HOUSTON -- Minnesota Timberwolves guard Gerald Green tells FOX 26 Sports he has been traded to his hometown Houston Rockets for guard Kirk Snyder and a second-round draft pick.

Green, in his third year in the NBA, went to Gulf Shores Academy High School in Houston. He was drafted in the first round out of high school by the Boston Celtics.

"It's like a dream come true. Never in my life did I think this would happen," Green said. "I am on cloud nine."

Green was traded by Boston to Minnesota in that blockbuster deal involving Kevin Garnett.

He won the Slam Dunk Title in 2007 and was runner-up in 2008.

He probably is loving that if true...That's his home city...He'd have to buy 70 tickets a night just for his family.

I hope he does well. Going home isn't always the best thing in the world for a young kid with a lot of money all of a sudden.

His being traded for Kirk Snyder is ironic. They're almost the same guy at this point. Athletic wings with decent jumpers and no sense to go along with it. Snyder's 4 years older or so though. I still think Green could work out someday, at least at the Deshawn Stevenson level.

Celly (Houston): Any truth to the rumors of Houston trading Kirk Snyder and a pick for Gerald Green of Minnesota?

Chad Ford: (2:57 PM ET ) Sounds like there is some truth to that ... Green to Houston for Synder and second round pick. Is Green's value really that low?

Chad Ford: (2:58 PM ET ) Well ... that's the big trade of the day folks! Sorry we don't have more confirmations. I have to stop the chat now. Check back with ESPN.com over the next few hours to find out whether Ben Wallace is a Cav or still a Bull

:party:Welcome home Gerald Green!!! We basically got his potential for free. It doesn't hurt to get another guy that can attack the basket. Sadly, he's probably our best penetator now. Reminds me a lot like T-Mac: out of high school, jumps out the roof, pretty looking jumper, skinny and questionable attitude.:oldlol:

That is a steal, kid only just turned 22. 2 years removed from his prom he was putting up 10/3/1 pts and 38% from 3 in less than half a game (22 minutes).

You can't tell me this couldn't wouldn't be a perfect fit next to Kidd.

Really happy about this one. One of my favourite players now on one of my favourite teams. Hopefully this will rejuvinate him and with Bonzi gone, he could be seeing some half decent minutes. Though of course he's bound to get more time than he did at Minnesota.

Pretty good trade to get Green for someone we never have in the rotation other than garbage time. Green will hopefully fit in system and make an alright impact. I'm curious on how The rotation will change now with Bonzi gone and Jackson and Green in.

Gerald Green can be useful in Rick Adelman's system. He can use his atletism in offence system.

TMac&Luther
02-21-2008, 08:06 PM
I like this trade......Adelman has shown he can develop talent and his system is very player friendly where athletic energetic players can make a impact.....I'm curious to see how this turns out.

good trade, might mess up chemistry though.

Done_And_Done
02-21-2008, 08:13 PM
Somebody seriously needs to give this kid a decent chance to expand or develop his game and I believe Adelman might just be the guy to do so...
The fact that Houston packaged in a 2nd rounder with Snyder goes to show that this wasn't just a salary based deal and more so an investment than anything. Who knows, maybe this jump to Houston might be the final stop before GG blossoms into the player that was so excessivley hyped prior to being drafted...

good trade, might mess up chemistry though.

:oldlol: 22 YOs that aren't proven and are at the bottom of NBA rosters don't "mess up chemistry", they pack their bags and are told to go home if they don't mind their Ps and Qs..

There is absolutey 0 chance of Green messing with chemistry on this veteran driven team.

I'm glad to see G on a team that is willing to give him a chance (not saying that he never had a shot in Minnie but they clearly gave up on him when they didn't take up the option for next season). He's got a coach that's good at using scorers and gets to learn from his idol. This is about as good as he could hope for.

Strengths: Has as much rise as anyone in the NBA, a terrific athlete, and is a good shooter.
Weaknesses: Not much of a dribbler, doesn't understand offense or defense at the NBA level of complexity.

He could become a 20+ ppg scorer and a great defender, but that's only if he starts developing at a rate he hasn't been developing at. My guess is that he one day will become a good scorer but may never fully realize his potential as a defender.
