Yup, I'll be getting it the day it hits shelves. I have been a Live guy since Live '95. Yes, they had their ups and downs, but I think the only 2K game that was better than EA's was the original NBA 2K. Other than that, I haven't really been impressed with either series until Live '06. If you don't adjust sliders, or take away the superstar feature, then your not going to like the game, but if you mess around with all that stuff, the game becomes much more fun.

Can't wait till the end of Sept to pick this one up.

It looks a bit interesting to be honest. But still impossible to get a "feel" for the game by watching videos. It's going to take a whole lot for me to switch out of 2K6. I only switched out of 2K5 because of the shot stick. Unless there are major changes, I will never get another basketball game. I'll wait for the ratings.

To those of you eyeing the Live bandwagon, come sniff the hay that the 2k series has to offer. It is simply better than Live these days. Speaking from an unbiased standpoint here, the people who I know that like Live more tell me they prefer it because it is Live, a brandname they are used to.

As for 2k7, I won't purchase it for awhile because I'll be in university and won't even be bringing my PS2 with me until around thanksgiving or something.

I have been playing live from 95 until 2003.

I remember I switched to 2k round 2003 coz whenever dirk was shooting a 3, live would make a missile sound. And there was a comet tail whenver there was a shotblock made.

On live you could play zone using shawn bradley and block players up until the 3 pt line. There was no drag and momentum on player movement.

Well I hate to defend live, but that's wrong. The moves on the Analog stick was first done in NBA Live 2003 and 2K series COPIED Live

No, I meant like, say in 2k you want to go behind your back, you have do a semi circle motion from the side of the hand with the ball to the other side. Live had it where you just pressed a direction on the analog stick and you'd cross over to that side, or pull back on the analog stick and do a step back move. In 2k, you actually have moves that require skill to pull off in the right situations.

And Live certainly never had the shot stick, the greatest addition to basketball video games ever.

Both of them have analog moves. And gameplay is more important than features. NBA 2k gameplay is the most realistic, and I have a lot more fun playing it against my friends.

It would be cool if games bought out "classic" titles updated. I'd love to play Bulls versus Blazers how the current games are formatted. So basically just the same , but old players and all the extras like dynasty etc.

I played 2k5 for about a week on the PS2 while I was in China last summer and played 2k6 on the xbox360 for half a week this year.

Question for 2k fans, why do you CARE?

1.) Live is for PC, 2k isn't. So take out the people without consoles from playing 2k.
2.) PC is infinitely better, so take out people who enjoy better graphics on the PC, and the ability of PC games to always keep updated and get new player made content from playing 2k.
3.) Graphics. This year (06), live's graphics on the 360 is considered the best of sports game made, EVER.
4.) People who enjoy a fast paced game for relaxation. I don't play 48 min games, I don't wanna see scores of 10 to 10 when I play only 8 mins.

Now another question for 2k fans, how many has actually played live 07, and why would you dismiss a game from the start? Now even though I said 2k games suck, I'm still going to try 2k7 and hope for an improvement. But why the *** should I not try live. Why the hell should anyone care?

Well I have Live and you can change the sliders to make it more realistic. It's a matter of preference. Some people might like to play Live for the All star weekend feature and sick graphics and some might play 2k because of the 24/7 ebc mode. I like both games actually. They should unite both games to make NBA Live 2k7...wouldn't it be sweet?

Honestly, the 2K series has fallen off a little bit. It's still better than Live, though. Live '05 wasn't terrible. It had some problems, but it wasn't terrible. Live '06 was really bad, though (as was '03, '02, and '01).

I was talking about tendencies really, Live will have them for the first time this year, while 2k will be on their second version of it, and 3rd version that the developers have worked on. Tendencies, you know, the sliders that each individual player gets in 2k, that dictates what their game is? 2k7 has 16 sliders, and 20-30 tendency ratings that govern how a player plays the game, what they like to do etc.

I personally think people buy a lot of EA games out of tradition more than anything else. They are just used to the game, and dont really care if there's an actual better product. Because, from like 1997 to 2003 Live was absolutely horrible and it sold well. But then again, it might be changing as the 2k series inches closer and closer in sales to Live, and 2k6 even outsold Live 06 on Xbox 360.

describe NBA Live's strengths:

1.) Its for PC, which like I said allows you to download fan made content. Dunk packs, fully customized arenas, shoes, jerseys. Also allows you to play legendary teams (Showtime lakers, Larry legend's Celtics etc). Basically live on the PC is easily modded by people with good computer skills, who can make cyberfaces etc so that you can play retired players from the past or completely outragous players. I'm currently playing with the houstons that had Barkley, Drexler and Hakeem. Hakeem OWNS.
2.) Its pace is faster. Some of the moves looks unrealistic, but you do see NBA players doing those moves. They don't do it as frequently, obviously, but when you play games for only 2 min quarters you don't want to see players just shoot set jump shots all game.
3.) Dunk Contest. Personally I've only played the dunk competition 2 or 3 times, but the first few times is always fun.
4.) Graphics. This is only noticable on the 360 or a high end PC, but mostly the 360. On the PS2 or XBox both games look like crap.
4.) Superstar moves. Alot of people hate it, but its damn fun. I personally don't like outside scorer or high flyer but I love playmaker and inside scorer. Perimeter defender is the only move that is easily abused becuase you can get so many steals.

And this is only 06, which I consider one of the worst versions of live ever made.

I can dominate with Marko Jaric in NBA 2k6. All basketball games are unrealistic today. Who cares? Is it realistic that teams can shoot 80% in NBA 2K6? Not really. Oh man I HATE the defensive rebounding of Live. It is by far the biggest flaw in the game. When I'm up one with 3 seconds left and the other team has one free throw, I actually HOPE THEY MAKE IT because if they miss 60% of the time they'll get the rebound and get a putback.

The reason we play Live is because of 2 reasons:

1. It's a video game. If I want to play basketball, I'll go outside and do so. I'm playing a video game I want it to be fun, it doesn't have to be super realistic.

2. I don't have a console, Live makes games for PSP and PC.

2k is a better game but I honestly don't care. Live is more fun. There are some flaws. Like freestyle superstar is way too effective. But when you're playing with other people it's a more fun game. Sure it isn't realistic. But tons of offensive boards and steals are fun. That's what it's all about for me.

The problem with Live's rebounding is actually too much flying across the court and that bigger playes always win the battle for positions. KG and Howard like their real life counter parts owns the boards, but guys without that much athletism and size, like Reggie Evans always lose the battle for the rebound. Guys with only size, or only athletism (Yao, TD, Marion), become merely average rebounders. My biggest problem is when the ball hits rim and then hits the ground with no one around it. The physics of that is pretty messed up and pretty random.

I would really like the "tip the ball back into the air"thing though, that would make it alot better for players like Yao.

Use the guy thats supposed to be boxing out the shooter, hold L1 and just box out. And if gameplay isnt realistic enough, put it on superstar setting and adjust the sliders. On 8 minute quarters, the scores are usually close and the games are usually 100-92 with me winning. You just gotta put the mid range long range and inside scoring sliders to 35 and game speed to like 40 I forgot the rest but NBA Live is fun and realistic for me.

I play PSP Live. There are no sliders and you can't edit player abilities. And that is what I do (box out get a rebound). It's the only way I ever get rebounds on FTs. But if they bounce away from the player I'm controlling, it's an offensive board.

Anyways I have been a NBA Live fan for quite some time and I guess I never thought about it but it could be the comfort factor the EA brand name I have loved the Tiger Woods games and The Madden games so I guess I felt that the game play would be good on the NBA Live series as well and to be honest I have never been impressed with the graphics on the commercials for the 2K series but with people defending each with such conviction I just might have to pick up a copy of 2k6 since I have live06. The bad news: In playing a version of Live marked 90% complete, the gameplay was terribly disappointing. The ball physics are all over the place, even the most simple shots appear awkward, and to be honest, the game seems years behind the build of NBA 2K7 that we already have in the office.

live is gonna suck like like 4 or 5. 2k is and will be the better game until they redo their entire gameplay engine, its just to simplistic and not real enough. I like being able to play serious if i want and turn it into a chess game. But i will buy live because a lot of my friends at school like it. '

Just checked out 2k's videos (for 360). I like the movements of the players up and down the court, very smooth movements, but good god their models suck. Nash looks like hes 300 pounds. Everyone looks fatter then they should be or too damn skinny.

I think the video's you watched online were compressed a bit. When formatted correctly on a tv, I'm sure it'll looking normal and the players will not appear stalky and fat.

The IGN videos were formatted wrong, they are supposed to be 4:3, instead they are widescreen, so they make the players look short and squatty. A developer for 2k7 posts at Operationsports.com and cleared it up.

EA and Live fans have too much pride. Lives graphics are garbage, the players all look short and stubby and it seriously looks like its being played on super nintendo or playstation 1, at its best. The gameplay is horrible, its basically run up the court, pop a 3 or try to dunk on someone.


Live fans, Give 2K a chance, trust me, u wont regret it. Its so much more fun when playin wit ur peeps too, more competitive and it takes more skill.

Sorry - I can't upload anything that large. It crashes my browser to do anything over 200 megs or so. I wish somebody would break it up into smaller chunks.
