Iverson isn't a thug in any way shape or form. He's just a wannabe!

Someone like Kenyon Martin or Bill Laimbeer will qualify as one.

You don't even know what happened with this.

What makes AI a thug? Does wearing expensive clothes and having tattoos make you a thug? I really don't think so. Just because AI is true to his roots some people label this thuggish behavior.

I really don't think that makes you a thug.

1993

A highly publicized incident that almost jeopardized his college career involved in a racially-charged fight at a Hampton, Virginia bowling alley. On February 14, 1993, Iverson and several of his friends became involved in a racially-charged altercation with a group of white teenagers. During the fight, Iverson was accused of attacking a woman and hitting her in the head with a chair. He, along with three of his friends, also black, were the only ones arrested in the incident. Iverson, 17 years of age at the time, was convicted as an adult of the felony charge of "maiming-by-mob" and received a 15-year prison sentence (10 years suspended).

This incident was profiled on the television newsmagazine 60 Minutes due to claims of racial bias in the adjudication of the case. L. Douglas Wilder, at the time Governor of Virginia, became convinced that Iverson had been treated unfairly and controversially granted Iverson clemency, releasing him from his sentence. Iverson's conviction was later overturned on appeal.
[edit]

1997

Iverson was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon and for possession of marijuana. He pleaded no contest and was sentenced to community service.

2002

Iverson allegedy threw his wife Tawanna out of the mansion during a fight. The following night, an enraged Iverson later went looking for his wife at his cousin's apartment. His cousin wouldn't let him in(Iverson was the one who paid the rent for the house).According to the police report, Iverson repeatedly threatened to kill his cousin Charles Jones and Jones's roommate while showing them a semiautomatic gun. Iverson was arrested and charged with 14 different counts. All charges were ultimately dropped after conflicting testimonies from witnesses.

2004

During the latter part of the 2003-2004 season, Iverson bristled under the disciplinarian approach of the Sixers' new head coach Chris Ford. This led to a number of contentious incidents, including Iverson being suspended for missing practice, fined for failing to notify Ford that Iverson would not attend a game because he was sick, and refusing to play in game because he felt "insulted" that Ford wanted Iverson to come off the bench as he worked his way back from an injury.[4]

On February 24, 2004, Iverson, a noted regular casino patron, was spotted at Bally's Park Place in Atlantic City urinating in a trash can in full view of staff and patrons. He was told by casino management not to return.[5]

When the 2004 United States Olympic team gathered in Jacksonville, Fla., for its first exhibition game, Allen Iverson was late. He was suspended for the game.[6]

2005

On December 9, 2005 after the Sixers defeated the Charlotte Bobcats, Iverson paid a late-night visit to the Trump Taj Mahal. After winning a hand at a three-card-stud poker table, Iverson was overpaid $10,000 in chips by a dealer. When the dealer quickly realized the mistake and requested the chips back, Iverson refused and a heated head-turning argument between him and casino staff began. Atlantic City casino regulations reportedly state that when a casino makes a payout mistake in favor of the gambler, he or she must return the money that they did not legitimately win by playing.

No you really don't understand, at all, its not that his actions in real life are different from his actions in basketball, is thats when his actions are looked at in comparison to NBA players they are thugish, however when look at in contrast to other people they would not be.

Thats what this thread is about, who is the thug of the NBA not who is the thug of the NBA who for some reason also has to be a thug when compared to the much lower standards set on other people.

He said compared to other NBA players he is thugish? Is that false, i don't think so.

He then said compared to the general population he is really not that thugish? Is that false, i don't think so. So whats your point here, how was he wrong?

What I'm trying to say is; compared to the other dudes in the NBA, he's as close to a thug that you'll get, but if you go put him out there with your regular thugs on the street, he doesn't measure up to them when it comes to being a thug (i.e. drug dealing, shootings, robberies)

my original intent was to limit it to on court behavior

thug=a person whose primary role is to be physical and do "enforcement" duties for his team

to me, a thug is different from a dirty player (eg laimbeer); or an out of control action (artest in the stands); of any off court behavior (iverson); or any one time punch (k. washington)

i am a lifetime sonic fan-- danny fortson's main role was to enforce and play physical

but if i am to give a vote for a current player-- potapenko comes to mind

there r a few video clips made by someone called yinka dare contain almost every major fight in the nba for the past 20 years. go download those and check out the action, it is entertainment in its ultimate form. you will see some rare stuff like jordan slapping miller, dr J jabbing bird, instant classics like raged camby accidently landed a punch on his then coach van gandy; funny ones like shawn bradly got lifted by some guard and barkey jumping up to knock down a game mascot.

I think that AI has done some bad stuff in his life, but things that he does get blown way out of proportion.

When he was 17 and there was the fight in the bowling alley the only reason that he got in trouble was that he was a high profile black athelete.

There was a reason that the governor later pardoned him. Look it up.

although a rough player, once the opponant was riled up, laimbeer stepped back and was a dramatic innocent. he had this down to a science and knew exactly what he was doing

Former Boston Celtic of the late 50s and early 60s, Jim Loskotoff was on the roster strictly to be a thug on the court similar to the goon of hockey teams past. if a player got hot Auerbach in one of his psychological ploys would tell Loskotoff to go out and mug the player, he was a 6ft 5 gorila that looked the part, I mean he put the ugggg in ugly. He looked like that ruff neck thug in the Godfather 1, Luca Brazi, the Don's number one strong man.

I never saw it but I've heard old-timers say in Wilt's rookie year he was destroying Russell so Red sent in Loskotoff to ruff Wilt up a bit and after a hard foul Wilt picked him up by the chest with one hand and told him never to do that again, and he never did.

One of the most hard nose players who would never back down and who would have players bigger and heavier than him bounce off him like a rubber ball against a handball court wall was Paul Silas, what a rebounder, he was the key to the Walton led Trailbalzer's glory years, when Bill gets on a roll he will talk marvels about him. Paul also served as Lebron's father in the beginning.

One of the toughest guards built like a fireplug was no-nonsense Al Attles who was with both the Philly and SF Warriors before become a coach for the Golden State edition

The big money made by the players today have eased tensions between them, there's too much lovey-dovey going on before games among opposing players, they are too soft in attitude. The Lakers and the Knicks or Celtics or other rivals never fratenized in the past, there was genuine dislike, now both teams have dinner and party together before and after games.

Many dont know this, but primo is a for hire assasin, and a contractible hit man. Playing basketball as a cover up in europe, Primo worked for the Russian Mafia carrying out needed hits within game areas. On the side he ran an illegal gambling and prostitution ring. Primo was eventually brought into the crime family known as the Indianapolis Pacers, where he sat on the bench and conducted security and other illegal activities, like physical and verbal threatening of refs players and fans. (This is in fact how the pacers got to the ECF so many years.) Primo eventually found Christ Jesus and resigned from his life of crime in lue of better, freer life. Sho yo right, my bad....I goofed on the Walton end of the post, Mo Lucas was the enforcer, similar player to Silas. Just like the Big Red, I toked too many Panama Reds in the 70s, it has taken its toil.
,
If "Downtown" Freddie Brown would've played against the Lakers or as he did against the Lakers in all of his other matches he would be in the Hall of Fame and a Top 100 NBA player. He was the number one Laker killer throughout the 70s, I dispised him for beating us so much

Don't forget how well my El Lay homie Dee Jay Johnson played in the rematch series against the Unseld, Chenier(what a shooter), Big E Hayes, Dandridge etc led Bullets that they lost to the year before in part die to Dennis' poor play. Primo "The hitman" Brezec:

Why?

Many dont know this, but primo is a for hire assasin, and a contractible hit man. Playing basketball as a cover up in europe, Primo worked for the Russian Mafia carrying out needed hits within game areas. On the side he ran an illegal gambling and prostitution ring. Donnie Walsh with ties to the Russian Mafia and black market, contacted primo on several occasions for interests outside of basketball. Requesting a trade, Primo was surprisingly picked up by the Charlotte bobcats in an expansion draft. We all know the story from there.

Some how I see Charles Oakley being in prison if he never made it to the NBA. I can just see him roaming a prison yard looking for someone to shank.
