pretty definitive proof. There’s even a clause showing he only gets paid as long as he stays on the clippers.
Pablo tends to run these stories into the ground and do a bunch of follow ups, so I’m sure he has minions going through the reported off the court income of half the league. The NBA took a bunch of draft picks from Minnesota for a hush-hush deal with Joe Smith. and all Minnesota did was promised Joe. They would sign him to a big long-term deal if he signed there on the cheap for a couple years so they would get his bird rights and be able to exceed the cap to pay him. That doesn’t even feel illegal to me. And they lost 5 draft picks.
but that was David Stern. Any chance Adam Silver just goes slap on the wrist?
I feel like the other owners wouldn’t let him. A lot of owners hate Ballmer for being so rich, which was exposed when Jeannie Buss emails linked.
The owners probably won’t let silver go soft.
but if they’re all doing it, maybe they have to downplay it. Pablo won’t let anything go. He got his hands on documents that got the NFL players union president fired, and before that he was so far up Bill Belichick’s ass trying to prove he met his current girlfriend when she was like 18 he ended up renting the Airbnb they stayed in and tried to deny when they got caught on a ring camera… just so we could access the guest book and reviews which confirmed it was her and the date they were there.
he’s one of those people that takes sports journalism too seriously. Watch. He’s gonna turn up some clutch sports dirt somewhere along the way

Typical corruption. It works like that anywhere and it's often more blatant. The owner's reactions will be a dead giveaway if that's the norm in the NBA.

I feel like if they go that route he’s gonna have people looking too hard at it. They’re gonna have to do something and at least pretend to be offended. Apparently stores like this or why he left ESPN for Dan Le Batard’s podcast network. ESPN is too tight in with the leagues so they don’t let you expose as much. Like the collusion case against the owners that went to arbitration. The top espn nfl reporter who apparently is way more embedded than Pablo claims he couldn’t find the documents that Pablo released proving The allegations. But once Pablo released it then suddenly he was on the case.
Pablo still appears on ESPN on PTI as a fill-in, but he’s got enough freedom where he is that he doesn’t really have to answer to anybody. I don’t think silver can make a call and shut him up.
if somebody doesn’t lose 10 draft picks, he’s gonna be sneaking an agent in position behind the scenes somewhere like the KGB did on the Americans to get dirt on how much Dolan is paying Brunson to give up that upfront hundred million

The Joe Smith penalty is one of the main reasons Minnie couldn't win a championship with Garnett. 30 games a year of Kawhi Leonard is definitely not worth this kind of risk. With the things the Clippers have done to keep him around (awful SGA/Paul George trade and now apparently this) you would think he was Mike Jordan or something.
Wondering if they offered anything like this to Paul George or didn't and the decision not to come with the extra compensation led to him leaving. Other owners could also be doing this and just didn't get caught. There are players that would make more than the supermax if the Steve Ballmers of the world weren't constrained by cap rules. And there are also players that have signed for less than their perceived market value.

Always wondered how often this kinda thing happened. Ive heard it hinted at in media free agency pitches for years. So do they suspend Kawhi? Take picks away for some years ? Both? They could fine balmer but it would amount to an ant bite on a whale lol.

Clippers have started fighting back. They called the report “provably false” through one of their mouth pieces.
Kblaze8855
09-03-2025, 11:49 AM
They also got some other sports media types reporting that it isn’t unusual for a team to set up an outside sponsorship and that it’s allowed. It’s probably gonna come down to if they can prove bomber is a secret owner of the tree company. And I doubt they run with it if they couldn’t. There appears to be records showing Ballmer put $50 million into the company which has no use other than paying Leonard because they don’t actually…do…anything.
The no-show Job Sopranos memes are flowing nicely now.

First player To make a snide and possibly inappropriate remark on social media? Anthony Edwards Jeff Teague or Pat Beverly? I feel like most of the active players are gonna keep it quiet. Draymond Green is gonna be asked about it I’m sure. He’s always trying to build credibility for his obvious career in TV coming up next. But I feel like he wouldn’t wanna draw attention to whatever side money curry might have been given when he was the most underpaid player in the league.

I dont think anybody will touch that just to keep their hands clean, especially if its going on elsewhere in the league.

They could fine balmer but it would amount to an ant bite on a whale lol. They should cancel his contract while still treating the cap as if he was on the books and take away five first round picks like they did to Minnie...no, I am not truly offended, I could care less about the manufactured financial pressure owners place themselves under but as a Celtics fan I am fairly bitter about this past summer and imagine things would have been very different if dudes were just getting paid under the table.

Teague's career is over and Beverly is basically done so it's one of them, more likely Teague because he's trying to launch a media career off of saying wild shit. I predict he says the Lakers did this with LeBron.

This is gonna go on for a while. I’m sure the Clippers response is being sculpted as we speak. And possibly the lawsuit.

he went on ESPN and did a full interview to dispute the claims.
And right after he got done, Pablo dropped more paperwork showing Leonard was also signed to a second $20 million side deal bringing the total to 48 million of the 50 they can verify Ballmer gave the company.
He basically got the entirety of the money the Clippers coincidentally gave the company that signed him to the deal that specified he didn’t have to do anything to receive it.
There are reports that the other owners are upset, but only because the clippers should be paying more tax money, which they all break up among themselves. They see it as stealing from the pot.
It’s literally their money. The money he isn’t paying is a direct cash payment into the pocket of the low salary owners.
If there is any punishment, that’s gonna be the reason.

With the amount of evidence Torre is bringing they aren't going to win that lawsuit and I doubt they will even file one, although Ballmer is rich enough to not care about wasting some more millions on a frivolous lawsuit to try and protect his reputation of he thinks it might make the NBA less likely to punish his team.

No one gives a **** about Mark Cuban. Someone should send him a memo. This is him being painfully desperate at attempting to stay relevant.
If Ballmer has the audacity to pull this type of stunt he definitely has the audacity to all in double down on denying it to the grave.
**** Ballmer for taking it to this level and **** Cuban for his half ass attempt at whatever the **** he was trying to accomplish.

Even if he's willing to crank out whatever sium of money it would take to get ESPN, MSNBC and whatever online outlets to get rid of him (hundreds of millions?) He could just find some other outlets that would be glad to have him. Is Ballmer going to keep in paying out these media companies to keep him off? Even if this is possible(some of these companies would not be willing to censor no matter what he offered and are just as rich as him or richer) he's going to have to spend an insane sum of money.

I was trying to think of scenarios where Ballmer could be innocent and the only one I could come up with is this.
That company contacts Kawhi or more likely, his piece of shit uncle and said "sign a bullshit endorsement deal with us, then we'll convince Ballmer to invest x amount of money and we'll give you $7m/year of it and pocket the rest ourselves".
However the part of the contract that said the deal would be voided if Kawhi left the Clippers leads you to believe that the Clips must have been in on it. Kawhi though is lowkey one of the biggest scumbags this league has ever seen.

Yeah, there’s nothing the least bit immoral about taking a side endorsement deal that’s against the rules of your job. He didn’t steal any money. The only people being shorted are the other owners who aren’t getting luxury tax money. And Ballmer is the one doing that not Leonard.
I was actually in a situation years ago where I had maxed out my pay by company rule for a given role. This is maybe 2002. I was supposed to be getting another raise and they called me in to show that the system literally would not let them increase my pay. They showed me the screen and where it was maxed out and the system would not let it increase. I remember thinking”Bitch you better call tech support or something…”.
Anyway I left that job right after that. If there was some mechanism by which they could pay what I was worth off the books in a move that was entirely legal just against the policy of the company? I’m taking every bit of that money. Against Company rules and morally wrong are not the same thing.
Worst case it makes you a liar if you deny it’s happening but being a liar just means you’re a human. Humans have a 100% liar rate so I’m not sure how it would make me any worse of a person.
I don’t care about the rules of any job. Give me my money If it doesn’t risk real world legal problems.

One of the funniest parts about this whole thing is that you had Leonardo DiCaprio, you had Robert Downey Jr., you had Drake—some of the most charismatic communicators in public in our country (Drake notwithstanding these days, but whatever). And the guy making more than four times as much as everybody—including Cindy Crawford, Orlando Bloom, blah blah blah—was the worst of all of the athletes in that regard.
This one stood out to me among all reporting. This is the biggest red flag.

The biggest question is how quickly they can come to at least an initial conclusion.
I'm sure the NBA doesn't want the season to start with this cloud over the Clippers. If Kawhi 's contract is to be voided, they aren't going to want to do that after the season.

No.
Regardless of his motivation, he's directly cheating 29 other teams in the league the right to compete in a fair manner.
The rules of the CBA have been set in place in order to come to some sort of agreement about what the overall best interest of everyone involved is, from the players, the owners, the league and the fans. They are trying to get the most optimal outcome for all parties involved.
If teams and players are circumventing the CBA to their advantage, they are directly cheating the other teams and players and fans. Period. I shouldn't need to go into the weeds on this, you should already be able to see it without it being fully explained.

which of those things do you think pretty much? Everyone in business doesn’t accept money from? Do you think billionaires come to America from Russia and everyone just declines when they want to spend money? You think you weren’t doing business with China when probably half the shit in your house is directly or indirectly sourced from China? You think the people in cartels don’t spend the money on the same things in life non-cartel member spend money on? Everyone is taking the money they have. If they couldn’t spend it virtually everywhere in the world, there would be no point in earning it.
Most of these aren’t a question of if people would do business with them. Everyone’s already doing business with them. The question is the effort you would go to to prevent it.

which of those things do you think pretty much?
Dude you’re typing to a guy who literally thinks about this kind of shit daily. Stuff in my house made in china? Lmao!!!!!!!!!!
My political party is vote with your money, time, and energy.
You literally are like a politician trying to fix any issue that makes a player look bad.
KL looks very ver very very bad in this situation. Especially for a guy who never plays.
KL literally doesn’t play and collects checks he’s the epitome of a beyatch.
Yet here you are sticking up for losers. lol.

If that’s what You wanna call telling the truth to a bunch of Disingenuous types so be it. If you’re gonna give me $50 million and include in the contract that I don’t have to do anything to get the money and it’s a violation of my jobs rules but entirely legal so I face no ramifications outside of what my job thinks? And it’s my boss at work setting up the payment anyway? Of course I would take it.
I strongly suspect every person reading this would take it. I’m not in the business of criticizing people for decisions I would make with no hesitation.
At least I try not to be. I’m not saying I’m not judgmental but I try to limit it to things I couldn’t do myself and feel fine about.

Homie I’m a basic ass fan of a the NBA. Stop with this “what if” nonsense. KL and the Clippers are cheating. Breaking the rules. Point, blank, period end of discussion. And now they are lying or downplaying it. I don’t like that. As a consumer paying for a product you should obviously understand this. It’s not that hard.

I’m genuinely wondering if I were in this situation who am I supposed to feel like I wronged? Every player I’ve seen comment on it has said some version of stop snitching. The players are perfectly happy they get money off the books. They aren’t wronged. Am I supposed to feel bad For the guy who owns the Nuggets and the Rams and an NHL team and Arsenal in England who married the daughter of the founder of Walmart and got even richer with inside information on where the stores would be built that allowed him to buy up the surrounding area and own all those little Mini marts you see spring up near Walmart?
am I supposed to feel like I did James Dolan dirty because his dad left him the Knicks and he’s owed some luxury tax money? Am I supposed to feel bad for Mickey Arison who’s dad founded Carnival Cruise lines and gave him billions? Is there some little guy I’m supposed to feel bad for?
We gonna pretend players should feel bad for the fans of teams they don’t sign with?
Tell me please. If I’m Kawhi Leonard, who am I supposed to wake up and feel like I have personally wronged by taking a no-show endorsement deal my job doesn’t allow that was actually facilitated by my job?
The tycoon most of whom would do considerably worse to get ahead….several of them not even having to earn the position they find themselves in?
Are the Raptors still partially Owned by a teachers union? Maybe you can shoehorn some guilt in there.
I’m really wondering. Let’s say I want to do a 12 step style apology to those I’ve wronged. What door do I need to knock on first? Should I hunt down genie bus and see if She’s been crying into the Scrooge McDuck style pile of money after the $10 billion sale of a team her dad bought?
Where do I begin my apology tour?

So, while judging someone’s morality on the matter of if their actions make them a scumbag, I shouldn’t consider if the actions are those I know would be replicated by People who aren’t scumbags. Or at least aren’t known to be. So basically you just wanna be mad without giving anything any thought. I’ll let you do that. Just seem like you had a legitimate problem I might be able to get to the bottom of. By all means go on about your day.
I just got to a house I’ve had for a while that I’m getting remodeled. Maybe when I’m done some Chinese back corporation will offer me a lot more money than it’s worth and you’ll consider me a scumbag if I take it while you go to your refrigerator produced with 38 parts from China that probably go to the same shadow corporation.
i’m sanctimonious in my ways, but I long ago stopped worrying about the corporate entities behind every little income stream or purchase. You can live in society or don’t.
Or you can live in it and pretend to be above it all while your money goes to the same place everyone else’s does.
There’s no such thing as clean money on a large scale. There’s just money. If I didn’t steal it I’m not gonna feel bad that I have it. If I left it wherever it was coming from, it’s gonna snake his way into hands I wish didn’t have it anyway.
So I’m just gonna look out for me and mine.

What you read is of no Consequence. You care enough to judge someone’s character, but you don’t care enough to give any thought into the validity of it. And I’m fine with that. It’s fairly normal unfortunately. Thought isn’t a prerequisite for hate.

On the follow up Episode Pablo exposed more documents showing that at one point the company was late on a payment of like 1.8 million to Leonard and someone who just happened to be Ballmers college roommate made a $1.9 million deposit into the company after which Kawhi received his late payment.
these people would be so bad at serious crime.
It would be amazing the NBA never caught it except for the fact that Ballmer himself is on the committee that’s supposed to catch it…despite having been caught facilitating a Lexus deal for DeAndre Jordan that got him fined a quarter million for it when he was a new owner.
and silver is out here saying he never even heard of the company despite the fact the NBA claims it was investigating it already before Pablo and the fact that they were making bids in the $300 million range for naming rights to some arenas.
I know they figured there was nobody to catch them because they oversee themselves but goddamn. Get some real criminals in there to run your secret plans by.

Not just his college roommate, the single minority owner of the Clippers. Ballmer owns 99% and David Wong owns like the 1%. This reeks of corruption.

all Minnesota did as I recall was tell Joe Smith if he signed a small short deal they would be able to get his bird rights and exceed the cap to to sign him to a big one. Wouldn’t this be substantially worse?
You think the Minnesota situation was over punished to such a degree this much worse offense should still be punished less?

Just watched the second Pablo Torre video. Smoking gun? This is being caught with blood on your hands, DNA match, video footage.
They're guilty as sin and its laughable how brazenly they didnt cover their tracks. Ballmer's right hand man wiring 2m to a company about to go out of business, who your daughter works for, when Kawhi is imminently owed 1.8m is almost comical.
The Clippers are ****ed. Even that pathetic useless dweeb Silver wont let them get away with this. 29 owners will make sure of that.
Lost some respect for him after this. Maybe that's why he wouldn't just leave that easily anymore.
I just don't find trolls funny sorry.

I felt the number was a bit high myself, but Los Angeles is ****ing gigantic. It’s one of those cities like Houston that is bigger than you can get your head around if you’re used to normal cities. You can be in South Houston be like 70 miles from somebody in North Houston and take two hours to get there. And LA is bigger than that. I read that the Clippers renovated 350 public courts in La already.

It has to be the biggest punishment in league history otherwise the league will be viewed even more of a joke than it already is.
And let's not kid ourselves, there are multiple owners doing this, he's just the first one stupid enough to get caught doing something so incredibly flagrant. But it basically spits in the face of the CBA and renders the whole thing pointless from a competitive standpoint. It's worse than Joe Smith.
