An article is written by MyDaily Paper in Korea and I translated it.
[MyDaily = Reporter Kang Ji Hoon]
'The Pioneer Leader of Post Jordan' LeBron James (Cleveland) visited Korea to participate in 'Vita500 World Basketball Challenge 2006 and to meet with his fans.
On August 12th, James was at 'LeBron James Court' donating event in Whee-mun High School of Samsung-dong in Seoul. "I'm happy to see that the students are very pleased," said James. He greeted the fans by saying that he hopes that the students gain inspiration through basketball.
Furthermore, he mentioned that "Basketball is the world's greatest sports. I hope that the teenagers will attempt to play and learn the passion from me. Moreover, I find worth living by giving it out to the community. I know very much about the life of high school students, because I recently have graduated not too long ago. I wanted to give the opportunities for them to play basketball." Thus the reason why he donated a basketball court to Whee-mun High School
Last season, James averaged 31.4 points per game. It was a surprising stats for NBA 3-years new-coming player, but he had given the title of best scoring player to Kobe Bryant (LA Lakers), whom averaged 35.4 points per game. They're the rivals whom will meet at the superior levels for years to come.
James said "Kobe has the scoring powers and wills to score anywhere on the court. Since both Kobe and I have the wills to win, it's very fun to play games with him. But I'm inherited to lead and also born with the leadership. That is my greatest advantage compared to Kobe."
James said he respects Michael Jordan the most. "Since my childhood, I respected Jordan and he is the player that everyone has to love," said James. At press conference in Coex Intercontinental Hotel on the 12th, James said "I feel overflowing just being compared to great player like Jordan."
James participated as a member of the "Dream Team" in Athens Olympic of 2004, but Team USA have only scored a bronze model. Regarding this statement, he said "I was a rookie at that time and had no experience. But for this event, the wills to win are superior. Fellow players such as Dwayne Wade and Carmelo Anthony are also full with passions."
At 'LeBron James Court' donating event, Team USA members, Joe Johnson (Atlanta) and Chris Paul (New Orleans) have participated too. James and Paul created a fantastic slam dunk to give a wonderful and unforgettable memories to Korean fans.

He's such a tool. A leader who keeps biting his nails and waves some pseudo tough rap sign because he likes Jay Z... The kid is like 12 in his head and he talks about leadership? Man, when he had to pick between the brains and the muscles, he sure didn't make a reasonable choice.

I wish people would stop calling him King James. He should be Prince James until he matures a little.

I think there's general consensus among NBA players that Kobe's not a good leader. James just did confirm it.
And James is premature? Come on, I've never heard or read anything about LeBron having problems with his teammates or coaches in the past and present. It's Kobe who has been having beefs with everyone around him.
LeBron >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Kobe both on and off the floor. I'm glad that LeBron is man enough to say that. You know, anyone who says negative things on Kobe gets criticized by the press and his fans nowadays.

Its obvious he was asked about Kobe Bryant and while he implies Kobe is the better scorer, he is a better leader. How is that a jab? You're lookin into it more than you should. Much like how the media operates to start drama and controversy.
Not Bron James job? Then maybe he shouldnt do interviews anymore giving you nothing on his views on the game of basketball and his peers. People complain when MJ doesnt give his thoughts on the game and its players especially from the past. Always taking the easy way out. Now we're upset someone is stating the obvious?
Bron has always been said to be more of a leader than Kobe by media and analysts.

I don't think that was a jab. It's not like LeBron just said that Kobe's a horrible teammate to have. He just said he feels he's a better leader than Kobe(what everyone in the NBA could easily agree).

Damn, I smell hate. Anyway, it's the absolute truth. If you look at Kobe his first couple of years he was very immature on the court. He spoke well and you could say he was more articulate than James. But Lebron was ready at 18 and what he is saying if he said this, is one advantage he had coming into this league was that he is a natural leader and that is to his advantage and really not only over Kobe but over other players of his generation who have talent but no leadership qualities. James may be miffed about Kobe's no show for team USA and really the messed up way Kobe played it. I personally was looking forward to seeing Kobe with this team. I also think Lebron is much smarter than his diction would indicate.

For real. These groupies are going to lose their minds over this. They'll hate Bron even more than they already do.
It's funny how when Bron says something positive about Kobe, they take it as the gospel, but this will be looked at as blasphemy of the highest order.

Kobe is not a good leader period, so Lebron saying that's his big advantage over Kobe isn't really patting his own back. When Lebron was headed toward the NBA everyone thought he was going to be cocky and arrogant but he has surprised everyone by being somewhat humble, likeable, and down to earth. Everything that Kobe isn't. But Kobe was a monster at defense at Lebron's age, I noticed that Bron left that part out when speaking of advantages. :D

1. When teammates mess up kobe let's them know about it.
2. When teammates Play good kobe let's them know about it.
3. He invites teammates like Ronny Turiaf and Bynum to work out with him during the summer to get them better.
4. He took Turiaf and Smush to allstar weekend and Turiaf was with him the whole time.
5. He leads by example (HATERS)
Now that I think of it Lebron was just saying he is a natural leader and kobe had to grow as one.

Simple fact of the matter is that they have both been the leader of their team for two years.
for Kobe as soon as Diesel left, and for Bron first game of his sophmore year (rookies never lead).
right now LeBron is a better leader, and took HIS team (previous LAL teams werent Kobe's, they were Shaq's) further than Kobe took his...end of story, LeBron was speaking the truth.

Well that may have been the case when Shaq was the leader and people took less money to come to the Lakers but now???.... There is a reason Smush Parker is the starting PG for the Lakers, nobody else wants to be there.
The only thing Kobe has proven is that he can score a lot of points if he takes a lot of shots. Since Shaq left they have been a lottery team and a barely 7th seed.

I don't know if you watch basketball or not put the pistons team Lebron faced was no where near as good as Larry Brown's pistons I sorry buddy roster check
Pg. Billups/James/Hunter
Sg. Hamiliton/James/S.Parker
Sf. Prince/Willamson/
Pf. Wallace/Okur
C. Wallace/Okur/Milicic
Extremely deep with Memhet Okur and Mike James off the bench plus they were hungry lebron faced a waterdowned flip sauders piston. don't compare that please.
excuses are like as$holes, we all have one, know one, and can smell them from a far. Why cant you Kobe lovers accept the fact that your favorite player is good but not the best at everything? WHY?WHY?WHY?
  You don't really believe people want to play for the Lakers do you? Well that may have been the case when Shaq was the leader and people took less money to come to the Lakers but now???.... There is a reason Smush Parker is the starting PG for the Lakers, nobody else wants to be there.
The only thing Kobe has proven is that he can score a lot of points if he takes a lot of shots. Since Shaq left they have been a lottery team and a barely 7th seed.
You're a freakin idiot, you know that?

Hey, Knoe, let's make a bet. I'm sure you're man enough to take this bet. Lets see you not post about Kobe for two weeks. Lets see you talk ball for two straight weeks.
You know what? To be fair, I'll do the same, for the next two weeks my posts will be on basketball only and no ot's and no humor just pure basketball knowledge.
Are you a bytch? Or are you gonna take it? Don't bytch out.
First of all, I'm not here to amuse you, I'm here to amuse myself. Therefore, 5th grade level tests of "manhood" like "if you don't take this bet you're a bytch" don't interest me.
Second of all, the bet implies that I don't talk about other aspects of basketball, which is plain false. I'll challenge you to find the last Kobe thread I made. I can't even remember the last time I started one going back to the regular season. If you want to pretend that I'm equal to groupies starting posts like "Yeah, stupid question but who's the most clutch in the NBA" style Bryant lovefests, then that's on you. Your schtick is poor humor, poor attempts at being a film critic, and poor basketball commentary. Oh, and poor sportsmanship towards the Heat. And no matter how lame I think it is, I don't care enough about you to try to flame you and derail a thread into off subject madness.
So I'll challenge YOU to debate me on the issue, whatever it is be it Kobe, or other parts of basketball and stay on subject and if you disagree with me state it with detailed reasoning and avoid any flamewar garbage. And I'll do the same with you, regardless of how wrong you're sure to be.
Are you going to accept or bytch out? Don't bytch out

If you were to ask a "kobe groupie" to stop talking about Kobe, and they didn't, couldn't, wouldn't have it, that would prove that they were a groupie, right?

Personally, I don't believe the Bulls are contenders. Wallace is on the decline and his lack of offensive prowess was glaring in the playoffs last year. What happens when teams in the playoffs once again pull the "Hack a Ben" technique? What happens when they need a key post score? He will improve the squad, but their lack of experience along with Ben's deficiencies in scoring will come back to haunt them.
I am looking forward to seeing what the Bulls look like next year, and am looking forward to seeing them play with Ben, but a title is not in the picture for them yet.

The thing about the Dallas Mavericks is that they are not men, they are boys out there when it comes time to winning a championship. When the other team plays great hard nosed defense and offense, the Mavericks giggle like little girls and play the series as if it was a flop-a-thon.
Dallas may be a contender during the regular season, and they may luck out against the Spurs once every decade in the playoffs, but when it comes time to actually winning it all, they go back to their pretender ways.
They don't have the mindset, they don't have the passion, and they don't have the heart.

I don't think Bron was taking a jab. Not at all. He was asked a question, and he didn't respond in a condescending manner. He clearly states Kobe is a better scorer than him. And that is by all means, blatantly obvious. Just as it is obvious, that LeBron James is a more innate and natural leader than Kobe. LeBron can relate to people. He is humurous. LeBron plays good cop / bad cop. Which is for the most part, the most effective way to be a leader. He doesn't berate his teammates on the sideline, like you'd see Kobe do to Sasha. Sometimes for people who are the best at what they do (Kobe) it his hard to translate that to people not on your level. Jordan had the same problem for YEARS. It wasn't until he was able to mentor Pippen, who was closest to his level, but Pippen was a better leader than Jordan. So Pippen spread the leadership down to the rest of the Bulls. Like a trickle down effect. And this is why Jordan's relationship was so strong with Pippen in the second three-peat. They had a mutual understanding.
To be a good leader, you can't JUST give negative reinforcment. Which Kobe tends to do, because it is frusterating for him to deal with his teammates. LeBron gives both, positive and negative reinforcement. Which is the best way to go. So yes, in all, or as of right now ... LeBron is a better leader.

At first when I read thi thread, I was think that it was pretty immature for LeBron to say something like that about Kobe. No matter how true it is (and it is true, obviously), it still isn't the right thing to do in that situation, and calling out another players weakness in the media is just stupid. But then I thoughy, if LeBron was asked a question like "What is your biggest advantage over Kobe Bryant" or "How do you compare to Kobe Bryant", then there's really no other way to answer it. He didn't come off as arrogant, because he admitted something about himself, as well as stating something "negative about Kobe. In the end, I really don't think he could have said anything less offensive, and when you're put on the spot like that, it's hard. So IMO, it wasn't an immature thing that LeBron did.
That is, if this article is even true. Where's this damn source?

If Kobe is such a great leader, how come he can't take a team to the playoffs unless he has Phil Jackson to get his teammates ass in gear? Kobe isn't a leader, this has been proven time and time again, in fact he's so much of a non-leader that it's laughable. The guy does not relate with people, he has a fraudulent, contrived personality, and he has proven that unless he has a LEADER on his team (Shaq, Phil) he is going NOWHERE. How anybody can find James statement objectionable is a mystery to me.
Matures? He is mature and just stated what most think.
Exactly. For some reason people get all offended when celebrities say things we've all thought. Like they don't have the right to answer a reporter's question honestly.
Frankly, I don't think Lebron actually said that. Mainly because he has a media coach and has not said one single solitary honest opinion of his since he entered the league; why would he start now? He's almost as fake with the media as Kobe is. I can't see him being this candid.

He took shots at kobe the whole tourney. It doesnt matter if its true, it doesnt need to be said. Its an immature comment. MAybe he should spend less time worrying about himself in comparison to kobe and work on his jumper. Like it or not Kobe is one of the 20-40 greatest players ever. Lebron will get there barring injury but he needs to show him some respect, and LEbron this summer did not do it.

I can't blame LeBron for not being humble (other than it kind of works against his argument of being a good leader). He's 21, dominating the league, making more money than the past three or four generations of his family have made combined, getting chicks left and right no doubt, parties, shoe contracts, free shwag. You name it, this kid's had it thrown at him because of his game. Of course he's going to have an inflated ego and say things that make him sound like he has a superiority complex. If I had to bet, I'd say he's probably a complete douche to be around.
He's still hella fun to watch on the court though.

Frankly, I don't think Lebron actually said that. Mainly because he has a media coach and has not said one single solitary honest opinion of his since he entered the league; why would he start now? He's almost as fake with the media as Kobe is. I can't see him being this candid.
Lebron is a better leader than Kobe which is blatantly true to anybody but the most fearsome Kobe lovers. But I can easily see Lebron slipping up and being candid with the media. He is not as guarded with the media compared to a Kobe Bryant or a Tiger Woods, nor does he possess the ability to pick and choose his words as carefully as them. The reason is simply that he's not that bright. With an average intelligence at best, he pales in comparison to Kobe's smarts and articulation.

LeBron is a better leader.
very good post ! I'm impressed. Not that you're a bad poster, but it's because you have Kobe as your avatar. I couldn't have phrased it better.

James and Paul created a fantastic slam dunk to give a wonderful and unforgettable memories to Korean fans

I hate how every god damn interview Lebron has to say he's a leader. Like he's trying to convince his damn self. Then to say he's a better leader than Kobe? Does he have some proof or something?
This guys great, but he gets on my ****ing nerves

Did any other young players compare themselves like that to older players. I dont think Jordan went around calling out MAgic Johnson or LArry Bird or Bernard King.
AI never called out Jordan or D-Rob.
But LEbron gets a free pass for calling out a future hall of famer??????
What if Kobe said " my biggest advantage on LArry Bird is my defense" ITs true but who cares. LArry was still better.
Real players let history tell their story and make their legacy. The dont go around trying to set up quotes to make themselves out to be something that they arent. If you wanna see a natural leader look at avery johnson or Mark Jackson, they were born to lead.

Amen. Sam Cassell is a natural leader too. His argument is even dumber now as they lost to Greece, where was his leadership in that game?

Lebron is not as intelligent as Kobe?says who? you make too many assumptions. Lebron has as much education as Kobe Bryant which is a high school diploma. Another thing if Kobe as intelligent and media savvy as you think he is he would not have snitched on Shaq to the cops, talked to the cops without a lawyer, took Karl Malone thing public, built the phony image of being a faithful husband when he was cheating all along.
Lebron is leaps and bounds ahead of Kobe in the common sense department.

Intelligence is different from a diploma. I know plenty of dumb asses with diplomas. That doesn't make you intelligent. You would be the idiot, if you believed that it was actually like that. Intelligence has nothing to do with the matter you are bringing up. Everyone feels pressure from police officers, and sticky situations. That doesn't mean he lacks intelligence. Kobe had pretty damn good SAT scores. He knows three different languages, etc. Kobe is 10x more articulate, etc. But please, don't act like Bron hasn't F'ed up as well. Taking an H2 and jerseys, while strictly being watched as a high school senior? Bron has made his mistakes in the "common sense" department, just like we all have. That doesn't negate the fact that Kobe still comes across as being more intelligent.

I dont see it as Lebron taking a shot at Kobe. But at the same time its not the same thing as saying you have shooting or defending as an advantage over someone. Leadership is a personality trait and speaks to someone's character. Its not saying you can put a ball in a hoop more accurately than someone, which says nothing about the person as a human being, and is trivial. It is claiming somewhat of a superiority in character. Whether its true or not is inconsequential, neither is whether Bron meant it as a jab (which I dont think he did). It was simply unnecessary, and acts as a jab even though it wasnt intended as one.
I also think it says a little about Lebron, that he could denigrate Kobe's character so casually and not think about the implications of it. Which do exist, as otherwise this thread wouldnt have two sides to it. Its a little self-centered imo. So I guess what i'm trying to say is Lebron wasnt trying to cheapshot Kobe but he shouldn't have said it anyway.

first off, lebron said "Greatest" advantage.. meaning he has multiple advantages over kobe, which is simply not the case.
defensively, kobe dominates lebron.
the only thing that lebron has over bean on offense is his passing ability, which isnt even that big of an advantage. kobe is underrated like crazy when it comes to involving teammates. take a look at the dynasty , for example. kobe led the dynasty in assists. and how about the first 4 games of suns series? kobe looked like magic out there.
lebron is young.. very young. and he has 2 bronze medals. (nice leadership :applause: )
he needs to hold his tongue and wisen up before he speaks out against his elders... especially if that elder is an all time great.

But sure, change your avatar. If its that big a deal to you. Personally I dont see why anyone should care whether someone else in a community of thousands has the same avatar. Seems trivial. But to each his own.

Have we really gotten to the point where you can't even be honest and speak the truth without people getting upset ? He is a better leader than Kobe, everyone knows this including the Kobe fans, so what is the problem ?
Mainly because he's only 3 years in the league, he shouldn't talk about veterans like that even if it's true. I don't even think anybody should question another's game in the NBA though. It's alright if it's about on the court issues like Kobe and Raja Bell, but it's ridiculous for him to talk like that about his leadership skills and how he's better. I couldn't imagine Wade saying, I'm better than Bron because I have a championship unless they were simply joking with one another. Did he laugh? I don't know. Lebron could get 7 rings and he still shouldn't say he's better than this dude because of this reason.

The issue is not Lebron being a better leader than Kobe. The issue is Bron's immaturity, not in comparison to Kobe but as a person in his own right.
Bron is trying to put Kobe down this entire summer. I dont think he wants Kobe on the Olympic team to tell you the truth. Because next 2 summers when they win gold Kobe will get the bulk of the credit and will prob be captain along with maybe billups.

Somebody asked Bron a question, he answered...Nobody cares enough about kobe to spend alot of time trying to keep him off the USA team... bunch of nonsense...
Stop taking everything so damn personal....Kobe is not a leader...this is not new knowledge, nor is it an insult

Than is ok if someone say "Kobe whats you biggest advantage on Lebron"
Kobe says" well i actually play both sides of the ball, he doesnt try to play defense and thats half of the game, also i shoot it a lot better and am better in the clutch"
Its all true but doesnt need to be said.
Everything lebron says is pretty much filtered through a media coach.
Him saying "I dont know if Kobe would fit"= thought out statement
Him saying he is a better leaser = thought out statement
He is trying to shape the media's viewof himself. Just as wade calls himself a team player, humble and unselfish like 4 times an interview.

You take one man's comments waay too personal.... Who are you to say what Lebron should and shouldnt say?
You have this complex protocol of what players should and shouldnt say..why? Because Bron may hurt kobe's feelings? Hurt his fans feelings?

if in the early 1990s john stockton had made a comment like that about say tim hardaway, would people flip out about it? stockton was a better leader than timmy, but timmy was a better scorer and clutch city. would timmy be insulted to hear it? i think this is being blown out of proportion. the common (media) perception has been that bron leads his teammates while kobe carries his. whether it's true or not probably doesn't matter, and unless someone has played with the lakers and cavs in the last couple of years, it probably isn't really answerable, but basically all bron did was give the answer that most sportswriters would have delivered (right or wrong - it's perception).

bottom line is, it was unintentional and not malicious but it was a shot nonetheless, and Lebron should have known not to say it. Maybe as he gets older and matures he'll start getting better at knowing what to say and how to say it.

Kobe is better so who cares.
Anyways, there was also an article where Kobe talked about how Team USA needs more chemistry, so will Kobe fans pick on that too? I looks like a shot a the leaderships skills of the tri-captains, but who cares, you know what i'm saying?.

Attitude reflect leadership.
I don't see either one of those teams playing with the right attitude. I certainly don't wanna see my leader bite his finger nails when ever he gets a chance to do it. That, to me, shows he's nervous.
If my leader is nervous, rest of the team will follow.

I don't think Bron's biting of his nails in a sign of nervousness. Seems more like a bad habit considering he bites his nails from start to finish of games.

I use to bite my nails a lot. It was a habbit, but I only bit them when I got in a situation were I was nervous.
I think Bron is the same way. Anyways, it doesn't mater if it's a habbit or a nervous thing, he still does it. If I was looking at my leader biting his nails, that would come across to me as him being nervous.
But whatever.
