LoL...i used to love Are you afraid of the dark! watched it every friday....even the intro was creepy. They had some episodes that freaked me out ( i was much younger) and had some crazy twists.
Goosebumps really sucked as a show but i used to read the books. I liked them but the show was just too cheesy

Goosebumps was lame.
One episode of AYAOFD was effing scary. Some freakishly pale faceless creature was in one episode. Just a face no eyes or features. Scary stuff.

The episode of AYAOFD with the quiksilver guy and the spoon and the girl was using a metal spoon instead of a silver spoon. That one freaked me out the worse.
Man, I miss nickelodeon so much.
Good topic. I never got into the goosebumps books partly b/c I was too busy reading hardy boys and the beverly cleary books. Saw a couple of the episodes and the only one that sticks in my mind is the one where a girl buys a mask and wears it and stays on her face for life.

They were both good. I watched Goosebumps more till I got nickeloden. They used to hype up new episodes of goosebumps so much they'd put new episodes on on friday nights, then when show started to get old they put them back on sat mornings. What happened to cartoons just being on sat mornings, like new episodes, miss the 90s.

How did I miss this thread??? Best thread of the year so far.
I'm not sure how I can pick one over the other here. Theyre' both so similar, yet entirely different. I guess I would have to pick Are You Afraid.. just because it isn't so "kiddy", I guess you could say, doesn't always wrap up all nice and neat at the end of every episode. It was creepier. But I actually have fonder memories of Goosbumps. I'm torn! I liked the Goosbumps episode where the family goes to like a theme park or something, and there's a bunch of monsters there, they kidnap them, etc. Good stuff, very creepy.
Also, did anyone else really enjoy the choose your own destiny Goosbump books?

SNICK FTW!!!
Clarissa Explains It All, Pete and Pete, Ren and Stimpy, Are You Afraid... OMG, I miss my childhood. Rocko's modern life, Aaaah! Real Monsters, I could list 25 classics.

Goosebumps had some scary ass episodes. 3 I remember are the one on Halloween where the kid puts on the mask and it gets stuck on his head or something and starts to take him over? Another is the lawn gnomes that come to life. Another, the scariest of them all, was the dummies that came to life.
I watched AYAOTD as well but I really can't remember many episodes from it. It had a freaky opening though.
Night of the Living Dummies: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_7HsKG798A
Gonna watch that right now.. still probably gonna freak me out to this day.

AYAOTD was pure greatness. I was young when it used to come on, around 5or 6, maybe younger. The intro always messed with me, especially the rocking chair and the clown. Goosebumps was good, also, but AYAOTD was on another level. I really dig the episode with the killer clown who follows the boy home from the circus, and the comic book guy who got out of the book. AYAOTD is an all time fav of mine.
Edit; Intro http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jitg-3xbmKU
Completly forgot about the laughing kids. Nick has really regressed in content. This show would never come on todays Nick.

Yeah, I've looked everywhere for that episode. Watched it a few months back. I think YouTube may have removed it(again), but it's one of the best episodes AYAOTD had.

I have never seen Are You Afraid Of The Dark so Goosebumps FTW.
The Goosebumps books were great and they always have something very interesting or scary at the end of every chapter. I remember in elementary I couldn't put those books down. R.L. Stine is a genius. The t.v. shows are also great and I'd watch it if they played it often. I love the t.v. show.

Goosebumps for reading
Dude right here sums it up perfectly for me.
Though while most Goosebumps episodes weren't that frightening considering it was on at the time kids would be getting home from school (well here in England anyway), some of them were a bit like 'damn, that's gonna give the scared kids some nightmares for weeks!'.
