No, not yet at least. Does hair loss happen early in your family?

how much hair are you losin? how bad is it? pretty much all guys lose some hair around their mid 20s, receding and thinning out, but i dont think they all end up bald

I am under the impression that if you don't show any visible signs by your mid 20s, then you are good to go, correct? It seems like most people who are genetically predetermined to go bald show the signs early on. I can't think of many people who start rapidly losing hair when they are already in their 30s. Or maybe I'm wrong.......
I'm not losing any hair...at most I have grey hairs that can be visible especially when I need a haircut. Just asking because i know someone my age who has been going bald for 2yrs...like the top/back portion of thier head. He claims its from wearing hats all the time. Which could be true but still thats gotta be embarrassing to lose hair or be balding at an early age.

i'd say it's crap, how can anyone lose hair from wearing or not wearing a hat?
it stinks, but there is hardly anything one can do about it...there is a guy here who's playing for local football team i'm fan of, he's my age (20) and he's nearly completely bald

Losing hair from wearing hats is a myth. I mean, yeah, if you wear your hats really tight, perhaps you could, but if this were true, most mlb players would probably be balding.
Yeah, it would suck to go bald at a young age, though, because then you spend your whole life with people thinking that you are older than what you really are.

I knew a dude that was going bald in high school. I felt bad for him, people used to make fun of him a lot. He looked like Clyde Drexler in '91.
I wonder if -primetime- will chime in. He's losing hair.

I take after my dad so I likely won't go bald. I'll have a full head of hair, but I'll be waaay behind on salt and pepper by the age of 40.

It's true. Unless you've shaved your head or something, the hat will pull back on the roots of your hair, and you will experience some hair loss. Over time it becomes more dramatic. That and constantly having the hat on your head means sweat and dirt gets trapped under their, f'ing with your hair folicles.
When I started my current job, I started wearing bandanas, because a lot of the sites I work at you have to wear a hard hat, and its better to wear a bandana that I can wash, then soaking up sweat in the sweatband of my hardhat and having it smell like a$$.
I haven't been working here that long, and I've noticed my hair is thinning in the front. I have no problems with it growing or anything like that, but I know that in time, I will probably start to have a receeding hair line.
I'm not sure I'd look right with a shaved head, so I will probably forgo the bandanas unless I KNOW I'm going to be working on a hardhat site.
Oh, and according to what I remember from biology back in high school (long time ago), if you want to know if you're going to lose your hair from genetics, look at your uncle on your mother's side, because supposedly it is your mother who carries the gene for baldness. If your uncle on your mom's side is bald, or receeding, chances are you will to.

Another myth about going bald/losing hair is the wear of cornrows or ponytails. Snoop Dogg, Allen Iverson, ect have been wearing these hairstyles for years yet I don't see any losing their hair or with receding hair lines.

yes it's a myth. along with using hair products as well.
baldness occur when a hair root dies. it is under the skin.
there is no set timeframe for everyone. baldness is not associated with old age. 20 somethings can recede as fast as anyone.
look at mj, he was receding by his 3rd year

There's a guy in my Sport class, who's 17 and got a receeding hairline. However my Grandad who is 72, still has a full head of hair, barely lost any. Just goes to show that it doesn't really matter what age you are.

i got f*cked with the genes i got. Everyone on my dad's side has a lot of hair, my mom's brother has hair, and some how mines already gettin thinner. I have no f*cking idea where this came from. Maybe my grandpa was bald or somethin. First some of my front went blonde, and now a lot of that is gone.
i guess i'm just gonna have to get used to it.

Tight clothing will cause some hairloss. Anyone who wears high socks or knows someone who does can attest to no hair on your legs. My dad wears pretty high socks every day and most his shins are bare. A tight hat would contribute to some balding I'm sure.

I'm pretty sure it starts to go, on average, somewhere in the 18-22 years...and just gets progressively worse over time. I know a lot of younger dudes that have lost a lot of their hair....isn't it something like 1/3 of dudes will eventually lose it? I guess you just pray that you luck out.
I'm not terribly worried about it, though, I look okay with a bald head...been there...done that....didn't hate it. I will guarentee one thing, though....if it happens....I'm not going to be one of those idiots that hangs onto every last strand. Once it starts to get noticeable....I'm going Mr. Clean on the world. Even if you're damn ugly and can't pull off the baldness....don't hold onto those last strands....it is never a good look.

It's very natural to start losing your hair when you are over 40 yrs.old, so dont' be surprised if one day you would be having a hair transplant.
my wife and kids tease me that i'm going bald. ever since i've started buzzing my hair it's looking thin. i don't care if i go bald anyway though.

My uncle once had a surgery where he had hair removed from his back and placed on his head. Not sure I would go to all that (expensive) trouble. I would probably just say to hell with it and shave it off.

I started receding when I was in college. My hair was long, and hung over into my face, so you couldn't tell. I didn't realize until I cut it.
Mine is just the receding hairline type, sort of like young Bruce Willis. I don't have any signs of the spot on the back. Which I think would bother me more.
It's not really a big deal to me. I can pull off the shaved head.

There has to be some kind of good Hollywood method. Actors like Steve Carell and Vince Vaughn had a LOT less hair 8-10 years ago.

anyone else found that funny?
its not that going bald is something horrible. but its funny when people try to hide it. don't know if gobb really is the one going bald or not, but that struck me as sort of like 'this friend of mine has this problem' kind of question.
if you inherit baldness from your mom, then its on your x chromosome. then that means that if your mom's dad is bald, you have at least a 50% chance of going bald. if your mom's brother is bald, then that means you have at least a 25% chance of going bald. if both your mom's dad and her brothers are bald, then you have at least a 75% chance of going bald.
my mom's dad is bald. but her brother has hair. i have about a 50-50 shot that i'll keep my hair. so far so good and i'm keeping my fingers crossed. if it happens, then i'll just shave. did it for 8 years while in the army. but now that i'm out and have grown my hair out, i'm starting to like em a little long. especially in the cold.

My hair has started to grow back very slowly the last couple of years and I have stumbled on a 2 or 3 of grey hairs. My dad went bald at a very early age so I guess I probably will also.

It doesn't matter if your dad is bald or your moms dad is bald or you have an uncle that is bald. Once you have that gene, there's a good chance you'll lose hair. The majority of caucasian males lose hair. Ans people can start losing hair when their in their teens even. Age doesn't matter. I see guys all over my college campus with a ton of hair loss.

Most guys from 18+ start to recede a bit. Some stop right there, it's called a "mature hairline." Many continue to lose hair, some slowly, some aggressively. Hairloss is hereditary in my family and I'm vain as heck so I'm taking things to combat it right now.
