Some girls may be deemed 'fine' by the masses, but when you get to know them, their appearance adapts. For instance, when you get to know a physically beautiful girl, her personality can actually have an effect on the way that you perceive her looks (positively or negatively). This has happened in more than a few cases for me.

On the other hand, a girl that may not be the most physically attractive at first can become beautiful when you get to know them.

Anyone that has been involved in mature relationships can relate to this premise.
