I won’t go into the fact that I think I had about 50,000 posts on the old ISH when he was born and how bothersome that is…

I’ll just say it’s funny how little the players know about even relatively recent history. Of course, knowledge of history is not the same as knowing the game you have to play…it’s just funny.

I don’t think he knew a single person that didn’t play for Dallas at some point.

I won’t spoil the names for you so you can share my…well…not shock. I’m never shocked anymore by such things. But..something. Share my something about this.

I was honestly kind of jolted when he said he was born in '06, I hadn't heard that year yet when hearing about when an athlete or any celebrity was born. What's wild is he was just a few days away from being born in '07, it trips me out we're gonna start to see athletes and other celebrities born around that time.

I have been playing against guts who were born in 2010 and 2011 in our pick up game

That hit me too and it also made it make more sense when he didn’t know tons of dudes. Seemed weird at first but I thought about it and when I was 5 years old I watched hoops and knew TMC and Michael Jordan/Pippen. But my knowledge was basically as deep as NBA Jam rosters. I wouldn’t have known role players like that.

when I got here, Isiah Thomas was a little bit younger than LeBron James is right now. Larry Bird had played more recently, than Kobe Bryant to right now. That era wasn’t like ancient subject matter back then. It felt pretty recent.

Damn thinking about when this board was created and how long I’ve been apart of it.

I doubt anyone here has an extensive knowledge of the NBA from the years before they were born.

I didn't start watching hoops until I was 7-8 and by that time every kid had basketball cards so you knew all the players and teams. I was alive but I would still be clueless about the early-mid 80's unless you were a HOF adjacent guy or you were someone still playing into the 90's. Lol it's not like I can tell you who the starting SF was for the 86 bullets.

If Cooper was born in 06 that means he wasn't watching basketball until around 2012 minimum. Probably wasn't a real "fan" until 2015ish. Not surprised he doesn't know who those guys are even though they are recognizable names to us.

Maybe, I mean I knew every guy listed here. But he is 19, so this is like me knowing players from the late 80s. Not all-stars and even all time greats. I didn't know everyone on the 84 Kansas City Kings or the 86 Pacers.

Not knowing Hedo is crazy.

Why would that be crazy? Hedo never made the All Star team and played on a team played in the south. Cooper is from Maine. I would be surprised if he did know who Hedo was.

It's really not crazy at all, he never made an all-star game and was irrelevant by the time Cooper was 6 years old.

If you aren't a HOFer and/or didn't play with a HOFer, you are probably going to be forgotten throughout history and your name will only ring bells to the generation that saw you play.

Cooper not knowing players from the year he was born is perfectly reasonable.

Bird was retired before I saw an NBA game yet I knew who he was.

Besides, to all the people saying "would you have known the rosters from the year you were born?". Back then we didnt have YouTube or the internet and couldnt just watch highlights/games of every NBA player ever or check all the box scores on basketball reference. It's much easier to know your history now than then.

I was making the point that just because something happened before I was born/too young to remember, it didnt mean I was ignorant of it. I used a high profile player like Bird to overstate that point. I should have known your dumbasses wouldn't get it.

You can apply it to music and movies so why not sport?

You would've had to have used a player equivalent to Ilgauskas to make your point.

And movies and music don't work since you can discover those at any point, absolutely nobody is going to ever watch Ilgauskas highlights or old games of his, also not a good analogy.

absolutely nobody is going to ever watch Ilgauskas highlights.

Nearly half a million people say otherwise :pimp:

Everyone knows Larry Bird regardless of when they were born. Not only was he an all time great he was also a high level coach and executive.

Not everyone would know Bob Dandridge, who was a key player on a title team.

I would have heard of pretty much every All Star that existed in 1996 when I was 5 in hindsight now as I'm older. But being on this forum and watching a lot of old games will do that.

Yeah that's a bad way to present that point. I'm sure he pulled a Kobe card he would have known him. Not knowing Z is like not knowing Kelly Tripucka or someone like that.
