Cause discussion isn't possible if the proper response to disagreement isn't to talk about it. Nowadays the proper response to disagreement is to leave a negative rep that the person will never see and that won't affect them. People give negative reps for awfully stupid reasons. I got once that said "u try to hard to be funny but fail every time." Also, I get them for suggesting that people use the OT forum for stuff that has nothing to do with basketball. Realistically, though, kwaj should probably have the highest rep. Pretty much everyone likes him whether he's posting hoops or making goofy threads. I come down on less knowledgeable posters a little too often to have that good a rep.

People who try to give you negative reps just because your opinion doesn't match up with theirs usually already has a bad rep and wont count against you. I usually just give out negative reps to people who spam and spew out retarded garbage. If I give out positive reps to people it's usually to people who are nice about their posts and people who make good discussion.

Just thinking aloud, but I think for a system like this to work, there would need to be more "positive reinforcement" than "negative reinforcement". People need to give props more often and to more members, so they in turn do the same, etc (at least where its deserved). The good posters would arise from the bad and have more "power" I guess. Giving out neg reps all the time only makes people want to do the same I'm sure.
