BREAKING: Free agent Al Horford has committed to a multi-year deal with the Golden State Warriors, agent Jason Glushon tells ESPN. After seven of the past nine years in Boston and winning the 2024 title, Horford will enter his 19th NBA season as the Warriors' starting center.

Butler definitely had some moments but if/when they argue about the Heat/Celtics rivalry Horford gets the last laugh because the Celtics ran over the Heat on the way to a championship. Butler can think they win if he plays but he didn't so it doesn't matter.
Horford is also on a lot better terms with the Celtics than Butler is with the Heat. He will likely get his jersey retired soon after he retires. Butler deserves a jersey retirement for dragging them to the Finals but Riley is still pissed about that last season and a half and could be for a long time still. You leave the way Butler did and you burn bridges.
Edit: Thinking about it I am not as sure Horford gets his jersey retired quickly. Is his Celtic career better than Rondo's? No it isn't. Rondo 's jersey may be retired one day but they aren't in a rush to do it. Hmm.

Yea, Horford getting his number retired by the Celtics seems unlikely. :lol

I think it absolutely could be argued that in the last five years including their two finals runs, he was their most important playoff performer.
Youd never know it from the box score and most people probably dont remember, but their most clutch, most irreplaceable player during that span in the playoffs was probably Horford.
I dont know what the criteria is for a jersey retirement in terms of longevity with the franchise or a certain amount of titles or whatever they factor into it. But I do know he was as crucial as anyone on the team in the success they had in this era.
But frankly, by signing with Golden State instead of the Forever King, hes forfeited the right to have his jersey retired anywhere. Hes straight bush league for that. **** him.

If Boston retired Horford's jersey, I would be shocked. Career averages of like 11/7 over 7 years, 1 all-star appearance, 1 defensive team, 1 title as a role player. Pretty basic career. He makes Dennis Johnson seem like a star by comparison. It would basically require that they retire Rondo's jersey too.

Al is one of those guys that just seems to be a good fit anywhere. I dont think he gets his jersey retired but hes a key piece type player for any team that wants to win. Or at least was, the late career years are unpredictable to say the least.

Awesome signing. Guy can space, shoot, defend, is high IQ passing, hustles hard, and has a professional demeanor. Welcome to Golden State Sir Al Horford.

Warriors will be interesting now. Good call wanting to play with Steph rather than with LeTeamKiller. There were rumors about the Lakers making a play for him.
And Axe is a sitnky idiot. :lol

While I like the fact that that GSW front office finally got a big man, it's a day late, a buck short. Once Bjelica was off the team in 2022, they needed those crushing screens again like they got from him, Zaza and Bogut earlier.
So 3 years late.
And in this case, a guy who's in his twilight - at 39. Big men fade faster than future HOF guards.
This squandering of Curry's final years will be a case study one day on how winning leads to hubris and bad habits. Fmr GM Bob Myers and Steve Kerr are the best examples- who doubled down on their philosophy that the leading big 3 were all that mattered, and the rest were all interchangeable parts.
But particularly their mentality that the big man didn't matter. Kerr's own experience was that they won rings with the Bulls with someone like an aging, mostly-useless Cartwright at center so perhaps centers didn't matter; putting too much faith in small ball. But he somehow overlooked that guys like Zaza and Bogut were essential for the Warriors offense, since they wore down the defense with their physical play and screens. Without someone like that, the defense wears down Curry and the offense fades.
When the James Wiseman experiment went sideways, GSW front office just pretended the C position didn't matter. There are other reasons for the Warriors not performing, but this is one of them. The NBA is at a high-level, you need to fire on all cylinders, missing one part, or in this case, getting someone like Horford at his age, won't be enough.

I'm sure with patient reminders for 4 more years about the need to be a 2-way player, it will register with him...

Kuminga is a great example of sunk cost fallacy
The gulping from the glass half full mindset
Can’t pass (not talking about dynamic playmaking just simply swinging the ball to the other side of the court is way beyond him)
Can’t rebound
Can’t defend
Can’t space the floor with his poor 3 point shooting.
Can’t hit free throws
Only area he’s supposedly is good at is iso scoring (where he scores well below league average in TS% efficiency.)
So he’s a one dimensional black hole iso scorer who scores well below league average
He’s legit such a trash player that will never ever ever be a contributing member of a winning team, ever.
The two timeline whiff of Wiseman and Kuminga will forever live in infamy
All that being said I honestly can’t complain. 4 chips in 10 years. Us warriors fans are insanely blessed and not taking it for granted for a second. To be quite honest the warriors could tank for the rest of my days and I’ll die a happy man. They got to the mountain top and came back down and then did it 3x more times. The whole thing is a bit surreal.

And yet.... this is exactly how the 'casual fan' narrative (including the media) around Kuminga works:

Agree with you about being Warriors fans. Whatever legitimate complaints aren't to overshadow what they did accomplish.

No they're not. OKC is clearly and firmly two levels above the current Warriors.
OKC has modern dynasty potential.

I don't know....I'd love to see OKC repeat or three-peat. I really like that team. But the Pacers did take them to 7 games. There's a lot of competition in the league right now. The talent's spread pretty evenly.

I would say most of their struggles was due to inexperience. You saw the 2015 Warriors steamroll during the regular season, but had their struggles in the playoffs vs Memphis & an injured Cavs team in the Finals because of inexperience, we saw what they later became. OKC should be alright now that they have some experience under their belt.

That very well may be. And as far as betting odds go, they're the preseason favorites for a good reason. But they're far from shoo-ins. A lot of competiion this year. And don't sleep on the Knicks, Cavs, Lakers, or Rockets.
