Rockets/Thunder and Warriors/Lakers

They’re having peacock exclusives soon but not first night luckily.

Reggie, Mike Tirico, and Jamal Crawford calling the first game.

Melo, Tmac, and Vince Carter the studio team I suppose they’re trying to turn into Inside the nba.

My excitement isn’t what it used to be but…the intro music might get me back. I still wanna see the Shawn Kemp alley in the video package but I’m sure I won’t. If they’re clever they replace it with the Giannis finals block and lob which looks similar.

I suppose they’re holding Jordan back till the big games after the nfl is over.

I might make a bet or two to increase my interest.

You're like 55 right?

When did you start losing interest in the league? I think when your childhood idols retire and are out of the game the interest starts going downhill but you were such a big fan of the game 20 years ago when all the players you watched growing up were long gone.

Was it something special about the late 90s early 2000s crop of young stars that kept you engaged? And you don't feel that type of way about the newer stars?

Social media have an impact on your interest level going way down?

Opening night...?

Lebron isnt suiting up until around mid November.

The season doesnt legitimately start until then. These are just preseason games that happen to count in the standings.

NBC provided slightly more details on Jordan's role in a release Monday. The network confirmed that Jordan would appear on NBC during halftime of the Houston Rockets-Oklahoma City Thunder game on opening night Tuesday.

Yea my childhood idols were definitely retired long before I started losing interest. It wasn’t one thing, but the biggest individual one was probably when both fans and the players stopped caring about the regular season. Fans were so insistent None of these games mattered till the playoffs. The players started acting like it, and team started focusing entirely on being healthy for the playoffs and that’s part of what sparked the load management trend that made it unreliable as far as being able to look forward to and tune into games and see interesting matchups.

Somewhere in the last few years, I had a crazy run of not being able to enjoy a full slate of national games without two or three of them being ruined by people being out. Not always injured. Just choosing not to play.

It was a weird combo of oversaturation making so many games available and the players and teams not caring about the games giving me so many uninteresting ones it stopped being appointment TV.

The fact that virtually everyone plays the same brand of Largely un entertaining(to me) basketball doesn’t help but load management and injuries probably did the most to take me from watching everything that was on national TV to just checking in now and then.

even tonight. Same as last year’s opening night. Players missing. LeBron has sciatica. It sucks. I know it does. Me and tens of millions of others have had it. What is the kind of thing you take a Cortizone shot for and go about your business as long as you do the appropriate stretches.

it’s not the kind of thing you can make somebody who really cared miss five weeks for. So that’s probably eight or 10 national TV games which I may well still glance at but You know it’s not a real representation of the team you’re trying to watch.

I know ultimately it’s the right thing to do to maximize the length of your career and we definitely missed out on some good ball by plenty of previous players not doing it. A load managing Larry Bird, who looked after his body probably would’ve played against Kobe.

so I’m not saying they shouldn’t do it. I’m saying when other fans, the athletes themselves and the teams are telling me none of this shit matters and the product on the court reflects it? When the NBA has to start making rules and beefing up fines just to get teams to want to give you a good product? Eh.

I have so many other things going on. The NBA is no longer a drop everything because it’s on league.

Has nothing to do with how good the players are. There’s just a lot less to look forward to. And then when you get to the playoffs, it feels like the last two years I’ve been utterly ruined by injuries as well. So it doesn’t look like the load management shit is even working.

All this bullshit and the champs won while the best player on the other team out which came after the favorite to come out of that conference lost with its best player having the same injury. The year before the champion somehow managed to go three straight playoff series without having to eliminate the other team’s best player.

I feel like if we’re gonna do all this load management and reduced minutes and generally less interesting regular season shit, it should culminate in healthy playoff runs, but no.

The NBA has been so consistently disappointing be it unsatisfying playoff outcomes with double digit significant injuries or virtually never getting an intact double header with all the stars playing….

at this point, I watch because it’s just what I do when I’m in front of a TV and basketball is available but I don’t make sure I’m in front of a TV anymore.

they’re letting you live for a week or so but ultimately people getting these apps is the reason the NBA is making so much money now. All the apps need content to justify subscribers. There is way way way more money in 100 million people paying 10 bucks a month than the couple dollars they used to get distributing for each household in a cable model.

They’re all looking to clear $1 billion a month through auto pay forever. That’s what the content race is for. They don’t care if you watch anything in particular. They just have to get those numbers up.

It’s like Costco. They don’t need you to buy anything. They need you to keep your membership.

I think it's around 110 a year for the premium package that includes it live sports. Might be worth it if there's any other non-nba sports on there you might also want, Plus just a few TV shows

I would do some weekly basketball content online to be included with the Peacock pay package IF the price is right, but I cant just be giving away stimulating content that keeps people engaged in the product without the appropriate compensation ya know?

If you haven't started to lose interest in professional sports period to some degree by some point in your 30s, whether that is early mid or late, whatever, then there's probably something wrong with you.

Teens and early 20s have little to nothing going on in their lives and they hold an extremely naive world view so it's only natural that they would be much more passionate.

This checks out a tbh. I think what’s carried me through that period is being fans with groups of life long friends and everyone kinda eggs eachother on to an extent. Tbh I would be much more checked out if it wasn’t for that aspect. It seems extreme but it turns into a bit of keeping up appearances but after you do it it does seem worthwhile and rewarding.

Well again, I get that people really want my hot takes and analysis and all that... I guess if you guys really want you could drop me like a few hundred bucks thru paypal (vxsandman@gmail.com) and I'd make regular threads here and even do some video content about what I'm seeing throughout the league at least up until Christmas. And then we could discuss numbers for the remainder of the season at that point. It doesnt have to be all one person, you could all throw in like 50 bucks each or somethin.

I dunno, it's up to you guys. I'm open to it. Whatever works.

Definitely but it goes to other sports as well. There are days where I’m busy and over it and could skip the Niner game but I’ll watch with friends or if I’m at home
Talk and text or bs with people the next day about the game. My lifelong warriors fan friends are still in a state of shock how things unfolded. We trudged through so many years of some very bleak stuff. If someone told us 20 years ago we were gonna draft a Kobe Bryant type player and win 4 championships we would have all died of laughter. Tbh it still hasn’t sunk in with us fully. But we are still happy we joke about how Warriors could lose every single game until the day we die and we are still playing with house money at this point.

It's nice, I just wish they updated that NBC sound a little more. Same elements, just a bit different. It's been the same for over 30 years now.

That sound is kinda similar to the NBA on CBS sound from the 80's, NBC just updated it to sound a bit better during the 90's.

Kblaze8855

It does. I remember reading that the nba was negotiating for 1 percent of all legal bets placed on the games and finding out that would be a huge revenue bump but I don’t know if it happened or not. They’re definitely gonna get enough to make up for any reduced ratings long term once California, Texas, and Florida legalize it for online. You’re legit gonna see 100 million a year Supermax deals.

Eh..

The three man team of Vince-Mac-Melo isn't that great. Vince is okay but the other two are horrible. Melo couldn't even be bothered to wear a suit lol. Looked like he came from his podcast.

Also, Jamal Crawford? I have no idea how he's been able to become a full time media guy. He's terrible, both in studio and in booth. Yet somehow he keeps getting these high profile jobs.

Sengun hasnt been a threat from 3 so far in his career, 27% on low volume. If he suddenly starts making 3s that will be huge for a team which lacks shooting.
