I'm not really hardcore into FPS... but Call of Duty 4 is the franchise's best installment to date. Good game. Better than I expected.

I have beat first 6 or so missions. I started playing single player and that is really the high point of this game. Why should you have to unlock modes to play?

No smart ass. Like SOCOM, when everyone dies, the rouynd is over and team with last man/men standing wins that round. Best way to do it. I love SOCOM. If Confrontation delivers I might have to trade in my 360 for a PS3.

Once you rank up to level 12, you get a lot of other modes where you only have 1 life per round (like search and destroy). If you don't have the patience to get to level 12, then that's pretty sad.

Theres a mode called Search and Destroy... put more than 20 minutes ino the online game and you might actually unlock it and play no respawn games! Wow what an idea.

And Im with you on Socom. That was a great franchise. I spent many sleepless nights playing clan matches on Socom 1 and 2. But Socom 3 ruined the franchise for me, so I wont be getting Socom 4 or even getting hyped for it.

But Call of Duty 4 is better than Socom 1 or 2 ever was. Less cheating and glitches than that game.

None of COD's have a bad single player campaign. It's honestly their best feature.

But for multiplayer, definitely try Black Ops 2 (arguable as good as the 3 games you mentioned) but stay away from Ghosts (flat out boring) and Advanced Warfare (chaotic, unbearable)

Totally agree on Advance Warfare. Lot of people seemed to be on board initially with all the fast movement options, but I think the vertical mobility kinda broke the gameplay.

COD4 is still the best, but I probably played the first Black Ops the most. Some good times playing with other ISHers.

All 4 are epic though; Ghosts, AW, and looks like BO3 (with its futuristic bullshit) has completely ruined the series for me.

I'd say World At War is 5th best.
They need to go back and do something about the Cold War.

The cods were great until mw3. I barely even remember black ops 2 and after ghosts(horrible) I didn't get advanced warfare. I'm thinking about trying this black ops 3 though.

I still have and remember playing the original Call of Duty... which was a PC only World War 2 game based off an intensely modified version of the Quake 3 Engine. And Call of Duty was actually just copying off the World War 2 FPS formula set by Medal of Honor: Allied Assault from a few years prior, also a PC-only game that was also based on a modified Quake 3 Engine.

COD4 came out at a time when console first person shooters were legitimately starting to take ground on PC games due to the cost of PC's and the acclimatization of console gamers to first person shooters based on the success of games like Golden Eye, followed by Halo, and the pressure companies had to make their games on consoles due to PC pirating. The fact that COD4 was released on console and PC at the SAME TIME was a shock to me, being that Call of Duty to me, seemed like a PC platform series.

At about that time I had built a 3,700 dollar computer to play games like Crysis, COD4, etc with full surround sound and 1080p with insane frame rates. But then about a year in my 1,000 dollar video card took a shit, my hours (and money) got cut out from under me at my job, so I couldn't replace it except for some shitty 100$ replacement.

I then stopped gaming entirely, realized cost is exactly the reason why hardly anyone keeps up with PC games despite their vastly superior horsepower and potential graphics. And I started doing real sports, getting into basketball, and with the remaining several thousand dollar computer parts still functioning I dived into editing and collecting basketball YouTube videos with all my new found time spent NOT playing games. But I had grown up playing computer games particularly first person shooters since Doom was a "new" game. I remember playing Quake when it first came out. The original Quake. First true polygon 3d first person shooter ever. I still think first person shooters are ONLY comfortable to play on a pc. On consoles, it's just awkward you can tell that the first person shooter was born with the intent of using a computer keyboard and a mouse for control.
