I just recently got glasses and I don't feel comfortable having them on at all - I want to get contacts, but my friend told me that they're not that comfortable and glasses are easier to get used to...

Your friend is fulla crap, get some nice contacts especially if you are supposed to wear the glasses all day.

I remember glasses taking a couple of days getting used to. Its more of a "how weird do I look right now" kinda issue after the 1st day.

It took my eyes like 4 hours or so to get used to contacts but the hard part is learning how to put them off/take 'em off. You'll learn by trial and error as your rip them. Plus, you have to remember to not rub your eyes so they don't end up on the top/back of your eyeball (sounds worse than it is).

It used to take me 15 min putting them on, takes a minute or so now. Get the contacts and don't look back.

Actually I could really care less about the look, I just feel weird looking through something to view something clearly - It's just a weird feel to it... and well yea, with the contacts I am definitely going to get them, but I am just hoping that they feel comfortable and yes they are for wearing it all the time... and as far as learning how to put them on and take 'em off, they do teach you the first time when you get 'em, after that you're right, it's more going to be trial and error...

I have contacts, and to me they only feel weird a few minutes after I put them in, and then I'm fine. But I'm sure the various brands of contacts differ.

Well I got astigmatism so as I understand it my contacts are going to be a little different than the norm, but I just hope the feel is not that bad... the thing is, I don't want to feel that their is a foreign subject in my eye while I'm wearing contacts..

I got contacts 4 days ago..

It's hard at first, and for the first few minutes of wearing them it feels weird, but afterwards its just second-nature. First time I went opticians I couldn't wear them after trying for one hour :oldlol: . Went second time, after 30 minutes, got them on. So yeah, don't be intimidated by it. They are MUCH better than glasses. You do not want to get used to glasses, I've been wearing them for 5 years now, it feels weird with contacts, but hopefully the feeling goes away.

Hope I could help.

I have astigmatism. It isn't a big deal and is very common. This is what you should know.

-The contacts won't be any different.

-When you first get them, there will be a dude there to help you and teach you how to put them on and take them off.

-At first, it took me 45 minutes to put them on and take them off by myself.

-You could probebly do it in less time because I am a retard.

-They do not feel weird, I understand you would think that because it's touching your eye, but it is so soft, and flexible that it literally has no effect on you. The first day you will feel a miniscule feeling on your eyes, like 5 little atoms are pushing your eyes, you get what I mean? Really small fealing.

-About 1-4 days later, your time to put them on and off will reduce immensly and you will not feel anything anymore

-It takes me about 10 secounds to put them on now.

-Plus you can sleep with them!

Also, wearing glasses for a long period of time makes your eyes squint naturally. It can leave the effect on you forever.

Seriously, this aint no joke. I wear contacts now though.

But I can't wear my contacts for more than 10 hrs before they really start to bother me.

And playing basketball in glasses sucks. have no court vision at all.

Probebly the only flaw with contacts, they end up drying up if you were them the whole day. Sometimes you just blink and it gets fixed up. But sometimes you gotta hold up the dry-ness. But considering the ups and downs of glasses and contacts, contacts are the ONLY way to go.

I don't get why people ask these kinds of questions here. Ask your optometrist.

I don't mean just you, either, it's like when people come on and expect that this forum is chock full of MDs that can give them advice when they have leukemia. See a f*ckin' doctor!

I don't wear the glasses anymore because I felt uncomfortable in them . I've been wearing contacts for 7 years now and I don't have any problems with them. You can't even tell they are in.

The first time you put them in they are really annoying but that's standard procedure. You're eyes get use to them in about a week.

yea, i know it's common, but I know for a fact that the contacts are different in how they are made, of course I wouldn't know the feeling...

It's different when you ask on a forum how does cancer feel like as oppose to how long does it take to get used to glasses - the fact is many people wear glasses and I rather ask people who have been through it and know how it feels in glasses...

but yea, you guys have been a lot of help and the overwhelming majority (everybody) says to get contacts, so I guess imma get contacts by next week...

i've had both and they don't feel any different. the only difference is the shape of the astigmatism ones is more of an oval while the regular ones are a circle. other than that and the price, they are no different.

I got contacts before I ever got glasses, which is almost unheard of, at least around here. I didn't get glasses until 10+ years after my first pair of contacts, and only because I had an eye infection and couldn't wear the contacts. I still only wear my glasses at night.

I'll never forget the first time I put in contacts. I remember the car ride home was amazing. After spending the first 10 or so years of my life being told my vision was "borderline" and they wanted to see if my eyes would get stronger, I was astounded that people could actually see this well, regularly, without contacts.

It was an amazing experience. I can only imagine what its like for those rare individuals that are born blind and then able to have their vision fixed so they can see. Obviously its life changing.

Anyways, regarding your question, in a way, I never got used to glasses. To this day I hate wearing them. I look in the mirror and see that I look like a different person, a person that isn't me.

Maybe that's vanity, but I will always wear my contacts before I ever put on my glasses.

In fact, in the next 5 years, I hope to have eye surgery and have my vision corrected permanently.

That is the most true post ever. The bold is exactly how I felt. Anyways, I'm getting laser-eye surgery too, I don't think it's too expensive compared to other ones. At least not here in Toronto.

3 minutes.

I just bought my first pair of prescription eyeglasses yesterday.

I'll just remove it when I play basketball, go to the swimming pool, or when I am making love with my gf.

Contacts were way easier for me to get used to than glasses. It takes a week or so to get used to putting them in or taking them out, but beyond that, I can't feel the contacts on my eyes even if I try. Glasses distort your vision and it adds something to your face that you will touch a lot. I rarely wear my glasses, and when I do, I'm almost always aware that they are on my face.

For me the best is contacts during the day, glasses around the house or for breaks from the contacts.

My eyes aren't very watery so contacts do get uncomfortable for long periods (s in 10+ hours), especially if looking at a computer screen all day even though they keep making em more and more breathable. But on the other hand contacts are just better, you can see in the periphery, not worried they're gonna fall off when you're being physically active, never scratched/fogging up/sweaty. Some days I'll wear just glasses and it usually puts me in a funk, makes me feel lazy all day.

Some people who have waterier eyes though can wear contacts with no problem ever. It's not advised but I know people who never take them out, even sleeping, and don't have any problems

Your friend is lying to you. Get yourself some nice contacts. They're way more convenient than glasses. I had glasses for like 4 months and never found them comfortable. I also had to take them off when I played ball so they weren't worth it. Buy contacts. They cost less and will make your life easier.

Edit: I still use my glasses every day but only when I'm at home. Whenever I go out I just put my contacts on. So those glasses might come in handy.

Your friend is a big *****...I have worn contacts since I was 15 and never once felt uncomfy,....only if you get stuff caught in it, otherwise I dont even notice.

Try them out at least, your eye doctor will give you free samples to see how you like it. At first you will have a hard time putting fingers to your eyes but over time you wont flinch at all.

Go with contacts if you dont like glasses.

When I first put on glasses, I was so amazed at how much of the world I was missing. Colors were brighter. Faces were no longer fuzzy. I could read the blackboard at school. It was a whole new world ! :D

I don't recall having much of an adjustment period. If they bother you that much, glasses may not be for you. But don't give up entirely. It may also be the frames. Did you feel uncomfortable even when wearing other frames?

As far as contacts. Contacts are not universally uncomfortable. Some like them, others don't. All preference. I felt no discomfort from wearing them, but when I put them on it burned the HELL out of my eyes. And I just didn't like putting them in. So, contacts weren't really for me. However, maybe a different brand wouldn't have been so bad. I'll try them again in the future at some point.

In the end, you just have to try different things. You'll eventually find something that suits you, whether it's different glasses or contacts. It can be a tedious process, but better that than being stuck with glasses or contacts that you don't like.

I tried contacts once. I didn't really mind them, but I found my eyes would get sore if I was on the computer too long. I ended up just sticking with glasses, I'm plenty comfortable with them at this point.

Contacts > glasses. Wouldn't mind getting laser surgery eventually. Probably once I finish school.

I started with contacts in 9th grade, refusing to wear glasses. Switched over to glasses in college, got sick of having something in my eyes all the time. I don't care how breathable they say they are, having a piece of plastic over your eyeball all day ain't natural.

I use contacts for sports, but other than that glasses all day.
