I just cracked a joke in another thread about it but seriously, what is the worth of an NBA ring?
Obviously, there's a great deal of sentimental value to it but besides that, just technical stuff, karats and all, how valuable is it?

15k, I believe.

More info:

3. Prizes: Each Official Winner (defined below), after appropriate verification, shall receive one (1) genuine San Antonio Spurs 2005 NBA Championship Ring (the "Prize") that will be the same size, make, and model as those awarded to the Spurs' players. The name of each Official Winner shall be engraved on their respective Prize within fourteen to twenty-one (14-21) business days after it is awarded. Each Prize awarded shall be a male version of the Spurs' Championship ring. The approximate appraised value of each Prize, based on its estimated retail value, is $15,000.00. No substitution of the Prize may be made, and Prizes are non-refundable, are not subject to exchange, and may not be exchanged for cash. Official Winners will be responsible for payment of all federal, state, and local taxes.

Of course if it was a superstar's ring (ala MJ, Kobe, Shaq, TD) it'd be worth more than someone who rode the pine throughout the Finals.

^Ring raffle I was referring to.

The Lakers 1st one with Shaq and Kobe about $7500

CHAMPIONSHIP CELEBRATION: The Los Angeles Lakers' guard Kobe Bryant (1) and MVP center Shaquille O'Neal admire their NBA championship rings during pre-game ceremonies of their home opener in Los Angeles. Following the 15-minute ring ceremony, the Lakers, who won the team's first title since 1988 last June by beating Indiana in the finals, watched their seventh championship banner being added to the Staples Center wall as We Are The Champions played.

Each ring cost about $7,500 and is engraved with the words "Bling-Bling," Shaq's description of the glitter of a championship ring's diamonds.

Maaan, how is the Spurs ring worth more than the Lakers ring? :( :banghead:

LOL.

Anyway, it's a lot cheaper than I expected, honestly.
I mean, 7k, even 15k...yeah it's a lot but not exactly outrageous or anything.

I mean, Kobe bought his wifey a 4 million dollar ring so compared to that, the NBA rings looks like some kids science fair project or something.

I'd expect it to be at least like 50k.

Thats one of the reasons why players want to win championships. in case they go broke after retirement, they have something to fall back on.

Yeah well, realistically if you were going to sell one, I think you could cover 2, maybe 3 yearly salaries. That is average middle class salaries, I think.
Certainly great for someone in dire need of cash.

But how stupid one would need to be to go broke after the career in the NBA?
I cannot even imagine.

Do you know if it was chewed when he was a kid? Because then it would be considered an antique.

Really? Figured it would be more than that. I know Superbowl rings cost upwards of $30,000.

Rings are so ****ing nice.. plus they give the players a sense of accomplishment for playing and going to practices all year... also it gives them a big pride for being nba champs.

Its probably worth around 15-16k

I only went by the Spurs raffle information, it could be higher.. but I know that there's people that would buy one for upwards of $50k, no matter how much it's 'worth'.

Hopefully most NBA players wouldn't be stupid enough to get in debt in the first place. Yes I guess it's some sort of cushion to fall back on by selling it, but I would hate to have to do it.

Sentimental value

On eBay I think it can go to $700,000 easy depending on whose ring it is.

Jordan's 1998 ring should gather $10 million+ easy.
