Very respectable of him to do that. Truly.
Went to Cambridge as well.
Haven’t seen the Oxford debates but he lost most of the Cambridge ones IMO. He seemed a little too used to debating Arizona State kids and got a little flustered when the usual pile-drive tactics didn’t hit the same.

As you mentioned in another thread, people have different realities. I don't mind sharing that he changed my opinion on abortion, so to me, Charlie made the most sense every time he talked about that, even though I'm sure a lot of people who's debated him on it felt like they won those.

The older I've gotten the more I've realized educational institutions are all but a complete farce (random social degrees that mean absolutely nothing outside of far left grooming) and they churn out absolute crap human beings with terrible world views and attitudes - often with utterly useless or devoid critical thinking abilities, and no real skills of value. Maybe historically these institutions were good, but in recent decades especially? Garbage. The more prestigious the name the more pompous and out of touch with reality their students, professors and alumni seem to be. Literally gotten to the point where I cringe when I hear people mention they went to some school as if it lends to their credibility. It's a blemish on how I view anyone that came from those systems at this point, only able to be covered up if they speak some sense or demonstrate real value over time. It's certainly no longer a flex.

They started producing shit humans the moment that the federal government got into 100% guaranteed student loans. That immediately incentivized schools and banks to push as many loans as they possibly can regardless if they're good loans or bad loans because they're getting paid no matter what.
As a result for schools, their attendance and thus budgets exploded up and up. And the scam is pervasive. New book editions on the yearly that change two or three paragraphs all so they can sell more books. And the book producers know they can do it too because of the aforementioned. Shit like this.
As usual(not always), government expansion is the root problem. Good intentions with shortsighted, shitty results. Unless there were jews behind it, in which case money and or cultural subversion were the motivation(s). I don't know, but that wouldn't surprise me either.
So it was decades ago at this point that only the best, brightest and most motivated went to college. Now it's just a bunch of morons.
Then you have the advent of the internet and most information is freely available at any time making it even more unnecessary for most people.
College is a scam through and through for probably 90%+ of professions/degrees. There are many professions that still desperately need college students but realize that when I say many, that's still an overwhelming minority of overall jobs.

That's true. For me, I thought the student's argument against the idea of life beginning at conception was one of the best I've ever heard, and it seemed to stump Charlie. He just went into talking about magic with the conception process and didn't have an actual real retort.

The pricing of college is definitely questionable, but the experience is absolutely needed for most people. It’s not a coincidence the top success stories: Bezos, Musk, Zuckerberg, Gates, and Jobs all went to elite schools. If everyone can just navigate the internet for their information then we wouldn’t have fat people either because workout regimens and nutrition information is out there. Personal trainers should all be out of work. We have to accept the fact that people are lazy and undisciplined and won’t look up or apply healthy information. I mean, look at the “what video are you watching right now” thread in otc. Sure, we all need ish and the occasional cat video to get us through the day, but that thread is all a bunch of bullshit. People constantly watching bullshit and not one video that’s teaching a skill that can help you live healthier, make more money etc. Sure, once in a while you’ll have someone who is disciplined enough to start and run their own successful business without it, but those are few and far between. Go to school and actually pick a meaningful major, and get your credentials. Not one rich person telling you school is a scam is telling their own kids not to go, I guarantee you Charlie Kirk would have told his kids to go to college.

Musk says college is overrated and not necessary for success.
Zuckerberg dropped out of college.
Gates dropped out of college.
Jobs dropped out of college.
But hey, I wouldn't expect anything from you other than you letting someone do your thinking for you by showing you a piece of paper with their name on it.
Modern day college is a debt churning machine that lets lazy and stupid employers drastically reduce their pool of candidates so they can likely still hire lazy and stupid employees.
It is true that if you go to college your earning potential is higher over the course of your lifetime, but that's not because you're a better human on the other side. It's for the reasons I just mentioned.
Very few people exit college ready for the job that they take and they still need a boatload of training and hands on experience, that they would already have had they not gone to college.

Obviously if you have the opportunity and financial backing to drop out of school and pursue something better, you do it. The common denominator is that they’re all intelligent enough to get into elite schools, they aren’t 2.8 gpa’ers trying to cope and make excuses. Gates less so, because his family was rich rich; but someone like Zuckerberg who came from a decently wealthy dentist definitely got in on his own merit. And colleges aren’t there to tell you “what to think”. They’re there to offer all different sorts of ideologies and you pick which one you agree with the most, and when you get into the work force your beliefs get either reinforced or challenged by new experiences. That’s all it is. I compared it more to a personal trainer. You start out doing what your trainer tells you to, and once you get a swing of things you can form a workout regimen that you enjoy, works for your goals and within your time constraints. I guess a better comparison will be something like boxing. Let’s take two people who are roughly equally naturally talented, but one trains just 2-3 x a week with a USA boxing certified trainer while the other self learns on YouTube. Who is more likely to win a match in 6 months?
And
It is true that if you go to college your earning potential is higher over the course of your lifetime, but that's not because you're a better human on the other side. It's for the reasons I just mentioned. Is a dumb and subjective argument. You can make that shitty argument for anything you want to argue against, and it offers zero substance. What constitutes a ‘better human’ anyway wtf does that mean? More compassionate? More biblical morals? What?

Understanding how the world actually works, dumbass.
You say that college isn't there to tell you what to think. That used to be true. It no longer is.

College is for networking. If you don't plant to be social in college and leverage the immense networking potential then it's a stupid financial decision. There is no better networking opportunity that exists in today's society than going to a major US school - I'll always recommend it for that reason alone, but only if you have the ability to take advantage.
There are accredited online colleges where you csn graduate in a fraction of the time for a fraction of the cost for those just seeking a piece of paper to get their foot in the door.

Was going to say this. Not really any of my friends got any smarter after college. It did allow them networking opportunities that lead to most being more successful than if they didn’t go though.
One of my dumbest friends makes the most money because he went through the right channels over a long period and now is in acquisition banking. Doesn’t even seem like he’s great at his job but makes 500k a year. They just do conference calls and send power points to different companies and try to convince them why they should merge and let their firm facilitate the process.
It’s pretty dumb tbh. Not even trying to hate or be jealous either. I’ve just seen him work and it seems like they don’t do too much. Maybe the younger interns and analysts that have to crank out a lot of data all night. But once you get past that stage you just double check some high school level looking powerpoints and make a call or two and that’s about it lol.

Which student? The one arguing the states have different definitions from one to the other?

That was me with the different realities in a post aimed at you talking about debates in general and I think most people don't understand that. They live in their reality and the moment they hear a counterargument they deny it and the more they debate the more their hate grows. I think that's one of the biggest issues rn. Look at the microcosm of this board. In general you have three political groups: Rightwingers, centrists and indifferent people and leftwingers.
Any debate on a hot topic usually ends in some disrespectful hating. Up until to the point where people threaten others with violence. Why should it be a surprise if someone in real life follows through?

What’s the point of these debates?
To feel special?
So let me get this straight. Dude made a career of just talking and debating politics? Like any other talking head?
WTF does any of this even achieve besides the outcome we got?
Seriously?

Why do you assume other people are surprised? The left is the party of murder and so many of you are either happy or "not sure" if you're happy that Kirk was murdered.
Maybe you come back and say how right wingers actually commit more political violence and hate crimes, probably per some dumbass study done during Biden years that include prison murders by white nazi inmates or some shit. But no one on the other side of the isle gives a shit anymore about your fake talking points and labelling them a racist isn't going to work again.
