I've heard lots of good stuff about the Wire, so I finally gave in and watched an episode. Well, I was greatly disappointed. It was boring, "the story" kept moving away, going to something different, then popping back to "the story."

By the end of the episode, I didn't know what happened. Maybe I caught a bad episode, but from what I watched, I didn't care for it to greatly.

I've never seen it. But from what I've heard it's a show that you have to watch from the beginning and in chronological order to gain a full understanding. Each season is like a book with each episode being a chapter.

I felt the same way, I watched the first 2 and fell asleep halfway through the 2nd. I gave it another shot then watched the first 4 seasons in like a week and a half after that. It is hard to digest all the stories at first, but then you appreciate all the diverse characters and points of view later because it allows you to look at every single angle.

You watch one episode and conclude its overrated when in fact its one of the best tv shows on television that accurately depicts Bmore. Funny

Watch Season 1-4 before 5. It all ties in...you'l be lost if you watch later seasons.

Yeah, I have been watching the wire since the beginning...When someone I talk to tells me they heard it was good but has never seen it, i tell them to start from season 1 before you get into it...i even let them borrow my dvd sets.

The Wire is not like The Office or Curb ... like others said, you have to know the background of the characters to understand most of it. If you're just now starting to watch, don't bother unless you're going to go back and do your homework.

I don't see the logic in claiming something is overrated when you haven't given it a fair assessment. If anything, The Wire is the most underrated show in television history b/c it doesn't have the following it deserves. To me, it takes a very intelligent fan / viewer to really understand that show; the complex story is genius, b/c it's so damn real.

the reason why you were disappointed is because you started watching the show in season 4 or 5 in the middle of it....its one of those show you have to watch from the very first episode....I would give it another shot....I think its a really good show..

Barack stated that The Wire is indeed his favorite show.

I've already seen the first 7 episodes (out of 10) of the 5th and final season. Damn good.

I'm patiently waiting for Comcast On Demand to put next week episode up. WTF is taking so long. :banghead: I'm like a crack fiend on the show.

You may have to contact your cable company so they can resend the signal to your cable box.

Episodes 5,6 and 7 are available via torrent sites:

The wire is dope

and quite frankly its the most underrated series on TV!

but is not a series you can just jump right in the middle of you'll be lost!
Season 4 is dope but you have to watch from the first episode of that season on down. It is definitely like a book where characters and storyline's have to be built. Its not something that in every episode they're going to try to make something climatic happen. That's not how the Wire works, they making the series and realistic as possible. The thing that makes the wire special is they cover the hood from all angles and its designed to give you multiple angles of insight from how each relative party deals with the same issue's that plague that environment. Its more of a fictional documentary heavily based on reality.

But if your looking for action thinking it's some thugged out sht your best bet is to start with season one. However like I said before they built characters and story lines. So every episode your not going to something pop off, that's not what the wire's about.

This is how I would rank the seasons 1-4.

Season 3 > Season 1 > Season 4 > Season 2

With the way Season 5 has gone thus far, my final rank would probably have Season 5 in between Season 1 and 4.

Alot of Bootleggers have the hole season so keep an eye out.

Season 4 was off the chain
but I realize now the wire be having you so antsy to see what happens next I can't be waiting the a full week for the next episode to pop. I gotta spend a whole week and what it all the way through. Once you get sucked in you be feenin for the sht.

If you have HBO on Demand, you probably could?

If you have the cash, I'd suggest just buying all the series on DVD.

C'mon this is not the type of TV series where you can just pick one episode and expect to know what is going on. This ain't like Full House or anything. You HAVE to start from Season 1, Episode 1 and move from there. First time I watched it, I didn't feel the first episode. Didn't try watching it again until about 6 months later. I love it that time. I was WTF was I thinking sleeping on this for so long. Easily one of the best shows on TV. So sad that this is the last season.

Like everyone has already said, it needs to be watched from the 1st season to get what is going on and to get used to the style of the show.

another great show - Dexter.
